Shadow Tactics was my first go at the stealth/strategy genre and I was hooked right away. It's a great game and it led me to purchase Desperados 3 as well as Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.
It's a shame the developer, Mimimi Games, ending up closing shop.
I dropped it a few weeks after release myself. I just haven't found the desire to go back to it...yet.
I enjoy the game but it feels like a step backwards to the previous 3 RPG AC games yet nothing like the classic games. It's in a weird middle ground for me.
Perhaps it's the limitation to exploring off the main paths as I feel the only way to efficiently travel is by the roads. Traversing through the forests is basically impossible most of the time.
Either I'll get back to it someday, or it will end up unfinished like Valhalla for me.
Glad some people are excited, but not one thing for me here. After the State of Play disappointment, with the exception of Sword of the Sea which looks great, I'm feeling this is the worst generation of games for me.
Oh well, more reason to just finally work on my backlog.
A little worried Clap-Hanz isn't developing the game. I really hope it's good because I've been longing for a new Everybody's Golf for a long time now.
I would love R6 Vegas remasters/remakes, and I'm still angry Patriots was cancelled and the series turned to Siege and is likely now dead as I loved it.
Which is why I dislike timed demos. Besides the fact people may be too busy, they may not even know it exists until it's too late.
I rarely buy games before I can try them first these days with few exceptions from devs that haven't disappointed me yet. But even that's risky.
Redfall as a case in point. I buy Arkane games day one, but thankfully Redfall was on GamePass and I saved myself some money. It was decent with my brother in co-op but otherwise severely dissapointing.
Time limited demo? Nah, I'll pass just out of spite. I don't understand demos for a limited time.
People have a lot to do in life and giving them one week to try it before pulling it seems dumb to me.
Perhaps the idea is to create more hype but for me at least it does the complete opposite. If it gets a physical release I'll just rent it to demo it or try it via Steam with the 2 hour limit for refunds to see if it's worth a purchase for me.
Seriously. I have my PS5 set up horizontally but still need the stand, and a few soft felt furniture sliders to keep it from being wobbly. Not including the stand is absolutely just pure greed.
Although I think the entire PS5 Pro pricing model or the newer disc drive situation for all PS5 systems is just greed over anything else.
With the troubles of the Xbox, Sony will be more confident...err...arrogant again with less competition.
I agree, he is far more unnoticeable in different games to me unlike say Nolan North, where I hear Nathan Drake in every character he has done save for the Penguin in Arkham City. That was the one time Nolan surprised me in the credits.
True, a lot of the AA games of late haven't been great. I just think of something like Darksiders when I think of AA games that perform well.
Not necessarily my type of game, but Remnant from the Ashes 1 & 2 seem to have been big successes.
Still, I agree with you that the majority of gamers these days want the best of the best AAA games and they won't bother buying anything else.
In my opinion, the more mainstream gaming has become the more it's also become about straight profits before creating good games. It's a business and always has been about profit, but not at the expense
Can we please have the option to revert what holding the PS button down does back to it did on the PS4? To this day it's still ingrained in my head/muscle memory and it was dumb to change it to the opposite funtion in the first place.
I will say the art direction for Skull & Bones is great.
If the rumored to be remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag turns out to be true I look forward to seeing the sales number difference between S&B and the Black Flag remake.
Something tells me Ubisoft will fail to share those numbers however.
I really hope the Black Flag remake is true, provided Ubisoft doesn't screw it up.
Agreed, and I learned that lesson all the way back with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I never buy Ubisoft games at launch unless I can find a deal with a significantly lower price somewhere, which isn't very hard to do.
Let's not forget that Odyssey's Ultimate Edition actually offered a lot more and for less money. It added the 2 DLC expansions in addition to 2 full AC games. Said games being AC3 Remastered and AC Liberation and all for $120.
FarCry 5 added 3 DLC expansions along with a copy of FarCry 3 for only $90.
FarCry 6 included included 3 (arguably terrible) DLC expansions along with a copy of FarCry 3: Blood Dragon.
So past Ubisoft Ultimate Editions have had far more bang for your buck.
Publishers are just going to keep pushing for more and more.
Personally, I usually wait for all the content to actually release and buy the Ultimate Editions for 50% off, usually within a year at most for Ubisoft. I feel buying an Ubisoft game at launch for full price is foolish, but maybe that's just me and a smaller community of patient gamers.
