Re: This Abandoned and Blue Box Game Studio Thing Is Getting Out of Hand

Kang81

Ok, I get people are excited for stuff, but tracking down the personal PSN account people involved and spamming it with messages is basically stalking.

I'd like to see Sony temporarily ban accounts harassing the guy over this. Particularly if their dumb enough to use their own PSN accounts to do so.

People take stuff far too seriously.

Re: PS5 Console Exclusive Godfall Is, Er, Coming to PS4

Kang81

@Yaycandy

I'm playing Rift Apart now, a good 4-5 hours in, unlocked my4 and 5th location.

As always, R&C is gorgeous, but I honestly think the only reason it's "only possible on PS5" is due to the Rift mechanics. Which is basically what Insomniac said.

If it wasn't for the Rift mechanics, I'd see no reason it couldn't run on a PS4, albeit a bit less stunning in the visuals, but hardly enough to really matter.

Re: Xbox Head Targets Sony for Not Launching Games Day and Date on PC

Kang81

@Play

Yeah, they just buy them instead, and even then how long do we need to wait for actual releases?

I was all about Xbox during the 360 era, they have nothing that interests me anymore. Even though I've got a few more years of GamePass Ultimate from taking advantage of the dirt cheap $1 upgrade a while back, I havent turned my XB1 on in years outside of just to update it, if even that.

Game Pass is nice for consumers, but I just see it as the console version of all the hate I read about the Epic Games Store. Let's just throw open our enormous coffers of money and persuade people to come to us instead of actually putting in the effort to bring them to us.

The XB1 is now almost 8 years old, and instead of spending those 8 years using their enormous resources of money to start up new 1st party studios to bolster their games lineup, they just throw money at 3rd party developers and buy them outright and then will highly likely utilize the BS strategy of making tons of historically multiplatform games now a "Console Exclusive", timed or permanent.

As much as I agree that Game Pass is a good deal, I also think it will have long term damaging effects on the Video Game industry.

Having a Netflix of games is nice, in theory, but it'll just end up like streaming media is now. Every big publisher will want to have their piece. Then we'll get Ubisoft Pass, EA Pass (already do on both in a way), 2K Pass, Square Enix Pass, etc. Then publishers will just forgo Game Pass entirely and make their games exclusive to their own subscription based models.

Between digital and streaming/downloading/subscription based gaming options, it's an even bigger push against anyone ever owning the games they buy.

Re: Don't Hold Your Breath for Bethesda's Starfield on PS5, PS4

Kang81

I'm not the least bit surprised. Microsoft didn't pay billions for Bethesda to keep it the way it was. Particularly when it hardly has any exclusives worth caring about these days. (For me anyway, but thankful Fable is back!)

The only thing that truly pisses me off about Microsoft's acquirement of Bethesda is that it includes Arkane Studios. I really don't want to see their games tied down to one console. (Not counting PC)

I'm not against exclusives, if they're made by first party studios, but 3rd party exclusives sucks. So I'm definitely not a fan of Microsoft buying up a large producer of popular 3rd party games to make them exclusive. I'd rather they worked on creating new studios and new IP's during their of the Xbox One instead of cheating gamers out of popular 3rd party games.

I say this as someone who eventually own all 3 of the big consoles. This is some BS that does not improve gaming, just Microsofts bottom line.

Re: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Has Been Played By Over 37 Million People

Kang81

@Korgon

I agree, I always thought Uncharted leaned to much into the action and not enough into the adventure. Uncharted 4 was a nice change of pace. I also like how they didn't include annoying supernatural enemies at the end.

Although, I fully expected the dead pirates to come to life at the end, and even though I'm glad they didn't, I won't lie and say I didn't secretly miss it. 😄

Re: Returnal Patch 1.3.6 Available Now on PS5, Fixes Lots of Common Issues and Crashes

Kang81

So don't update...got it.

I gave up the other day, I had my best run yet, nearly double health bars, large quick use health pack, the astronaut relic for a free revive, some nice artifacts, nice parasites, nice weapon perks too.

Got all the way to the boss door and...

While dodging an enemy, I got stuck in one of the tree trunk bases of one the eyes of Sauron spotlights. WTF?!? Are you kidding me?!? 😡

Couldn't break away, and there were no more enemies alive to kill me so I could revive nearby with the astronaut relic.

20 deaths, I was about to put my boot to the first boss Phrikes and finally reach a new biome.

After a BS loss like that, I couldn't bring myself to fully try again. I made it about 3 minutes into a new cycle and just said F@#! it, I'm now wasting my time.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Claims Sony Has Monopoly on PS Store Games

Kang81

@Omniicron

Yeah, it's a different scenario for MP games. Thankfully for me I have up MP games at the launch period of the PS4/XB1. Destiny was the last game I played PvP in since the 360/PS3 era. That game has become such a joke now that I no longer play PvP at all.

