Highguard is the talk of the town right now, but if the initial player feedback is anything to go by, it might not be for much longer.
This is the title that infamously closed out The Game Awards 2025 — on host Geoff Keighley's recommendation, apparently.
And now the free-to-play shooter is here, tempting people in with its somewhat unique blend of fantastical setting and snappy gunplay. Hey, you can even mount up on a bear!
But as we've seen time and time again, you either need to be red hot right out of the gate, or have some serious potential to make it in the live service space these days. And again, based on user reviews and general online discourse, Highguard isn't quite hitting the mark.
For what it's worth, we think the game's decent, with the potential to be pretty damn good, but decent usually doesn't keep you afloat for very long in such a competitive market.
Will it prove to be popular enough to keep its head above water? Only time will tell — games have survived with far less interest in the past — but that's a topic of conversation for another day. What we want to know right now is whether you've actually played the thing.
