The question on everybody's lips right now is whether Grand Theft Auto 6 really will launch on 19th November, 2026, or if it'll be delayed again. Here's another question, though — how will it launch?
One would presume, for a game of this magnitude, a simultaneous physical and digital release would be appropriate. However, a new report suggests retailers might not receive disc copies of the game — at least initially.
Polish website PPE.pl cites a "trusted" source named Graczdari, who apparently correctly revealed various things in the past, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024's PS5 port.
According to Graczdari, "who handles physical video game sales in Europe", Take Two currently doesn't have plans to launch a physical version of GTA 6; at least, not day one alongside the digital edition.
The report says this would be a tactic to help prevent leaks and spoilers from those who receive the game early, something that can happen when games are distributed physically.
If this really is what the publisher is planning, Graczdari is unsure exactly what the release timing will be for the physical version. They say they're hearing conflicting things, with some saying it'll become available a few weeks after the digital debut, and others saying it won't be until early 2027.
It sounds plausible, in a way; Rockstar Games is a famously walled-off company, for one thing, and the only physical version that'll shift any copies is on PS5. Even then, physical games is a rapidly shrinking part of the market, so delaying GTA 6's arrival in stores won't have a big material impact on the game's sales.
We also only have to look at the unbelievable longevity of GTA 5 in sales charts to know that its sequel, should it delay its physical release, will more than make up for any lost business over the coming years.
All that being said, this is not confirmed information, and is based on just one source, albeit a purportedly reliable one.
It'll be interesting to see whether this has any truth to it, but of course we won't know until we're much closer to GTA 6's scheduled launch later this year.
What do you think? Might GTA 6 skip a day one physical launch to avoid leaks? Are you planning to buy the game on disc or via the PS Store? Tell us in the comments section below.

I won’t be buying until a physical copy is available then.
I’ve been all digital for years and have 2tb on the Pro, so that’s ok, if I actually buy the game.
Suddenly, a cry of a thousand collectors, echoed in the night.
"No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering".
Grabbing popcorn 😜
Seriously though, I'm just gonna wait for the PC version, as I'm not in a hurry to play it.
I can see how this makes sense, and spoilers from early physical games has been a problem for a while; however, I don't see that they need to delay by more than a week or two in order to achieve what they are aiming for - anything more than that sounds unfair.
I'll wait a couple of months longer then. Pretty much every game is being spoiled anyway, i assume the game will be large so more casual gamers that don't go marathon the game in one sitting, will run on spoilers eventually. So pointless reason to delay.
doesnt bother me as long as a more patched physical version is available eventually
Sounds like they’re testing the waters for future digital only releases.
I usually prefer to buy physical in case I don't like the game I can flip it and trade it in.
GTA 6 however I'm fairly confident I won't be getting rid of it so if ever there was a game to buy digitally...... this is it
I will hold off for the physical release. It's already been a 13 year wait, another year or two is fine. There is plenty to play in the mean time.
I have no interest in GTA Online. So, there is no rush to get to the story day 1.
If they decide to go completely digital, then I'll wait for a steep discount.
Isn't their profit margin larger for Digital?
Doubt they care about spoilers. But with a game selling this many copies at launch, getting a bigger cut going digital makes a lot of sense, even if it's only a month delay to physical.
So 90/100 euros it is.
GTA 6 transcends the physical medium.
I dont believe it. While i enjoy gtas story, its not rdr or the last of us. Most dont care
Guess that’ll be a no-buy from me for a while. Not that I intended to get it at launch anyway.
GTA is an online game now anyway, lol
I don't think it will be just the physical version that releases in 2027, I think the entire game won't see the light of day until then. Highly doubt that it will be out this year...
@Stragen8 I would assume so, there’s no additional production and logistical costs regarding digital media for a publisher. The storefront hosts the digital copy and any associated costs are covered by their sales cut. Also, you can’t trade a digital copy so there’s no risk of sales being cannibalized by the second hand market (money that the publisher doesn’t see).
