Re: Uproar as Halo PS5 Demands 2 PS Plus Subscriptions for Local Co-Op

@Intr1n5ic

Sony decides whether it wants to require one or both players to have PS+ for this particular game. If there were issues, they could have just not made it a requirement for this particular game. Xbox seems to be fine with just one player having a subscription. Steam has no issue letting both players play without a subscription. Seems like a Sony choice from all angles.

Re: GTA 6 PS5 Pre-Orders Open on 25th June, Cover Art Revealed

Maybe I am getting old (late 30s), but I can't say I am excited by a pre-order pre-announcement with cover art.

I will digitally pre-order the game a few days before the launch date to pre-load.

A new trailer or updated website with game information would be a little more exciting to me.

Re: UK Gamers Question Hobby's Future as Government Bans Kids from Social Media

Better to do something than nothing. Doing nothing has led to many young lives lost and ruined over the last decade.

We all know that something needs to be done about gaming platforms like Roblox. They are not safe spaces for children.

This isn't about stopping kids from doing bad things; it's about keeping them away from bad adults who lack accountability and/or conscience.

This is basically the best of a bad set of outcomes, to be honest.

Re: Even with PS5 Ports, Many of Xbox's Games Have Been Underperfoming

darylb24

Now it makes sense why they are focusing on only bringing bigger live service games like COD and Forza Horizon to PS5.

I think Xbox needs to make more AAA games (excluding live service) and reduce the amount of AA output. 2-3 a year is good.

Sony needs to make fewer live-service games and more AAA games per year. Again, 2-3 Wolverines or Ghost of Yotei's would be a good cadence per year.

Re: Fascinating PS5 Sales Estimates Peg Ghost of Yotei as a Triumph

darylb24

Sales for Yotei are expected to be in the 5-10 million range, as hardcore players prefer single-player, story-driven games. I hope SIE takes this as a clear message to have at least 2-3 single-player games per year and not to waste studio resources on multiple live-service games (scattergun approach).

Re: Xbox Planning Major Layoffs Next Month, Could Involve a Studio Closure

Bad decisions by previous leadership means Asha sadly has to make very difficult decision to trim the bloat and cut the losses.

It doesn't matter if you go multiplat or exclusive if you have bitten off more than you can chew. Hopefully Xbox gets back to a healthy position for consumer choice and for the future security of staff.

Re: Xbox Will 'Try to Do More' Console Exclusives if the Health of Its Business Improves

"It’s hard to find examples of platforms out there that don’t have exclusive services and content."

She knows that Xbox will fail as a platform/Ecosystem if it has no exclusive content.

We shall see how it pans out in the future, but I think that beyond Forza, COD, and TES 6, most other games wouldn't sell that much on PS5 anyway.

Fable is one that I think will sell reasonably well, and to be honest, it probably needs to go to PS5 given it was probably given a larger dev budget on the condition it was multiplat.

I don't think Halo or Senua will sell that well on PS, and it's not like these games don't cost addtional time/money to develop.

I think they are realizing that outside the big hitters, it just isn't worth the effort to spend years trying to get PS5 fans to love Halo and Gears. It's not even about growing Xbox; it's about not wasting money on an audience that doesn't want it. When you have only 300k players buying Saros, you might think Gears and Clockwork could do even worse, and that's just a waste of time.

I guess if Xbox fails, all we can expect is higher prices and less content from Sony.

Re: Whoops! Xbox Accidentally Uploads Gears of War PS5 Trailer

darylb24

"Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball dropped a “no comment” on the situation."

Didn't Matt Ball explain in a video to Dring that the strategy fell into 3 categories and that Xbox was having more exclusives in the future?

I still think them pulling this from PS was the right choice, even if they made a last-minute choice to undo some of Sarah Bond's deals. PS has its own exclusives, and Xbox and Nintendo should have theirs. Give consumers a real choice in the ecosystem. Just keep the same energy when Herman Hulst has to close down another studio because of another live service failure.

Re: Xbox Revives State of Decay 3 for PS5 in 2027

darylb24

@Bez87 That is a lot of words to try and convince me that a 40 million plus PC install base is not enough to sell well. PS5 has a similar attach rate to Xbox and Nintendo despite having a much bigger install base. Most PS5 players are casuals who play NBA, FC and live service games, as demonstrated by player numbers. Saros has sold less than 500k units, and Gears Reloaded sold under 300K units. If I were MS, I would not bother either. Forza makes sense because they know they can get 5 million plus units sold.

Re: Reaction: Mealy-Mouthed Microsoft Takes Us Back to 2023 with Mixed Messaging on Xbox Exclusivity

darylb24

No idea why people are so worried about it or see it as an issue. Especially PS5 players. There are plenty of games to enjoy on PS5. Just don't expect games from Xbox or Nintendo, and then you can't be disappointed (if you even want those games). I am fortunate enough to have all the consoles, so I get the respective exclusives for each console and take advantage of each ecosystem's best features.

I get that there is a need to drive engagement to the website for ad revenue, but it's really a non-issue for most people.
