The Sands of Time Are Running Out on Prince of Persia's PS5 Remake Shadow Dropping Today 1

Update []: Well, we can now categorically say that 16th January has come and gone without any mention of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, meaning that original rumour was wrong.

Just to recap: a fairly well-regarded snoop had said Ubisoft was planning to release the title on 16th January. There had been hopes it may be a shadow drop, but we can now say with authority that didn’t happen.

It doesn’t mean the original source was wrong, of course – plans may have changed behind the scenes.

Regardless, the wait goes on for more information on this long-awaited PS2 remake.

Original Story: According to esteemed rumour monger Tom Henderson, the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was due to release, well, today – on 16th January, 2026.

But, well, it’s not looking likely, is it?

As we write this, we’re already deep into the day, and not a peep from French publisher Ubisoft. We think the sands of time on this particular rumour are running out.

There had been rumours that the title may be re-revealed at The Game Awards, but that was ruled out prior to Geoff Keighley’s show. Meanwhile, a slew of fake stories have come and gone over the past month or so – some of them fooling even us.

To be fair to Henderson, it’s possible 16th January was a targeted release date at one point, but plans can change internally. Perhaps the publisher didn’t feel it was the right time – or maybe the game still needs a bit more work.

Either way, we don’t think we’ll be waiting too much longer for this title. It’s been several years since its originally intended release date, and while we appreciate development has been rebooted since then, we’d put money on an early 2026 release.

Just not today, it seems.
