State of Play Set for Wednesday, 20 Minutes of Borderlands 4 Gameplay

Looking forward to skip this one!

The characters looked so bland and uninspiring. Should have just given us a character creator like the tiny Tina game

I highly doubt I'm the first to say this, but after the absolutely phenomenal BL2, BL3 was such a let down (don't even get me started on those twins), and paired with whatever the hell that movie was - BL4 really needs a miracle here 🙂

I love the borderlands games but if this exactly the same as 3 I'm out the series needs a massive overhall now saying that i might be in the minority here but i enjoyed tiny tinas wonderlands more than borderlands 3

Potentially leaving more space for GTA? Nahhh the yotei release date suggests gta isn't coming this year after all, or at very least not until Nov/Dec.

I suspect this release date change is to address the stupid decision to set the Marathon release date the same day as Borderlands 4...

This is releasing on every current system known to man, why does it have to be PlayStation that has to waste a State of Play on it and not Microsoft, PC and Nintendo?

This State of Play will flop.

TBH they already told us this was happening. I think going forward, at the end of each SOP, it would make sense if they let us know when the next one will be and roughly what content will be there (PSVR 2 games, PS5 games, extended showcase on a game etc.,).

Does anyone really need or want a whole SOP on Borderlands 4? Feels like a waste of time.

20 minutes of BL4 seems to be a bit.... excessive, I would rather see more on Hell is Us or Phantom Blade 0 or maybe even Saros, I know they only show games that nearly releasing but still...

I wonder if Sony tried to get marketing rights to GTA VI and Take Two made them do the marketing for Borderlands as well as part of the deal.

It's a relief that this event is happening in April because it increases the chance of Sony having a more general SoP/showcase in May/June. Maybe Rockstar announces the GTA6 release date on the week beginning May 12th and then the floodgates open for gaming news in general?

So, they just drop the Ghost of Yotei release date, a major Playstation first party title, with no fan fair but commit 20 minutes just to Borderlands? I could not care less about this game personally.

I am interested in Borderlands as usual, I just hope the Vault Hunters are actually cool in this game(and the Villain not be awful like the twins in BL3, they need a new Handsome Jack). They haven't made any that interest me more than Gaige from Borderlands 2(which is the best game by far).

Also I'm surprised Tiny Tina has never been playable. I mean she's a good yet annoying character and her game had a little emotional ending with the whole Roland thing, plus the game was good. We'll probably see her again.

Also this game getting a State of Play isn't that surprising since it will sell a lot like Borderlands tends to do and Sony is the marketing partner for the game. Whether you like Randy Pitchford or not(he's awful) the games are fun, yet mindless.

I'm not sure there's a lot that could bring me back after 3. They struck gold with 2, everything else has been mediocre at best.

Well, they said it was coming at the last SOP, so...

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic. BL3 (story-wise) felt like a desecration of the first two. I'd expect that for a DLC, but not the main game. Normally I'm onboard for a new Borderlands, the dry character models don't give me a lot of confidence. With such an established franchise, so many artists and resources, I just expected more. They look like four normal enough people going for a stroll, Lillith, ZerO, FL4K, Mordecai all look/play great.

That said I haven't seen how these new characters play. I'm just not feeling the hype I felt for the previous games. It's a sci-fi shooting action game, the main protagonists should represent that world. They look like they came from a Zoolander walk-off. I should care more about the gun-play, the loot, the world design and game-play loop. Instead it's very hard to not zero in on how much they look like NPCs, not vault hunters. There's usually a booth in the game that lets you mix n' match outfits and even heads. Maybe I'll do that.

Borderlands 4 gets a full State of Play, while Sony's 1st party titles barely get a trailer or a dry post on X... makes me so proud to own a PS5!

Does anyone actually like Borderlands? Of all the IPs to survive with four entries, bizarre.

Borderlands 1 was awesome, fresh, cool and a ton of fun
Borderlands 2 was somehow an improvement on what was already great and that much more fun
Borderlands The Pre-Sequel was too similar and too soon after the last entry and ended up being largely forgettable and .......'just OK'
Borderlands 3 was a big disappointment for A LOT of reasons. Take your pick - i'm sure you have your own.
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands was somehow surprisingly good and quite fun. I suspect because it didn't entirely follow the Borderlands formula, but whatever the reason it worked pretty well.