I do agree that Ubisoft + offering the Ultimate Editions of games is far better than the competition. Although it's likely due to the fact that Ubisoft gets all the profits for their service.
I never cared about the difference between 30fps and 69fps before...until I bought my PS5 and (some) games give you the ability to instantly toggle between 30 & 60fps by a simple menu setting without needing to start the game over again from the main menu screen.
Once I could instantly flip between the two I understood what people talked about. I e now become a 60fps snob in some ways. I will choose performance mode over quality all the time because now I can feel the difference.
Visually I don't notice a big difference in quality mode. I don't really notice differences with Ray Tracing either. I don't have a top of the line TV, I just use a moderate TV that claims it's 4K. The better Sony TV is in the bedroom for my wife and I to watch together.
At the end of the day I can tolerate 30fps, but I greatly prefer 60fps every chance it's possible.
I had been holding out forever for the Witcher 3 to get transmog so my Geralt wouldn't have to look like a dork for better stats gear over the starting outfit which I think looked best.
I don't see a new game Plus ever happening for Cyberpunk fans.
Yes, but I bet most gamers will forget all about this by the time CSPR's next game releases. That, or they were fine with the Cyberpunk situation to begin with.
We need a return of quality AA games because AAA has become too costly it seems. I'd gladly take AA games vs Live Service games.
I think one of the problems is AA still won't sell enough for publishers. Too many consumers want the best and nothing but the best and those that would be fine with lower budget games seem to be too few in comparison for the sales publishers desire.
As much as I dislike it, I agree. That being said, I only buy digital when it's dirt cheap, which thankfully happens rather quickly more often than not.
I'd still love a remaster and port of the Resistance Fall of Man trilogy on PS5, along with a new game.
Also, now that Sony owns Insomniac and the Sunset Overdrive IP rights, I'd love to see Sony port it to the PS5 so more people can play it. It could increase likelihood of a sequel if it performs well. It was my most played Xbox One game, and it's a ton of fun!
So far I've only had one bug, but had it happen a few times.
In the random enclosed/mini base-like areas/back alleys, with a turret truck and usually two robot dogs, if I destroyed the turret truck before all the enemies, I would get an on screen message telling me to "destroy the turret." But since I already did, it locks me out of completing the encounter and I lose out on all of its end rewards/XP.
I probably had it happen on 3 occasions, far enough apart I kept forgetting. Now I just save the turret for last. I've yet to see a fix for it in any of the recent patches.
I have to admit that I'm not knowledgeable on the technical aspects of all of this, it just seems that a more powerful console two generations past the PS3 would be able to handle it. I guess I just underestimate how much of a pain the cell processor has been.
Yeah, but its not just Sony, it's all companies. They all claim they need to raise prices to survive, but they're still making record profits while everyone else, or at least the working class, stay stagnant in pay.
Edited for grammar, fat fingering this on my phone
Actually, you could look at Sony having a triple whammy of poor decisions in the past couple of weeks. After the reveal and issues with this month's PS+ games selection, and the absurdly high PS+ price hike, Sony had another blunder. At least in my opinion.
Let's toss in the anti-consumer practices Sony is pulling with the Playstation Portal. Not incorporating Bluetooth connectivity to the device, or ANY device in 2023, is asinine!
Sony is once again using proprietary tech on a device to the detriment of consumers. Sony or fans can try to spin it any way they like, but this move is clearly planned out to help bolster sales of their Playstation Pulse 3D Elite headset, which coincidentally releases near the date of the Playstation Portal. Not to forget the new Sony earbuds either, and while no release date is currently announced, I've a hunch it won't be far off from the Portals release either.
That is a textbook example of a scummy anti-consumer move. Even Apple wouldn't be bold enough to remove Bluetooth connectivity so they could push their own add-on proprietary tech. The backlash would be immense, and I consider Apple to be one of the most anti-consumer companies out there. Sadly, gamers are a special kind of consumer, ones that seemingly don't care when they're getting scammed. At least the majority, not the vocal minority who visit sites like Push Square and keep up with the industry.
Let's not forget the extra slap in the face, the one where people who already own the original Playstation Pulse 3D headset get shafted because it too is not compatible with the PS Portal.
I have no desire to own the PS Portal because I can already achieve its sole purpose with my phone/tablet, my PS4/PS5, and the FREE PS Remote Play app.
