Great news that this brilliant game will be brought to PlayStation players.

Gotta admit, only the first game and being digital only is a bit of a letdown.

So many great memories of this game. Hard to believe it was almost 20 years go.. I remember buying the xbox for it.. Amazing to see this on PlayStation, and hope the strange 'lifetime PS only fan boys' enjoy it.. If they're not complaining about one thing or another that is.

Surprised to see its just the first game which is a shame. Would have hoped to see the trilogy but I’ll take it. Raam on insane again will be…. fun. Never beat the Brumak on insane though as it wasn’t included in the 360 version of the game so no idea how tough that will be.

$40 for just the first one...sheesh. The inclusion of multi-player though, I think that's going to be enough to drag me back in. I haven't really been into a console multiplayer game since Mass Effect 3, so this will be fun to hop back into. My brother and I played through the first game together in co-op. Let's see if our almost 20 years older selves still got it.

I never cared about Gears of War so I likely won't be buying this. But still, it's pretty crazy to see this happen.

After seeing Sonic the Hedgehog games show up on Nintendo hardware, nothing shocks me anymore in this industry. Time moves on, things change and with Xbox getting less and less popular after the 7th gen, not really surprised. For the younger crowd, though, many who might have chose a 360 and Gears of War 1 over PS3 back in 2006, I'm sure this is a bit of a shock to the system. It's pretty much official now. Once Halo makes the move to PS, Microsoft should just give up on hardware. It is disappointing, however, even if I prefer PlayStation and Nintendo, I was a big fan of Xbox during its first two gens.

I really don't understand this being just the first game, it's a trilogy. And they are all relatively short. I'd rather see a remake of all 3 for $70 or even $80 than just the first for $50.

I was fortunate enough to play them back-to-back on Xbox One and it really did feel like 1 game. I suppose if you played all 3 as they released you might feel differently.

They've done just the first game, @rjejr, so as to milk the franchise for everything it is worth on the PlayStation. In 4 to 6 months time, we will see Gears of War 2: Remastered, and then 4 or 6 months after that, the third game.

In August 2026 or August 2027, we will be getting Gears of War: E-Day too...

Never been into Gears of War, but if they are porting older games, could you please rerelease the Fable trilogy, Microsoft?

@UltimateOtaku91 It probably being used as a test bed to help The Coalition integrate PlayStation development into their pipeline. This would basically be the studio first actual game on the platform, so it would be very helpful in providing good information for future game development…

If it lacks a platinum trophy, I'll be upset but will be forced to admit that it's hilarious.

This was rumoured a long time as a trilogy remaster, right? Seems like a remaster of a single 10 hour campaign game from 20 years ago is a bit on the light side as a complete product. The max Payne games getting a full remake treatment are even coming as a 2in1.

I thought it was going to be a collection of the 1st 3 games. Not sure if worth it, played it back then on xbx, while it was pretty fun for the time, it's basic game, especially by now.
Id prefer a full remake or new game.

Good news that Gears is finally coming to PS, but it's disappointing that it's not a collection. I played Ultimate Edition a few years ago and I was planning to play all the sequels on XB1, but once Microsoft started going multiplatform, I decided to wait for them to release a remastered collection on PS5. So I guess I'll continue waiting.

I remember this OG, and it was the first AAA 'full priced' game I ever played where I felt short changed by its duration. Approx 5 hours soup to nuts, and thats with an old slow bloke like me on the controls. Fun game, but it was the first of the sub-6 hour AAA title campaigns.

Played this back in the day on the 360, but by far the weakest of the series (If I remember correctly). So will give it a miss. Still would love Flight Sim to come to PS5 (I know, I know).

@AdamNovice Its a free upgrade for current owners of the gears of war ultimate edition, so not a good comparison. This is a much better remaster than say TLOU2 as its bringing the game to a whole new audience (playstation).

Less players on xbox consoles means less games bought via their store, less people giving them 100% profit from first party sales to 30% on playstation. Surely theres only one more console gen left for them until they become a publisher only with gamepass becoming a PC and cloud based subscription.

I was a huge Gears of War fan back in the day. I may get this at some point, but like others have said, it would've been nice to get the whole original trilogy or even the whole series. I say was because I'm pretty pissed that they decided not to finish the current trilogy's story in favor of doing a prequel instead.

So, this is like the third or fourth re-release, remaster, remake, whatever you what to call it for this game. That means it's going to get meme'd and made fun of just like The Last of Us, right?

I'm genuinely surprised they haven't ported Rare Replay yet. Seems like a no brainer and would be relatively easy and cheap to do.

I'm actually shocked that they're including the multiplayer. Usually remakes and remasters leave it out - really happy that's not the case here and it bodes well for future Xbox multiplat releases of their classics

Will pick this up at some stage to see what it's like with the haptics.

I have fond memories of this back when I was in the military playing this over a 2 person lan party in my barracks. Reviving each other fighting the big “boom” guys.

The game is cool but not sure I need to play it again. Maybe for nostalgia-sake I’ll buy it on sale.
When Halo releases, I’ll be all over that in a second. I’ve only ever played 1 and 2 so there’s a lot of content I missed out on that I’m looking forward to with that. Hoping we get the entire collection if that drops!!