Borderlands 4 though? I remain skeptical based on 3 and the Pre-Sequel, but cautiously hopeful based on Wonderlands. One way or the other, I know I'll end up picking this up at some point but I highly doubt it'll be on Day 1 like I've done with the past entries. I DO KNOW though, that I don't need a 20 minute SoP for this game.

I must be the only one looking forward to this 😅. I've enjoyed all the games so far, there's something just satisfying about the gunplay and gameplay formula.

Can't wait to hear from Randy how surprised they are B4 failed commercially..

I guess I'm in the minority who actually enjoyed Borderlands 3. No, it wasn't as good as the first two - but having annoying antagonists wasn't bad, they were the antagonists, after all. I wonder if the commentary on social media, while admittedly as subtle as a sledgehammer, was a bit too on the nose for some players.

I'm sure I'll play Borderlands 4 at some point, when the extra special super-duper over-the-top edition with ALL the DLC goes on sale for $20, in about 4 years.

Ok, I know I'm in the minority of people who mostly don't have an issue with Sony's shows and am usually satisfied enough with what I see, but even I have to ask, does anyone want this? Is there anyone clamoring for a Sony exclusive deep dive into Borderlands 4 when Death Stranding 2 is right around the corner?

@UltimateOtaku91 I'm trying to. It depends on how the classes play. I need to see the endgame loop too, I liked the chaos system from Wonderlands. BL3 had some good endgame elements but it was so easy to cheese. It never felt like that on Wonderlands, until you met a hacker who would nuke the entire map.

Borderlands was never my thing to be honest. Always heard good things about it when it was first released, but just never got into it myself.

Sony has so few games itself it has to borrow other peoples games to make a direct. Why can’t they just make a direct with the new Ghost Of game?

@johnedwin Busy developing them? Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2 were Playstation games the last time I checked. They aren't lost just because they aren't currently showcasing the games they're still working on. Maybe they are being more careful after leaks like Wolverine happened and they don't want to show something off before it's ready.

Patience has always led to some damn good Playstation games. An exclusive showcase for any game on the platform doesn't mean the platform is lost, it means the platform was chosen because it's got that much reach. I respect the hustle regardless if I like the game or not.

Borderlands is boring. Tiny Tina was pretty fun, but fell into the same game loop and got boring as well.

It ended with BL2 for me that was pinicle FPS story game ever Handsome Jack was just a brilliant badguy especially when he would talk on the coms "Butt Stallion, Come Here Butt Stallion, (horse noise) arrrr Butt Stallion says Hello"

This series is one of the best looter shooters, looking forward to 4 , Zane Flynt was my favourite character to play in 3, I'm hoping the character selection is not too garish for 4 🤣

You either love or hate Borderlands. Just like any other game franchise it has its good and not so good games. Personally I love the games overall. I find the whole looting and shooting cycle enjoyable.

Yeah BL1 started it all, BL2 made everything better and is the peak of the franchise, BLTPS was more of the same but not ut as good, TTW changed the scenery but felt more like DLC, and BL3 was ok with great gunplay and controls but cringe IMO.

I'll be buying BL4. I know it will be the same core gameplay as all the others in the series but if it was any different I wouldn't buy it, or just go play another game.

Funny how this franchise seems to get smashed with negativity all the time, but if that was said about other franchises, comments would be edited or removed. If you don't like the game, no need to bash it. Just go play something else.

Weird hate here for a series that I have always enjoyed for what it is. Its silly, purile over the top humour with enjoyable gunplay that is always enjoyable to play.

I recently replayed 1 and it does get a bit repetative towards the end but they improved on that with the sequels having more biomes. Plus number 2 had a brilliant antagonist, I would place him up there as an all time great for being very memorable.

This is a big entry in the franchise for me, in terms of my long-term relationship with the series. Probably put a good 1200 or so hours into Borderlands 2 between PS3 and PS4. TPS was also pretty good. BL3 made a lot of nice QoL changes but the endgame just couldn’t hold me as long.

So I’m hoping this will be a good step in the right direction. The initial reveal of the vault hunters appearances had me a bit worried, but I’m keeping an open mind.
