Highguard Is Already Struggling to Hold Players' Attention 1

Highguard had a pretty enormous launch this week, but things already aren’t looking particularly good for Wildlight Entertainment’s debut project.

As we reported earlier in the week, following the first-person shooter’s reveal at The Game Awards and subsequent social media silence, there was enormous interest in its 26th January launch.

On PC platform Steam, the only storefront where we get concurrent player data, the title peaked with 97,249 players.

But that number has collapsed in subsequent days, with the release managing a high of just 12,478 players over the past 24 hours.

While we don’t have access to comparable data for the PS5, it’s difficult to imagine a different trend emerging on console.

Now, to be fair, the game doesn’t necessarily need to maintain enormous numbers in order to be a success; it’s possible it may find a small dedicated niche in order to sustain itself.

But this early data suggests a bunch of people logged in day one to check the title out, but aren’t sticking around.

Pretty much all games see a drop-off in interest after launch, of course, but this is a big collapse – the way things are trending it may be struggling to hit peaks of 5,000 players by next week.

How are you feeling about Highguard now you’ve had a few days to put it through its paces? Our initial impressions were positive, but looking at our poll results – where a whopping 80% of you said you had “zero interest” in the game – it looks like it has an uphill battle ahead.
