@knight_spg They sign porting agreements for certain upcoming games, but there is nothing to stop them from moving Forza and Fable into 2027 if they wish, as they have not committed to release dates - just a release on the platform. That's why Forza is coming to Xbox first and PS5 later this year. If they give Fable and Forza hard dates then yes they can't just cancel that only delay.
What she said is the kind of the way business works - look at the data, look at what has worked and hasn't worked, and then take action.
Businesses that don't pivot often fail. Even Sony will need to pivot away from its current strategy eventually if it stops growing.
The current Xbox strategy is not working, and ports to PS have varied from huge successes like Forza 5 and Oblivion Remaster to flops like The Outer Worlds 2 and Gears Reloaded/Flight Sim 24. It is reasonable to review what isn't working and change it.
This article comes across as a little bit baity - but SEO works, I guess lol.
I would rather have Xbox talk too much than the nothingness we often get from Sony.
Outside of Forza 5 and Oblivion, the ports haven't been a roaring success, and it's clear that whatever Phil and Sarah were doing is a direction that MS wants to pivot from.
What it pivots to is anybody's guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if they move to a timed 6-month or 1-year console exclusive model, as a lot of the PS5 ports didn't sell that well and have just done more damage to the long-term brand than good.
I can see a lot of "undoing" in the coming months and years.
If this is what Sony's future looks like (shutting down single-player studios to fund live service), then I won't be getting a PS6. I will just get a PC.
Regardless of the "we don't know everything" angle, what we do know is that this has been the worst generation for single player games coming out of Sony due to Jim Ryans and Herman Hulsts/accounting departments' live service obsession. Insomniac has been doing some heavy lifting this gen.
Of course, most people on this gaming enthusiast site are going to vote that they mainly play game over apps lol. I have seen a huge shift in the way younger generations consume media post-pandemic, though.
I loved Starfield when it came out, and I will check out the DLC and updates when they hit Xbox. I doubt I will get it again for my PS5 Pro, though, unless they offer quality mode at 60fps and/or some other noticeable upgrades.
Honestly though, given the general sentiment by the comments here and other PS-only console players, I wouldn't think porting the game over is worth the time/cost/effort.
@1UP-HUSKY From what I saw, Kena is not coming to Xbox or Nintendo yet, so it would be reasonable to assume that there is a timed exclusive contract in place based on the funding.
I was just stating that they shouldn't (if they are) be mad at Square for taking Nintendo's timed exclusive money the way that they took it for FF 7 Remake/Rebirth. That's it, nothing more.
Square always follows what they deem to be the "safe" ROI.
@Oram77 For a couple of incidental timed exclusive games (BG3/Wukong), but they are doing it for some of the upcoming Konami games and the upcoming Kena game. Money-hating means a timed exclusive contract with PS and, in some instances, funding support too. I'm not sure if you thought I meant something else.
@get2sammyb I am talking about an improved yearly cadence of Sony single-player AAA games (tried and tested). Maybe 3 or 4 rather than 1 or 2. How they work that out on a studio level is something they need to figure out if they want to monetize players at an increased level with maximum profit margin.
I really enjoyed this one last year and recommend it to anyone who enjoys action RPGs with meaningful choices and lots to find if you explore. Playing the mage class was really fun.
Also, if you like The Outer Worlds 2 but want it in a fantasy setting with fantasy weapons, this is the game for you, haha.
@RedRiot193 The Marketing Director Will Powers actually said you don't have to "get good"; you just need to invest enough time into levelling up your gear to overlevel the set-level bosses/areas if you want it easier. I think that's a fair way to make your character strong without you needing to be technically good with reflex-intensive things like dodges and parries. It rewards time investment even if you aren't as skilled.
This is a KCD 2/Dragon's Dogma 2 situation where you level up your gear/ and unlock skills via Abyss points. Enemies/bosses and areas are at a set level, so if you invest enough time, you can over-level to make the challenge much easier.
This is not a souls like and will be nowhere near as hard.
All you really need to fully enjoy this game is enough free time to invest in upgrading gear.
The main issue for casual gamers will not be the difficulty - Will Powers even said you will never have to "get good" with dodges and parries like a Souls-like. The Barrier will be the time investment required to level up.
Late 2028 seems about right - a year delay is similar to what the Switch 2 did, and with diminishing returns on upgrades, it will still be an upgrade over the PS5/Pro. The main issue will be how much they are willing to lose on each console.
I know those who cover PlayStation news won't enjoy it though lol.
I watched the video, and he does make some fair points as someone who has actually made video games at Sony/other places (despite the way it is presented).
@kmtrain83 I think you completely missed the point of what I said.
I very much enjoy gaming, I just didn't enjoy that particular show which is as reasonable as if someone loved the games that were shown. I plan on buying around 30 games this year including Pragmata and 007 First Light. It doesn't stop my enjoyment of video games at all.
If you like remakes, previously shown trailers, East Asian Action Games, horror games, fighting games, and Konami IP, then this is the show for you. IF you wanted to see anything else (including PSVR 2), then you will be justifiably disappointed to a degree.
The John Wick teaser may be the reveal that resonates with the broadest audience.
I think saying "you need to find a new hobby/gaming isn't for you anymore" because you didn't like this showcase is reductive and just illogical.
I thought the recent Nintendo Direct was better than this show, but that's just my opinion and not the objective truth; the same as this State of Play isn't objectively better.
I will always take umbrage with those who gaslight others (with the "I'm the real gamer here") in this way.
The poorest, for my own personal tastes, in a while (JRPG's/ Simulation/ Sports/ Big hitters like Pragmata, 007 First Light, GTA 6, Crimson Desert, Wolverine, Fable, Forza 6).
I saw a lot of previously announced game trailers, remakes/remasters.
Hopefully they don't spend too much time on multiplayer games in this showcase. It won't go down well otherwise.
What I want to see is new announcements and release dates for 2026. I also would like to see more of Sony's 1st party offerings coming out this year or next (not Saros, as that can get its own SoP next month).
I do fear the show will be full of recaps from already announced games, dlc and multiplayer games.

