Re: Here's Why Starfield Will Be Best on PS5 When It Finally Releases Next Week

darylb24

I loved this game on Xbox and have got this for my recently acquired PS5 Pro.

It is a shame they can't do a 60fps quality mode rather than just increase the resolutions of both modes, but the Pro still has the same CPU limitations as the other consoles, give or take 10%.

The performance mode cuts back on a number of lighting effects and NPC density in case anyone was wondering.

Also don't expect the same level of modding support on here vs Xbox/PC. Sony has mod support locked down.

Re: Poll: Do You Think PS5 Can Outsell PS4 with Its New Price Point?

darylb24

I think it's fair to say without GTA6 100% no.

With GTA 6 it will be close.

I do think if Xbox maintains its lower price points particularly in a key region such as the UK, it will definitely eat into PS5 sales where it's up to £90 cheaper for the Series X. The Series S represents an even bigger saving for the budget gamer with a saving of £220 -£230 for the 512GB (Vs the digital model)model and £170-£180 savings on the 1TB model (more storage than the 825gb model).

The overall price difference between the cheapest available series s (£290) and the PS5 disc (£570) is fairly substantial for someone who has a tight budget but really wants to play GTA 6 day one (£280 saving).

Re: 'No Mode Is Properly Optimised on Base PS5': Crimson Desert's Console Performance a 'Mixed Bag'

darylb24

I am enjoying the game on PS5 Pro, but yeah, it's clear this game was developed for high-end PCs with consoles as an afterthought.

Very little was done to the game engine to make it scalable to mass market console CPUs. Most AAA games are hitting 60fps on their quality modes on the Pro, while this game can drop to sub-30fps on the performance mode due to the CPU bottlenecking.

Re: PS6 Could Be Cheaper Than Expected, Despite $1,000 Concerns

darylb24

@Sulleymonster They do it for the ad revenue. Sadly it's the only form for monetisation that will keep staff employed. As much as I don't like it myself I've learnt to tolerate it for the sake of jobs. There is an ad free membership but clearly the uptake isn't enough to sustain.

Re: PS5 Pro Buyers Rush to Beat $899.99 Price Hike Next Week

darylb24

I got one for a discount in January as I had heard from work that the price was due to go up at the start of the financial year. With the current PS5s on a decent discount until Tuesday we have seen a surge in online and in store sales of both base and Pro. We have also seen a decent boost to the Xbox Series consoles with their sale as it went down to near launch prices. Switch 2 has been the slowest seller despite the physical success of Pokopia (they understocked it) I think it was a lot of the pre existing 25 million consoles owners who got the game. I think Fire Emblem with be the real system seller as as far as I can see no price changes before that.

I expect Xbox sakes to pick up too as the Series X digital and physical are going to be between £70-£90 cheaper for more storage in the digital case which is an advantage for GTA 6 sales.

Circling back to PS5 I will say £520 for 825gb of storage is diabolical.

I think Sony was betting on GTA 6 launching in May when they financially planned in this decision and now they will be betting on it and basically praying on November 19th to lift sales to thier expected forecast.

Given that Wolverine is due out in September with Fable from what I am hearing taking October, they may get their wish.

Re: Sony Announces Gigantic PS5 Price Increases, Effective from April 2026

darylb24

I told you I saw this on my work back-end system yesterday/early this morning and that it was effective after the current sale!

Hopefully, when anyone sees a comment I make about work-related info, they can be assured that the rumour is 100% true!

Btw, this isn't a told you so lol.

Comment is below - looks like PS replaced their old rumour article with this one so here is the OG comment from about 6/7am GMT

Just logged into the back-end systems of the company I work for, and yep, the prices are rising.

It's not immediate, though. We have a sale running on PS5s until Tuesday, so the pricing update should be sometime after that.

This was expected before the end of the current financial quarter, so it lines up. GTA 6 in May would have softened the blow, but they will have to take a sales hit and make it back up over the holidays.

Re: Crimson Desert (PS5) - A Generational Open World Buried in Early Access Cruft

darylb24

It's a lot like Cyberpunk 2077. (Not the complete buggy mess), But the fact that the game was undercooked and was missing some big QoL features. Give it a year or 2 and this will be a great game.

I am 50 hours in and enjoying it, but if I am being real, if another AAA game I wanted came along tomorrow, I would drop this and not come back for a long time.

Re: Despite PS5 Hits, Sony Sinks to 21st in Metacritic's Publisher Rankings

darylb24

This is what happens when you have Herman Hulst obsessing over poor partnerships, milking old IP, forcing live service onto studios that don't want to do that, and neglecting single-player games, which are typically the critically and commercially successful games for SIE. The studios are poorly managed, and if it weren't for Insomicac, they would be in far more trouble.

It should be a wake-up call, but it won't be until the finances are hit hard enough (they already wasted Billions).

The sad thing is the hardware/uscalling tech and even the controller options (Edge), and peripherals (Portal) are better than ever - but my PS5 Pro is used for 3rd party games 95% of the time. If there wasn't a Pro I wouldn't have got a PS5 and just stuck with my Series X and Switch 2.

Re: PS5 Players Seemingly Skip Marathon as Sales Estimates Look Very Weak

darylb24

Wow, that attach rate for Xbox is higher than on PS5.

A 0.4% attach rate on Xbox vs the approximate 35 million consoles sold (Could be less and actually even higher %) vs the 0.2% of the 90 million + PS5 install base. I would have thought the PS5 attach rate would be higher than Xbox, even if not by much, as it's a first-party game.

In layman's terms, it sold better on Xbox with its install base, which is a surprise and maybe a reminder to Sony that maybe their core audience actually prefers their single player games.

You would hope these sales figures and the studio closures would be a wake-up call for Herman, but I doubt it tbh.

Re: 'We Should Have Clearly Disclosed Our Use of AI': Crimson Desert Dev 'Sincerely Apologises' for Erroneously Including AI Art in PS5 Game

darylb24

AI has been used in video games for the last 20 years in some form or another.

Most people are touchy about art-related generative AI, but as long as it is removed in the final product, then there is no issue.

They will remove the minor art assets made by AI, and they won't be adding them again. Other gaming companies will continue to follow suit by being more thorough with removing concept art.

To be fair, though, the majority of gamers who aren't vocal online actually just don't care and want to play fun video games regardless of the source.

Re: Hands On: Crimson Desert Runs Well Enough on PS5 Pro, But What About That Intro?

darylb24

It has some of the worst quest design and controls I've ever experienced in a game, yet I really enjoy the game for some reason lol.

I have never played an MMO, but this gives me that vibe.

It's all about grind, fetch quests, and busy work. I actually quite enjoy those mindless games while multitasking, so it works for me.

I do feel there will be people who bounce hard off this game, though, because on a fundamental level its actually not a particularly good video game. It's just a lot of content that you kind of interact with on a surface level.
