This is the best way. Have popular games that make money come to PS5, and the other should stay on Xbox to keep things competitive. I got a PS5 for Wolverine, a Switch 2 for Fire Emblem/Pokemon, and an Xbox for Gears/Clockwork Revolution.
Successful brands have exclusivity. Like it or not, it works. If you move away from it, your ecosystem becomes unsustainable.
@Swandivetotheasphalt Well, what was the sales data for console? And what were the Game Pass metrics? Unless you have that data, we cannot assume either way.
All we know is that it didn't sell that well on PS5, and it causes reputational damage to the Xbox brand that a PC port does not.
I just don't see that many PS5 fans being excited for E-Day, so there is no point porting it over regardless of anything else.
Good, every console ecosystem needs its exclusives to be competitive. I wouldn't buy a PS5 if I could get Wolverine or GT7 anywhere.
Outside of Forza 6 and TES 6, I don't see many other single-player games selling big units on PS5. It is not worth the addtional reputational damage that Microsoft is trying to reverse with casual gamers (I know it won't sway the small bunch of hardcore PS fans on this site).
Also, at my workplace, we were told to remove the PS5 data today (Yes, we have to work weekends for big events like this), so it looks to be true.
I don't think this will be a major miss for the vast majority of PS fans (Reloaded sold very poorly on PS5). Most of the PS install base leans towards live-service games like Forza.
The takeaways (if you aren't blinded by console/company bias)
Asha speaks well and is giving the best answers to questions that don't have an answer yet.
Clearly, her user acquisition experience is coming into play, with her confirming the price cuts have returned Game Pass to growth after losing users last year.
Like Sony, she has to tread a fine line between exclusivity and profitability. Her team (especially Matt Booty) are espiucally pro exclusives, and hiring Matt Ball (who was very critical of the previous leadership's move away from exclusives) will ensure she is going to bring exclusivity back in some manner to grow the ecosystem.
Case-by-case basis means live service games like COD and Forza will remain multiplat, as they are big money makers, and PlayStation has also seen that live service games are driven by player numbers and user engagement, not by ecosystem.
We know Fable and the Halo remake have deals signed with Sony, so expect those to come over.
What will be interesting is what she does with games like Gears of War E-Day, Clockwork Revolution, State of Decay 3, Marvel's Blade, and TES6.
She could make them all permanent exclusives, timed exclusives, or mix and match.
Maybe TES6 will be leaving too much money on the table to not put out day one or timed on PS5. Maybe Marvel's Blade needs the extra audience to make back the licensing fees.
Asha will look at the data and weigh up the cost of money vs. the cost of brand and make a choice.
Some people will like it, some people won't.
The only person she needs to worry about is what her boss thinks after letting her drop the 30% profit mandate and boot Copliot out of console.
Satya will decide what success looks like based on numbers going up or down for Xbox, not what anyone online thinks.
I, for one, want Xbox to succeed, so they keep PlayStation on their toes. If they don't, we will see more price increases and service stripping across the board with no competition in sight.
@1UP-HUSKY No bubble has been burst, don't worry lol. We saw SE games at the Xbox showcase last year, so it would not be unreasonable to see some this year.
@8th_Observer You aren't balanced at all then lol. You have your own bias, the same as someone who will buy dominoes tonight because they don't like what Sony is doing this gen.
Pretty sure Santa Monica is a corporate social media account, last time I checked lol. The admin was too easily triggered that's for sure and it will play into the hands of the naysayers.
I've seen a lot of people buying dominos in the UK and outside, so this marketing ploy must have worked.
I am sad to see the comments section has decided to make this a political beach ball rather than just a matter of differing tastes.
There is a conversation about Sony milking IP and not creating new worlds for characters rather than making the same IP and swapping out the characters.
Either Friday or Sunday is a lock. Square has a marketing deal with Xbox. Square will go to the highest bidder for reveals, and maybe it is the big one that GK needs to make his show stand out this week.
Square also might not want Persona 6 overshadowing them a bit at the Xbox showcase.
If Nate The Hate says tomorrow, then it is 95% likely.
@naruball I mean numbers don't account for your own personal tastes, if you like JRPGs, you will like the Xbox show the best. If you like horror games, then of course State of Play will be the best for you. A lot of PlayStation and Nintendo fans like JRPGs, so they will enjoy the Xbox showcase.
@AdamNovice The JRPG fanbase is growing on Xbox, but also everyone knows the Xbox showcase is one of, if not the best, showcases each year, so 3rd party publishers want to be there.
I already found out it will be shown at the Xbox showcase, which is a huge W for Xbox. It will only be a quick title screen with 2027 at the moment, though.