There’s very little incentive, other than potential negative sentiment, for a publisher to provide a physical copy in today’s market. Not really a problem for anyone that’s transitioned to digital only, but obviously an issue for anyone who still covets a physical collection.
Even if it’s to avoid spoilers, T2 also at least appreciates the higher margins of digital distribution for the gigantic sales numbers of the first few months (80+m?).
Eh, I don't plan on getting the game until it's on sale on PC anyways.
If this were a game I intended to play, this would be irritating and I’d say something like ‘Then they won’t get my money at first either, not until they allow me to buy and own it’. But since they insist on forcing the online component (of which I have less than no interest in) into GTA’s trophy list I have zero intention to play it anyway. Take it a step further, don’t release it at all on disc, makes no difference to me.
Games gotta be 250-300GB anyhow. If not more. No disc is holding 1.0 unless its multiple
This would kill sales if its not available in physical form before the holidays as you can't gift digital games.
I will hang off for a physical release as I prefer games on disc. Although it seems silly that to prevent disc owners giving spoilers, they will put them in a position to be spoiled by digital owners.
The cynical side of me feels that the fact they can charge more for digital and avoid cheaper sales, trade ins against a purchase, etc... may have a hand in this.
"..to prevent leaks.."
Or they want to sell the premium digital deluxe edition that comes with 4 day early access. 🤣🤣🤑
Then i'll wait. I'm not going to be bullied into paying exorbitant digital prices AND losing my rights (to sell, lend etc.) when I don't have to.
@Stragen8 Yes, their cut is higher on Digital, and they cut out the second hand market. Plus retailers usually fight over who offers the lowest price on big games, so it's a stealth price increase for physical gamers.
Haha “leaks.” Take two has been playing this game since Borderlands 3 launched exclusively on Epic Games Store.
Makes perfect sense. My brother was friendly with the guy in our local games shop and used to get games ahead of launch all the time. I'm sure these days people are getting them further up the distribution network and far earlier.
Not sure why there would be tears either. This isn't a 12 hour campaign type game that you play and immediately sell. It's a game that makes sense digitally as it is something you keep long term.
Plus as I always say; we see publishers/developers spitting in the face of gamers with gambling boxes, pre-order DLC and other scummy practises, and they still crawl over broken glass to throw money at them.
So I don't seriously believe the hype monkeys who've been frothing at the mouth for this game for years, when they say they will sit there and twiddle their thumbs whilst we are all merrily playing it, as they wait for the physical copy.
They remind me of those Japanese soldiers who were hiding on little islands in the Pacific and refusing to surrender in the 1960's and 1970's!
The war is over boys. You've lost. Physical is dying. Ten years from now it will be extinct. Why deprive yourself? Come in from the cold.
I was buying it digitally anyway. With all the updates, patches, and the inevitable PS6 digital upgrade...the physical copy will be worthless.
Makes no difference to me.
A smart move to avoid leaks - plus 99% of players will get the digital copy anyway, and the others who really want the license on the disc will wait.
I doubt it'll fit on a single Blu-ray anyway.
I will wait for a physical edition
Avoid spoilers, or an extra month of development time?
Let’s use our brains people.
Been all digital for years so couldn't care less. Save 15% on the price via discounted PSN credit so I'll get it cheaper too. Hardly going to trade it in so that element isn't relevant either.
Now let's wait for all the cope about 'pleased to wait longer' 'wasn't going to buy anyway', 'would rather not buy than buy digitally because I like to shake my fist at a cloud'.
Oh, it's already all here.
I'm buying the physical copy, so I'll wait.
If it does release on the date we currently have, I think it would be an odd choice to release the physical game after Christmas, small market or not. This is the one game of them all to sell crazy numbers on disc, especially for what I would expect to be the biggest time of the year for retail.
Who gives a crap if there’s some leaks a week early. Everyone will have it and see everything in a few of days anyway so what does it matter. Those that don’t want spoilers will just have to not watch those videos/read those articles, it’s very easy!
I won't be buying it on launch day, then. Although to be honest, I'm not sure if I'd buy day one anyway, given that this could be $80, or possibly $100 for the standard edition.