@nomither6 can’t wait. This is my favorite IP in gaming, alongside Red Dead which Rockstar gives very little love to. But i will be double dipping this one on Series X and PS5. As much as i don’t care for Sony’s controller layout, i want to play it on there just to experience it cause it’s never been available before. I have been logging hours back into the PVP of Gears 5, which i have over 2,000 hour in.

Forza Horizon 5 is on PS5. But Forza Horizon 1-4 will never be. If you actually like that franchise, the only way to play them all is on Xbox.

I will get a free upgrade to Gears of War on my Xbox, rather than paying £40 to play it on my PS5. And I'll be able to play the rest of the entire franchise.

I actually am hopeful of Sunset Overdrive getting remade for PS5 and Series X. Surely there's a way to do that now?

None of us really own any games anymore and we haven't since the PS3/360 generation. None of that is specific to Microsoft at all.

I genuinely believe that bespoke console hardware will be irrelevant after PS6/Next Xbox. I believe that we will have generic PCs in a box under our TVs and we'll be able to buy or stream PlayStation games and Xbox games via those stores.

What Microsoft is doing now is building a loyal audience amongst people who would never actually buy an Xbox.

From that point onwards, they're customers. Customers who are very likely to keep buying.

@PlatinumMikey Microsoft has always been a software company. The entire hardware business is unprofitable. Sony would love to stop selling PlayStation consoles yet keep people buying their games.

Hardware costs billions in R&D, manufacturing, packaging and shipping. The whole point is to lock you in to their ecosystem. That's why I believe Microsoft's strategy is the best, long term.

@SMJ You know you’re being a bit disingenuous with this whole purposeful narrowing of what counts as hardware support right? It’s a narrative you’ve been pushing for a while now.

Playstation has always had a mix of 1st, 2nd and 3rd party games to support their hardware. Not counting multiplat games like MLB and Marathon doesn’t make much sense, those games also contribute to the platform. Why would MLB and Marathon not be considered part of Sony’s support? Same goes for 2nd and 3rd party like Death Stranding 2 and Lost Soul Aside. Some of the best Playstation exclusive games like Bloodborne weren’t even first party.

You’re clearly shifting the goalposts to to fit this negative narrative, but Playstation gamers are actually eating good in terms of exclusives. Sony obviously does support their hardware, and supplementing 1st party dry spells with 2nd and 3rd party exclusives is a perfectly fine strategy. Like i said before, it’s basically how they operated the whole PS1 gen, and that worked out great

That clearly implies that you equate hardware support only with first party exclusives. I’m just pointing out how narrow that definition of hardware support is. 2nd and 3rd party exclusives also count as hardware support, as do first party titles that happen to be multiplat.

Hahaha, typical that I just replayed this on the 360 and then held off replaying the sequels because I figured they'd be coming to PS5 soon. Might just pick up where I left off, they're still great fun on 360.

I love Gears Of War.

I'm honestly very disappointed it's just one game and the not the trilogy. I'm not sure I will jump in day one now, I definitely would have if it were more than just Gears 1, but I do appreciate the lower price.

just so happy that this includes horde, as heard rumours that it would be the campaigns only. So excited to get on the multiplayer again

@Dimey honestly, horde mode is possibly my favourite multiplayer game ever. Such fond memories of playing that with my friends back in the day. Multiplayer gaming perfection.

@Dimey Gears of War 2 was the game that introduced horde mode and they didn't add it into the 2015 remaster of the first game so I don't think it's in the new remaster of the first game either. By mutliplayer they're talking about PvP.

@PlatinumMikey isn't it just for the cross progression though so like if your swapping between Xbox and ps Getting to keep what you've leveled etc and not having to do one on each kinda thing

@Decimateh-xblz if you’re taking about the MS account requirement as far as I can see it locks you to playing with ps gamers when I’d prefer the whole cross play thing. I’d love to kick some Xbox butt on it 😜. I actually like cross play. Except for with the PC modded/cheaters ofc

No No No, please nooo . It has multiplayer!? I want to play this so bad.. The original game requires over 450hours for the “platinum”… I they copy the list over, this will be the only game you can play for the rest of the year, maybe even the rest of next year to achieve the platinum… I’m praying they don’t put the multiplayer trophy’s in this, but Microsoft are dumb with achievements and never do it correctly. Man I wish this game didn’t have multiplayer, the multiplayer in gears isn’t even fun 😭

So it's not a remaster or remake at all. It's the same as the first remaster graphically but they upped the resolution and fps, and added a few extras like VRR, HDR, Dolby Vision, Spatial Audio & Dolby ATMOS. I'll have to pass.

@PlatinumMikey I agree should be console only pc is where the cheaters are 😭. I like to stomp Sony Bots myself 😜 but that sucks then tbh I thought it meant just like progression across Xbox/ps. Dumb idea tbh why wouldn't you just give everyone on ps crossplay they'll be way more lobbies bland it will last longer online🙄
