Bungie found itself in hot water earlier this year when plagiarised art was discovered in its upcoming game, Marathon, but the issue has been resolved at last.
The news comes via the artist to whom the artwork belongs, Antireal, who shared an update on social media:
In no uncertain terms, it seems the artist has come to an agreement with Sony and Bungie on the matter. It's presumed this translates to a financial payout, though no details about the outcome have been made public.
In May of this year, when an alpha test of the extraction shooter went live, Antireal shared that the game was plastered with her artwork, with no recognition or compensation.
This spurred Bungie to conduct an internal review, as well as acknowledge the issue publicly in a livestream.
Obviously, it shouldn't have happened at all, but it's good for all involved to have reached a satisfactory conclusion.
Marathon is conducting another closed playtest later this month as the sci-fi FPS gradually moves toward release, which is expected to be in the first quarter of 2026.

Would loooove to know the details of this. Also I still don’t see a world where this doesn’t flop unfortunately.
Regardless on how well it does when it gets released. Marathon will never be able to escape the Art raiders moniker
It could just be a very good game - if it is I think it will survive even if it is a product with a dependence on capturing and sustaining your attention in an attention-based economy where they've already been labelled by a lot of the chronically online consumers.
You could say that Bungie has paid the wrong people if they wanted this to succeed no matter the quality of the game. Why? Because whoever they've paid for marketing and promotion haven't made sure that this game is viewed in a positive light.
I wish this game would disappear
This statement is so clearly written by lawyers and the conclusion of the lawsuit lol.
@get2sammyb Will also 100% have a gag order in place too...
@Dan12836666 not happening
Removed - trolling/baiting
@get2sammyb Yeah, or as part of the agreement she had to write and put a statement on social media.
Extraction complete. I bet it involved a Mara-ton of money.
@SeaDaVie I have plenty of friends just dont like live service games thats all I despise games its not multiplayer games its the fact live service are trying constantly fleece gamers you can agree or disagree thats ok its your opinion fair enough
Still DOA. They had zero intention of compensating the artist until the public outrage
@SeaDaVie I'd take a step further. People who are constantly negative and criticize things 95% of the time are unlikely to have any meaningful relationships.
I hope Marathon turns out to be great.
What are the odds that it was isolated to this one instance and one artist?
I bet they have the artist on a NDA but on that note I'm guessing Sony/bungie saved some time and money in the grand scheme of things.
This game needs to be cancelled. It has courted nothing, but controversy and is likely DOA anyway.
@EYEBALL @Oram77 @get2sammyb When game journalists are invited to visit Bungie for a behind closed doors game showcase/preview, they get their tattoos copyrighted ahead of the trip just in case.
I'm actually looking forwards to this game.
@naruball way to make a backhanded and negative comment seem like you're such a positive person
@8bitOG sure, buddy.
@naruball I ain't your buddy, guy