The marketing deals that Sarah Bond did with SEGA and Square Enix are really paying off now. FF7 Part 3 and the new Kingdom Hearts are a very real possibility for upcoming Xbox shows.
If you are a JRPG fan on any platform, the Xbox show is a must-watch for you.
@ArkhamGhost It was for another Take 2 game. Looks like June 11th now, last time I heard. We only get placeholder data until very shortly before we are meant to upload the game to the web system. Take 2 doesn't send many emails per year, so one of them will be GTA 6.
I will be real, the only games I have liked from that list are Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, and I like the look of Wolverine, Intergeratic, and the new GOW. I guess what I have always enjoyed from Sony is single-player 3rd-person over-the-shoulder cinematic action-adventure games.
They hooked me on certain PS4 games, and that's what I enjoy from them now. I do think the PS5 gen has been weaker with fewer new IPs and too many modern remakes and sequels.
I also really like JRPG's and RPGs. Xbox and Nintendo have far better offerings when it comes to those games with titles like Fable, Clockwork Revolition, State of Decay. From Nintendo, I like Pokémon, Xenoblade, Astral Chain and Fire Emblem. Farming Sims like Rune Factory and Story of Seasons are also games that come to Nintendo First. I also like arcade racing like Forza 6, and simulation games.
I don't like Horror games, fighting games, souls-likes, rogue-likes, or those China-inspired action adventure games. That seems to be Sony's MO this gen, so outside some first-party stuff, they are not covering the fairly long list of games I do like.
As we get older, it's good to be a bit more fussy with games. It's our time and money that we don't get back.
Mystic Ryan had heard that the collectors' editions were not selling through quickly enough (Spiderman 2, Ghost of Yotei, DS2), so they are slowing down on offering that. The prices are too high for many.
I was hoping to see Intergerlatic, but maybe it is being shown on Friday. I will be disappointed if we don't see it before August. That would signal it is less likely to make 2027. So far, we don't have a roadmap for 2027, so it would be good to see what Sony has to offer us next year, single-player-wise. I already know what to expect from Xbox (around 3-4 single-player games); the same from Nintendo.
I think something that Summer Games Fest, The Game Awards, Xbox, and Nintendo do better than Sony at the moment is new 3rd-party game announcements. I know this year has been a little backlogged with games waiting to allocate launch dates, but I feel like most of the SoP games were previously announced.
@GeeEssEff Honestly, it's not even the first-party stuff, but the 3rd party marketing deals with SEGA and Square Enix, which is a real treat for JRPG fans.
@Hylian-Likely I found out today that Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 will be at the Xbox show, I think the Xbox show will blow everything else out the water this week ngl. Persona 6 is a huge deal.
This generation has been poorer than the PS4 generation by a mile.
Too many sequels to games that some players may not have played.
Too many remakes of games are barely old enough to justify them.
An obsession from Jim Ryan and Herman Hulst on live service that caused studios to close and Billions of pounds to be wasted.
Poor investment strategy from Jim Ryan and Herman Hulst.
Profit margins have stagnated, and SIE is relying on milking it's exsiting user base.
The stats don't lie
Hideaki Nishino has a lot of work to do to ensure SIE does not fall into terminal decline over the coming years.
So far, only players are affected by the lack of output, but profits will dry up eventually. There are only so many Billions you can waste if you are a Sony-sized company.
I am hopeful that SIE is now course correcting, and this showcase is the reboot back towards things that worked.
Continuing the launch of high-quality hardware and accessories
Creating brand new AAA single player experiences like Intergeraltic, Venom, and other new IP.
Carefully navigating sequels like Horizon 3, the next GOW, and Spider-Man ( Maybe try the prequel approach).
Reviving much older IPs like Killzone, Drive Club, and InFAMOUS could give studios a quick cash boost to grow into new IP endeavours.
Focus on quality over quantity with live service launches, and use the huge IP catalogue to create something that fans can connect with.
Just imagine an Astro Bot live service game, or a Drive Club racing game, or a KillZone shooter, or a PlayStation characters fighting game?
Most PS fans don't care about how many consoles have been sold; we just want great games to play at a decent cadence (2-4 AAA single player games per year).
@Yor-sama Microsoft does not "need" Sony. I do agree that Forza Horizon 6 and maybe The Elder Scrolls 6 will sell well on PS5/6, but the other games didn't sell that well and didn't add much to the sales. Most PS5 players prefer live-service games like Forza Horizon 6.
