Re: 'We Should Have Clearly Disclosed Our Use of AI': Crimson Desert Dev 'Sincerely Apologises' for Erroneously Including AI Art in PS5 Game

darylb24

AI has been used in video games for the last 20 years in some form or another.

Most people are touchy about art-related generative AI, but as long as it is removed in the final product, then there is no issue.

They will remove the minor art assets made by AI, and they won't be adding them again. Other gaming companies will continue to follow suit by being more thorough with removing concept art.

To be fair, though, the majority of gamers who aren't vocal online actually just don't care and want to play fun video games regardless of the source.

Re: Hands On: Crimson Desert Runs Well Enough on PS5 Pro, But What About That Intro?

It has some of the worst quest design and controls I've ever experienced in a game, yet I really enjoy the game for some reason lol.

I have never played an MMO, but this gives me that vibe.

It's all about grind, fetch quests, and busy work. I actually quite enjoy those mindless games while multitasking, so it works for me.

I do feel there will be people who bounce hard off this game, though, because on a fundamental level its actually not a particularly good video game. It's just a lot of content that you kind of interact with on a surface level.

Re: Starfield's PS5 Release Seems Practically Inevitable at This Point

Embargo drops on Tuesday, the 17th, and pre-order will be available then too.

The launch date is April 7th. I will grab the update and maybe the DLC on Xbox unless there are some significant PS5 Pro updates.

I loved the game at launch, and I am looking forward to the QoL updates.

I am not sure how well it will sell on PS5, but the port is done and paid for now, so they might as well ship it there and get some ROI.

Re: Fastidiously Multiformat Square Enix Skips PS5 with Yet Another Game

darylb24

Everyone is assuming Microsoft money hatted the game when the simple reality is that SE can port the PC version to the Windows/Xbox On PC store and get an Xbox Console version ported for zero work. Why would you not add Xbox when it costs nothing?

The PS5 port would require work, as it is a closed ecosystem. I hope that in the future, there is a way that makes it smoother for devs to convert a PC build into a PS6 build for easier back-end, porting like PlayFab.

Re: Fastidiously Multiformat Square Enix Skips PS5 with Yet Another Game

@Acquiescence Even as a big PS fan, I can say confidently that Xbox is not anywhere close to dying as a brand. Maybe as a traditional console maker, sure, but as a PC platform, they have a new console coming out and make like 20+ billion dollars a year in gaming revenue. As PS players that's what we want to keep Sony accountable.

Also, I don't think this was a money hat. Xbox has a scheme where if you port to the Windows store, you can get an Xbox version without any work, so I think they went that route, whereas PS5 is a closed ecosystem where they would have to work with a PS5 dev kit and work on stuff like control schemes.

Re: 'No One Is Buying This on PS5': PC Port Begging Already Unbearable as Sony Switches Strategy

darylb24

As a PS5 Pro owner, this is not the game I got the system for. It looks like another returnal, which I don't think will be selling big numbers tbh. I am sure it will find its audience, but it's hardly a system seller, and they could have sold more by putting this one on PC.

Wolverine is the one most PS players have been waiting for, and I can see why that would be kept exclusive alongside a GOW/Horizon/Intergeraltic/Gran Turismo

Re: PS5 Players Could Get Compensation as Sony Slammed for Monopolistic Practices in UK Court

darylb24

@JoeNobody, @DanteDevilHunter I think you fundamentally misunderstand what the legal action is for.

You can buy digital versions of Nintendo and Xbox games at high street retailers - you cannot do this for PlayStation games. That is why they are being taken to court, because customers should not have to go to the PlayStation store to buy PS or 3rd party digital games.

They won't be made to sell their games on Nintendo or Xbox.. but they will have to make digital versions of games available at high street retailers and pay compensation for the last 6 years or so that they took the option away.

Re: PS6 Rival Xbox Helix Could Cost as Much as $1,200

darylb24

Right now, it's all just conjecture, same with the PS6 price and release date. MLD does not know anything more about release dates and prices than we do. He is making a guess based on the little tech information he has.

Even in this gen, pre-launch, we overpriced the PS5 and Series X based on the specs and how much we "think" it will cost.

One thing a lot of speculators fail to account for is Sony and MS's ability to buy in RAM, CPUs, and SSDs in huge quality, which can sometimes make a £600 RRP product around £250 per unit to buy in mass production.

Re: Study Claims Sony's PS5 Games Are Leaving Big PC Sales on the Table

darylb24

Honestly, I feel like PS5 attracts mostly casual players in its 90 million-plus cohort who have no interest in PC games. Sony could keep console exclusives and go same-day on PC, and they would really double up.

Most PS5 players also don't have a beefy PC on the side, and most PC players with a beefy PC don't need a PS5 to run a worse version of the game.

I think the overlap is vastly overestimated and Sony could have their cake and eat it too.

Steam is a lucrative market, but if they want to keep people on PSN, do an Xbox, and launch their own in-house PC app, where you do a Sony and make players pay for each version. Sure, it's anti-consumer, but it hasn't stopped Sony before, and due to a strong brand resonance, they can get away with it and increase profits long term.

Re: Opinion: I Wonder if Xbox Helix Will Force Sony to Break Its PS6 Silence

darylb24

If Sony does not see Microsoft Gaming as a competior then they do not need to do anything until they are ready.

I think the pulling of PC ports makes me think Sony does still see MS as a threat and will not want them to get the jump on a perceived home console. MS has been known to strong-arm Sony many times on areas like with achivements, back compat, and crossplay/PC ports. It's common inside knowledge that Sony thought the Series S was the main console and had to overclock their CPU and add a new GPU at the last minute to keep up with the Series X.

If MS drops paid online, they will probably strong-arm Sony into doing that too.

They won't say anything much this year, but if MS is planning for next year, they will push Sony to do the same. They do not want to lose any of the market share they have gained to the looming threat of a growing PC market.

Sony is not a platform innovator by any means; their success was to observe, react, and then market it better. It did this with Sega and Nintendo and now with MS.

Re: PS6 Competitor from Xbox Revealed as Project Helix

darylb24

Why did I expect rational comments here lol. I am curious to learn more about this console.

The idea of being able to play Xbox and Steam games does seem kind of cool, though. It's not like Sony put out many single-player games that I am interested in these days.

Re: 'It's the Real Deal': Tech Experts Praise PS5 Pro's Upgraded Upscaler

darylb24

I am now glad I got my PS5 Pro in January, as SSD prices skyrocketed, the 2TB internal storage is worth the extra £200 alone (1TB SSD's are in the UK are now mostly out of stock with prices at £180 or over £300 for 2TB)

Then you have enhanced graphical/fps performance, making it a no-brainer for a regular gamer who wants to get through the next 2-3 years of gaming.

I am curious about the upgrades to Crimson Desert, 007 First Light, Wolverine, and GTA 6.