I've been saying it for a while, and I'll repeat it here. Arrogant Sony has returned. Due in part to Microsoft's misteps since the launch of the Xbox One. It's made it to where Sony doesn't even have to truly compete with Microsoft. We'll see if Microsoft's latest plays will push Sony to be more competitive as they were when transitioning from the PS3 to the PS4.
Apparently the Steam Deck can run RPCS3 (PS3 Emulator), not very well, but if it can do.it, I don't see why the PS5, a console 2 generations later couldn't run PS3 emulated games.
I think it's more likely Sony just doesn't want to spend the resources to do so.
I'm my opinion, if this drastic price hike is due to adding PS2 games, it's still grossly overpriced. Albeit of they added PS3 emulation, or both PS2 and PS3.
With the crap Sony is pulling with the proprietary audio, in addition to the poor battery life, non OLED screen, and their track record for not supporting new tech for long, I feel you may not have long to wait.
Yeah, people are free to do what they want with their money, it just irritates me that it negatively effects everyone. I'll point it out, but I no longer debate back and forth about it like I used to because it usually just falls on deaf ears.
Like you said, all we can do is what's best for us. I've been more of a patient gamer than ever over recent years. I can wait for a game of the year/ultimate editions with all content to release, and even wait for those to go on sale.
I don't purchase them, never said I did so I don't know where you get saying it's my problem.
In the case of Valhalla, most of the in game gear perks are crap, but in my opinion so are most of the ones in the store. There are some however that can be extremely useful and better than any of the in game perks. Doesn't mean I'd ever pay for them.
It is not the same as pre-ordering, pre-order bonuses are free with the games purchase, though more often tied to deluxe editions.
While FOMO is a consumers personal problem, these storefronts and the content within them are definitely created to psychologically prey on consumers. Whether it really makes a difference in a game or not, that IS a scummy tactic.
There is a reason game companies hire psychologists to create these tactics to get more money from consumers. There are videos out there with industry presentations on these things. It's been out there for years.
Exactly, I knew this would sell well despite my hopes that it would not and send a message. We are the vocal minority. Most people simply do not care about things like being overcharged. Most gamers are fine with or even want games filled with micro transactions, so seeing an overpriced port sell well is no surprise.
I've given up thinking consumers care enough to make a change. All I can do is stick to my guns and not participate. I'd like to play RDR again in a portable format, but its not necessary.
I'll just stick to my 360 copy if I ever want to replay it. Which I honestly have not done since the release of Undead Nightmare.
I'll just wait until Xbox 360 emulation improves on the Steam Deck and transfer my 360 copy to the emulator and play it that way.
Most skins and weapons in the Assassin's Creed games do provide gameplay advantages. They often contain skills or abilities not found within the base game, and often better than the base game.
At least they do in Valhalla. Where you can have weapons that or armor that magically send out waves of fire or beams of energy from your chest like Iron Man.
Of course they're still optional, but that is still a dirty tactic in my mind to prey on consumers.
I don't buy them, but it doesn't make them any less scummy.
My issues with things like cosmetic skins and weapons have multiple reasons.
1) I was around when things like these were unlocked in game via beating the game once or some form of challenge. It's just hard to go from something that was once included for free to having to pay for them.
2) They are outrageously priced, to the point it feels like extortion. I would be more accepting as I believe others would as well...if...they were priced reasonably.
There is absolutely zero justification for skins to cost anywhere from $15-$25 a piece in games. In no way does it take the time or resources to create skins that cost anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3 of the price of the entire game itself. I will vehemently disagree with anyone who feels these prices are justified as they are only this high because of pure greed.
3) Not all games, but in the case of Assassin's Creed, skins should not give gameplay advantages. In AC games, skins and weapons packs absolutely give the player and advantage and often contain abilities far better and unavailable within the game.
They're not necessary to purchase, but I feel that makes them predatory by intentionally enticing consumers with psychological tricks or FOMO to help push sales.
I tried it, I was highly dissapointed. I am perfectly fine with the AA style lower budget games, I actually wish we got more of them, the Darksiders franchise is a perfect example of a AA game done right. As with both Remnant: From the Ashes games.
I found the story, characters, and voice acting in Atlas Fallen to be abysmal. Again, I don't need it to be on par with something like Uncharted or The Last of Us, but Atlas Fallen just doesn't cut it. I feel Forsaken's story, characters, and voice acting were leagues above Atlas Fallen, and I thought those aspects of Forsaken were also horrible.