PvE co-op is different, but I still no longer buy into the live service co-op games. Destiny and Anthem burned me on that. The Division I feel was good, but I didn't play it like Destiny, I treated it as a usual co-op buddy shooter RPG with my brother, it just required an online connection. (Ugh, which I am also done with)

So it's just traditional co-op for me from here on out.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Claims Sony Has Monopoly on PS Store Games

Kang81

@WallyWest

I believe he may be referring to the fact that digital copies of games have a higher profit margin over physical. Digital games no longer have to worry about packaging, shipping, retailer cuts, etc. So yes, digital games should be fairly cheaper than physical.

It's no different than ebooks having a lower price point, or digital copies of movies/CD's having a lower price point than their physical counterparts. I firmly believe its why there is a growing trend of "physical packaged" games ending up being just a case with a download code inside.

I'm all for these companies making money so they can keep producing entertainment for us, but I and many other consumers aren't going to just throw our money at them.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Claims Sony Has Monopoly on PS Store Games

Kang81

@Omniicron

I agree.

I use GameFly still as a way to demo games I'm interested in before buying along with renting games I had no intention of buying. Sometimes I end up keeping a game I had no real interest in.

As for digital, yeah, I wait for super cheap PSN sales now. I treat games like any other product. Why would I ever want to pay full price when I can simply wait and get the same thing at a reduced price? If I'm being honest with myself, my backlog is so large I don't ever need to buy a game at launch again.

Re: Returnal: How to Get Into the House

Kang81

@LoveJustHappens

That's how I found mine.

What I would like to know is doe we have to find the house key each run? I always have it in my inventory now, but I've been to the house 3 times since finding it and cannot open it again.

So I wonder why I have the house key still if it no longer works. My guess is it's available at predetermined times? Perhaps after a certain amount of deaths each time before you can open the house door again?

Re: UK Sales Charts: PS5 Roguelike Returnal Off to Slower Start Than Other Sony Exclusives

Kang81

@4kgk2

That's no reason to stop gaming. Some people like to be smart with their money. History has shown that game prices drop fairly quick, unless it's a Nintendo game.

That's like telling someone to not buy a TV on sale because they can't pay top price for it at release. I certainly don't expect to pay top price for a car or house either. I sure as hell didn't.

It's a hobby, as people age more important things arise like family expenses, homes, healthcare, etc. That doesn’t mean people should just give up something they enjoy because they can't afford every game they want when it comes out.

Re: UK Sales Charts: PS5 Roguelike Returnal Off to Slower Start Than Other Sony Exclusives

Kang81

@Enuo

Exactly! It's more on Housemarque not learning it's lesson of making great, but niche games that didn't sell well. Which nearly led to them closing down. Why they tried to make an even more expensive and equally niche game is a bit baffling to me.

I love their older games, but I have zero interest in roguelikes, and a AAA roguelike makes no difference. It certainly doesn't help that even roguelike fans are on the fence due to a lack of any save feature, even a temporary one, when runs can take 2-3 hours.

I wish the developers all the best, but if this fails, its on them, not Sony. They have my respect for trying to be different though.

Re: Sony on PS5 Stock: Don't Expect a 'Drastic' Supply Increase This Year

Kang81

@itsfoz

Sony, eh, I don't think they go that route, Nintendo on the other hand, yeah I believe that 100% 😑

It really is likely due to component shortages. (Also, PoS scalpers😡) One of my employers customers is Ford. They're currently on a 3 week shutdown because they simply cannot get the semi-conductors needed for production.

When I deliver to the Ford plant in South Chicago, it's like a ghost town in there compared to how much of a pain it is to usually get in and out.

That's just one example, companies the world over are facing this shortage. Covid really screwed things up, and we'll be feeling it's effects well into next year most likely.

I know it seems most people don't want bundles, but it seems to be the best bet to actually get a PS5.

A lot of people like to talk crap about GameFly, but being a GameFly member, I was able to easily grab a PS5 bundle. It was far more expensive, but I'm already a subscriber, so I just paid my subscription up front for 9 months plus got an extra controller and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Not a big deal since I've been with them for nearly 12 years. Gotta demo games somehow since developers hardly make them these days.

Re: Konami Registers Trademarks for Metal Gear Rising and Castlevania

Kang81

If it's not something new, hopefully we get the GBA/DS Castlevania games in a collection.

I'd also love current gen versions of the 3 Lord's of Shadow games. The 1st was excellent, the 3DS game was good, and I never really played LoS2 due to the timing of its release near the launch of the PS4/XB1. Or at least it was on my to play list until them, and it's been backlogged ever since. Yes, I've heard it wasn't great, but I'd still like to go back to it.

Re: Returnal Trophy List Spawns Another Easy Platinum from Sony

Kang81

@The_New_Butler

I dont mind trophies that are difficult but still achievable for most. I'm really not one to care if my gamer e-peen is bigger than someone else's. Besides, I generally only compare then with my brother and a close nit group. Where not super competitive, we just like to go for them as something extra to do in a game.

That said, there are some I have no desire to go for even in games I love. Take Arkane's Prey for example, I think you'd need to complete the whole game 4 to 6 times to unlock them all. That's far too much effort. Sure, I replay games often, but because I want to, not because I need to for one stupid trophy.

