Marathon's Stolen Art Debacle Has Finally Been Resolved 1

Bungie found itself in hot water earlier this year when plagiarised art was discovered in its upcoming game, Marathon, but the issue has been resolved at last.

The news comes via the artist to whom the artwork belongs, Antireal, who shared an update on social media:

In no uncertain terms, it seems the artist has come to an agreement with Sony and Bungie on the matter. It's presumed this translates to a financial payout, though no details about the outcome have been made public.

In May of this year, when an alpha test of the extraction shooter went live, Antireal shared that the game was plastered with her artwork, with no recognition or compensation.

This spurred Bungie to conduct an internal review, as well as acknowledge the issue publicly in a livestream.

Obviously, it shouldn't have happened at all, but it's good for all involved to have reached a satisfactory conclusion.

Marathon is conducting another closed playtest later this month as the sci-fi FPS gradually moves toward release, which is expected to be in the first quarter of 2026.