As for the combat, it's OK, and I like the idea of the momentum system, but I just don't think it works in some ways. I absolutely do not like how unlocked skills are tied to tiers of the momentum system, especially with how easy it is to lose momentum.
The combat isn't difficult, but the horrible lock-on makes it needlessly frustrating, which is part of the reason losing momentum is so easy. The lock-on system just never works properly. It has the tendency to automatically lock onto larger enemies when I'm trying to lock-on to smaller enemies to clear out ads and quickly build momentum.
Having the parry tied to a cooldown is also a poor design choice in my opinion. If this was about 1-on-1 combat it'd be ok, but when multiple enemies can hit you at once, making it easy to miss a parry despite its generous timing window, it just further exacerbates the issues I have with combat and how easy it is to lose momentum due to issues with parry but primarily the horrible lock-on. Manually targeting enemies and avoiding the lock-on-feature doesn't help, it still feels as though the game has some form of soft lock because my attacks still get drawn toward enemies I am not focusing on.
It's a shame, I was really looking forward to this. That being said, I hope this is successful because I want more AA games and I want publishers to see they can succeed and not every game has to be AAA with and outrageously bloated and unnecessary budget.
I agree. The sheer amount of work that these games must require, as evident by the massive size of the development teams, despite a lot of copy and paste design, has to be rough on the developers. I would imagine they would get burned out working on what is essentially the same game over and over. That's certainly not limited to Assassin's Creed.
I'm obviously not a businessman with the knowledge of what works and what doesn't, but one would think having a yearly release schedule would just lead to consumers burnout, which could lead to poor sales, along with rushed development that could lead to more bug filled and rinse and repeat games. Which could just hurt the brand in the long run.
It seems to work for Call of Duty though, so who knows. I just know I'll likely just start picking and choosing which AC games appeal to me the most, and just skip others.

Well if going by the company named Skynet I ran across in Chicago a few years ago they're probably already working on it.
Edit
I just googled them for 💩 & giggles and turns out they're a security systems company... so looks like we are on our way to a bleak future. 😁

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for September 2023 Announced
The least Sony could have done was make September's PS+ games great to coincide with the I'll recieved PS+ price gouge...err...hike.
Instead, it's a double whammy to PS consumers.
Oh well, it's been clear that arrogant Sony is back in full force going by their actions as of late. 🙄
Re: Is Sony Working on a New PS2 Emulator for PS5, PS4?
@sanderson72
Re: Is Sony Working on a New PS2 Emulator for PS5, PS4?
Forget the PS2 emulator, work on a PS3 emulator.
I'm my opinion, if this drastic price hike is due to adding PS2 games, it's still grossly overpriced. Albeit of they added PS3 emulation, or both PS2 and PS3.
Re: Upcoming PS5, PS4 Games for September and October 2023
Who needs Spider-Man 2 when we have Baby Shark: Sing and Swim Party for the PS5
I'm calling it now, it'll be the 2023 game of the year!
Bring it on!
Re: PS5's Remote Play Handheld PS Portal Releases on 15th November
@Constable_What
With the crap Sony is pulling with the proprietary audio, in addition to the poor battery life, non OLED screen, and their track record for not supporting new tech for long, I feel you may not have long to wait.
Re: Red Dead Redemption PS4 Port Becomes Top Ranking Title on PS Store
@Pat_trick
Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage Returns to Series Roots, But Won't Ditch Cosmetic Microtransactions
@RobynAlecksys
So I guess we can just agree to disagree.
Re: Red Dead Redemption PS4 Port Becomes Top Ranking Title on PS Store
@Pat_trick
Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage Returns to Series Roots, But Won't Ditch Cosmetic Microtransactions
@Rob3008
Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage Returns to Series Roots, But Won't Ditch Cosmetic Microtransactions
@Jettstyles
Re: Atlas Fallen (PS5) - The Surge Dev's Best Game Yet
Re: Red Dead Redemption Out on PS4 This Month, Not a Remaster
@Dark_Knight
For a base price, that's ok. It's still a bit hard to swallow that price due to how often it's been on sale, and how cheap those sales were too.
It's still a great game and I recommend playing it, but for a simple port, I feel it should be cheaper. Lots of different opinions on that though.
Re: Rumour: Immortals Fenyx Rising Sequel Canned by Ubisoft
@SuntannedDuck2