Then there is the whole PvP trophy/achievement issue. I think PvP should not be included in a games trophies. PvP modes already have numerous accolades for gamers to strive for in things like emblems, titles, cosmetic looks, etc. on top of leaderboards. Basically, a trophy list before trophies were all the rage.

Take Gears of War and its absurd 'Seriously' trophies.

I played the original Gears religiously with a group of friends for years, I still never made it anywhere near getting the 10,000 kills in PvP needed to unlock it.

Gears 2 upped the ante to 100,000 kills, even with all modes counting, that's an insane amount of time for something as trivial as a achievement or trophy.

Re: Feel the Vibes of Earthblade, the Next Game from the Makers of Celeste

Kang81

I really need to get back to Celeste, it was soo good, despite not getting very far into it.

I also applaud the developers for adding in the assist mode. I definitely don't plan on using it, but I'm also a lot older now and don't deal with difficult games like I did as a kid.

I will play a difficult game, but if it gets to the point I'm just banging my head against the wall, I'll just give up and never finish it. The assist mode means that if I or somebody else did get to that point, they could still see the game through to the end.

Re: Clap Hanz Golf Is Everybody's Golf for Smartphones

Kang81

While I'm glad more people get to enjoy a Clap Hanz made Golf Game, going from essential one platform exclusive to a new platform exclusive isn't what I had in mind.

I finally ditched the iPhone last year for the first time since it launched and went Android. Not that I can't play this on my iPad.

I just wish gamers didn't have to pay a subscription fee just to have a mobile game without all the BS trappings typically associated with mobile games.

This makes me fear the PS5 won't be getting a new Everybody’s Golf. Especially considering Sony wants to focus on AAA titles 🙄, and I doubt they see Everybody’s Golf as a AAA title. 😑

Not while Jim Ryan is running the show anyway.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a PS5 Remake of The Last of Us?

Kang81

I love TLoU, but geez, a remake of a remake? Or should I say remaster of a remaster? Either way, what a colossal waste of time and resources.

Sony's push for more (Jim Sterling voice) AAA games, and less experimental or niche games has me really worried. I love AAA games, but I dont want every damn game to be AAA.

I feel Sony is starting to regain its PS3 launch days arrogance again, and that won't end well.

Besides, I'd much rather have a PS4/PS5 remaster of the Resistance Trilogy over a game that was already upgraded once before.

Re: 10 Digital-Only PS3 Games You Should Buy Before Sony Shuts the PS Store

Kang81

@Turbodream

Thanks for sharing those links. 👍

I always had doubts about digital games, I only really buy them on dirt cheap sales while also owning the physical copies.

I was not aware of the PS4 physical copy issue. Although, I should have suspected similar issues once disc games were required to be installed. PS4 disc games are basically digital.copies anyway, they just required the disc as a DRM check. 😑

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for April 2021?

Kang81

Well I own the Zombie Army trilogy so this will compete the collection, except I'm sure this will be the base game lacking all the pricey DLC.

Days Gone I have on the PS5 PS+ Collection. I'm not really a fan of it. I've played a good 4-5 hours, the story and gameplay weren't really keeping my interest.

Oddworld doesn't interest me much at all. Outside of Strangers Wrath, which was tons of fun, I dont have a desire to play any Oddworld games.

So in the end, this month is pretty meh. I've recently made a decision to only play games I own that I have enough interest in to actually finish. I'm no longer going to play games in my backlog or newly released that don't keep my interest. It's a waste of my valuable free time. So these will go into my backlog, of which I'm making decent progress on with my new decision to carefully choose what I play.

Re: Reaction: Sony Said Xbox Game Pass Isn't Sustainable, Then Released One of Its Tentpole Titles into the Service Anyway

Kang81

@Medic_Alert

I've been able to download the Immortals DLC on PS5, I bought the season pass on the current spring sale. However, I bought the complete edition on Switch, and while I was able to download the New God DLC, I am currently unable to download or access the Myths of the Eastern Realm DLC, despite the eShop clearly showing I own it and the season pass.

How has this game been out since November, yet still hasn't fixed this DLC issue?? 🤦‍♂️

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite PS3 Games

Kang81

You had Prince of Persia Classic, the Sands of Time trilogy, and PoP: The Forgotten Sands, but where is the Prince of Persia 2008 game?

The gorgeous cell shaded one most of the so called PoP fans railed on as bad?

The PoP games are some of my favorites of all time, PoP 2008 included. I would have liked to vote on that.

Re: CD Projekt RED Cancels Dedicated Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Game

Kang81

@NEStalgia

Ha, I just posted the same thing. I must have missed your comment when scrolling through.

Anyway, yeah, this is totally not the route I would want CDPR to go. As you said, EA was a big reason for that push.

Because adding MP to Dead Space 3 sure helped. I will say I did enjoy the Mass Effect MP, but thankfully it was a 'mostly separate mode.

Re: Poll: What Free PS4 Games Are You Most Excited to Play?

Kang81

None of those as I already own the ones I care about, and the rest I obviously don't care about.

That being said, I chose Abzu, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Subnautica. I would have chose the Witness, but I found it to be boring AF. A disappointment for sure as I love puzzle games.