@Max_the_German You can say that on a PlayStation fan site lol. Get that logic out of here!
Re: Sony Quietly Decided to Scale Back PC Ports Last Year, Insider Claims
They will be back to PC when fewer people want to pay a lot extra for a PS6.
There are also just a lot fewer single-player games to port over in the first place.
Right now, they have enough of a PS5 install base to support the next couple of years' releases.
Re: Sony Confirms Big PS5 Pro Upgrade Is Out in March, Better PSSR Upscaler
I am hoping it will provide a boost for Crimson Desert and 007 First Light.

Re: Marvel's Wolverine PS5 Release Date Announced
Looks like MS are going to drop Fable on Xbox and PS5 in October along with the next COD and GTA6 might even hit November now!
Not sure when Forza 6 will come to PS5 but I'm guessing November or December.
Depends on when Gears on War drops (by August ot in 2027)

Re: Sony Goes Silent on Social Media as Fans Turn Feral Following Bluepoint Closure
Years of bad decisions are coming back to bite Sony now, no matter how good their PR department is.
Re: Incoming Xbox Boss Promises a 'Renewed Commitment to Console', But Will Still Publish on PS5
This leadership change is a result of a desire for change in the direction Xbox is going in.
Sarah Bond was passed up for a reason.
What the change is - we shall see in due course.
As someone rational, I won't be quick to pass judgment - I will wait and see before doing that.

Now it's Sony's turn! Herman Hulst, next please.

Re: Xbox RPG Avowed Snubs PS5 Pro Support
I'm wondering if Sony only gave Microsoft a limited amount of PS5 Pro dev kits (Maybe prioritizing Gears of War, Halo, Forza 6, and Fable).
Limited time to port the game over to the level they may want could also be a factor (to ensure it was launched on the anniversary date).
Might be something to consider the later 2026 AAA launches before assumming its down to lack of skill or laziness.

@Naughtyottsel92 I don't think that's quite true of Microsoft in recent years lol.

Sony would be in no position to complain about exclusives after the years of money-hating they've done and continue to do, lol.

Hopefully, Sony can increase its output of Software content if it wants to monetize beyond it's exisiting amounts.

You don't need an Xbox. Just play it on PC if you don't have a PS5.
PlayStation exclusives don't last forever, and one day there won't be any at all, the second the current business model stops working for them.
These days, the only console you really need (If you like those games) for exclusives that don't show up on PC is a Nintendo Switch 2.