In terms of the show, it will realistically play out like this:
Guaranteed
Wolverine (Show opener)
Very Likely
Break-In (Formerly FairGame$)
Marathon Season 2 trailer
Likely
Intergeraltic HP
GOW Faye Spin-off
Kena 2

New dates for previously announced games (Tomb Raider, Star Wars Zero Company ect)
1 or 2 new 3rd party AAA announcements
A couple of indie/ PSVR 2 announcements
A new controller or PS Portal OLED
Outside bets/Not Likely
Hogwarts Legacy 2
New Sony IP reveal outside the above-mentioned
GTA 6 Trailer
FF7 Part 3 Trailer
Sony revives old IP

Persona 6, Persona 4 Revival, other SEGA/Atlus or RGG games (due to existing marketing deal/Game Pass deal with Microsoft)
I will probably enjoy the Xbox showcase more as it is typically the best show each year, but this State of Play could be an interesting one if they can impress with upcoming 1st party games or snag a big JRPG. These days, Xbox seems to be the place to see the big JRPG reveals thanks to Sarah Bond.
@Simon_Fitzgerald SEGA/Atlus games like Persona 6, Persona 4 Revival, Stranger Than Heaven and most others will show up at the Xbox showcase as Xbox has a multi year marketing partnership with SEGA/Atlus/RGG.
I know people may see Asha as "weak" or a "people pleaser," but be assured she is highly competent at user acquisition. She has had significant success in user uptake in all of her executive roles to date.
She understands that larger Xbox influencers, and the media at large like IGN and Hookshot, do influence consumer views and behavior.
Negative views of Xbox have filtered down as they were not challenged by Phil or Sarah.
What she is trying to do is control the narrative around Xbox.
Hardcore PS5 players who frequent this website will not be swayed, but there are millions of casual fans with no brand loyalty who just want to be sold on a bright future and a reason to invest in Xbox.
She knows that what Nintendo and Sony do works as much as we don't like it, exclusivity works.
It works for media companies like Netflix, video game platform holders, and tech companies. If you want IOS, you buy into the Apple ecosystem. If you want a PS5, you buy into that system.
Xbox needs to find its USP to navigate the next 5-10 years in tech, and Asha is here to do that, not just appease a few people on Twitter. Don't be under any illusion just how far social media can reach into wider society (especially with gaming/tech fans) when it comes to core messaging like "Xbox is dead" or "Xbox is back".
A recent UK YouGov poll has Xbox as one of the biggest swings in negative to positive news messaging since February of any large corporate brand.
I mean, all ports apart from Forza Horizon 5, Sea of Thieves and Oblivion Remake have sold under (and in most cases well under) 500k copies.
The new release of The Outer Worlds 2 did particularly poorly on PS5, given the time and cost of development. I was one of about 170,000 people who got the PS5 version. Forget about console wars and what players want; it's just a huge waste of money on a business level, and Amy Hood won't let the team waste money on ports that offer no realistic ROI.
I think they should not waste their time on anything other than live service games like Forza 6 and COD. Fable, I can see an argument for it as it will already be ported and will probably sell well.
The rest is not worth the time or cost when most of the sales are on Xbox/PC and Steam. As they lean towards PC, the % of PC sales will go up, and consoles will be less of a consideration.
Just finished the game, had an incredible time and I feel like with the success and the story set up, a sequel or DLC is very much on the cards.
I don't often have a desire to replay single player games, but with different routes for the stealth parts, I now want to! I will be checking out tacsim too. It is rather "tacked" on though (if you'll pardon the pun).

If I see souls like, I am out. I am also not a fan of the art style.
Re: Despite Uncertainty Over Exclusivity, Xbox Will Still Show PS5 Logos at Showcase
Re: 007 First Light (PS5) - James Bond Returns in a Strong, Confident Origin Adventure
Finished the game and loved it - 10/10 for me. I hope there will be a story DLC and a sequel in the future.
Re: Crimson Desert's PS5 Feature Set Has Been Expanded in Latest Patch
I am waiting for all the updates to finish first haha
Re: Rumour: Persona 6 Protagonist Leaks Catch Fans Off Guard, Reveal Whispers Intensify
We could see something at the Xbox showcase!
Re: 007 First Light Debuts to 1.5 Million Sales in Just 24 Hours
Just finished the game, had an incredible time and I feel like with the success and the story set up, a sequel or DLC is very much on the cards.
I don't often have a desire to replay single player games, but with different routes for the stealth parts, I now want to! I will be checking out tacsim too. It is rather "tacked" on though (if you'll pardon the pun).
Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Is Official, Launching This October on PS5
Many people moan about COD but it will still be one of the best selling games of this year.
Also looks like no Fable this year as Xbox have to fit in Gears of War E-Day too.
