A Bloomberg report which rocked the industry this week revealed that Naughty Dog is currently working on a PlayStation 5 remake of The Last of Us – despite the game first releasing on the PS3 in 2013 and then being remastered for the PS4 in 2014. It means that, should the remake launch this year – there’s no date stated in journalist Jason Schreier’s article – there’ll be just eight years between the original and its remake.
There were six years between the first Resident Evil and its legendary GameCube remake, although technology advanced at a different rate back then, and Capcom’s return to the Spencer Mansion was transformative. Meanwhile, the original version of Joel and Ellie’s cross-country escapade is still perfectly playable on PS3 – and it’s even better in remastered form on PS4, which runs flawlessly on PS5, of course.
So, what gives? Well, it’s perhaps worth stressing that while the Bloomberg article is excellent, it only includes a part of the story. While we trust the information to be accurate, we don’t know how Sony plans to sell the proposed remake and how many resources it’s assigned to the project. With these important details excluded – presumably the platform holder would have preferred to reveal this in its own time – we’re missing a major piece of the puzzle.
Our assumption has always been that PlayStation plans to resell The Last of Us: Part II on PS5, as evidenced by the lack of updates to the title since launch. While the likes of Ghost of Tsushima and – ironically, given its sequel never got off the ground – Days Gone have been patched to run at 60 frames-per-second in 4K on the next-gen console, Naughty Dog’s survival horror sequel still performs exactly the same as on a PS4 Pro.
We know that the Californian developer has big plans for its follow-up to multiplayer mode Factions, and we’d envisaged a future scenario where some kind of remaster was bundled with the online shooter similar to the Deluxe Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Now we’re pondering whether the platform holder is effectively remaking The Last of Us in its sequel’s engine – bumping the presentation and gameplay to the same standard – and plotting some kind of Complete Edition.
With the television show scheduled to start shooting this summer, Sony clearly expects a surge of interest in the franchise; after all, The Witcher’s Netflix adaptation boosted sales of CD Projekt RED’s PS4 role-playing release by as much as 544 per cent. It would certainly make sense to give new fans of the franchise an easy entry point – even if those original versions of the game are still available and perfectly playable.
Naughty Dog will likely be working on a new intellectual property as well, but team sizes are enormous these days and it takes time for ideas to gesticulate. Assuming that is what’s happening at the developer, then it’ll need work for the rest of its team to do, otherwise it’ll lose talent through layoffs. Perhaps that’s another reason behind the remake’s existence – even if development did start in San Diego.
As we alluded to earlier, Bloomberg’s article only gives us a small piece of the story, and with Sony reluctant to comment – well, we won’t know the full story until it’s willing to speak. But we can ask a few simple questions while we wait: would you buy a remake for The Last of Us? How much would you be willing to pay? And what kind of changes and improvements would you like to see?

Absolutely, day one.
I'll play it, eventually. But day one? No. For possibly $70? Hell no.
I think there should be a poll option that says "yes, but when it goes on sale".
I have the same feeling about this as I do about Resident Evil four. The game is already so good there’s no point updating it when it can already be played on the current generation.
@Ryall I don't know why, but I keep forgetting that they're remaking RE4. And i feel the same way about that as I do a Last of Us remake.
Can they not remake G-Police instead? Or Colony Wars? I don't feel this needs a remake.
Without a doubt! The original will always be a masterpiece, but a remake with graphics and gameplay upgrades in tlou2 why not? I’m sure there were ideas that developers wanted to put into the original game that didn’t make the cut due to timing and budget so it would be interesting to see what’s added. Perhaps the left behind arc will be fully integrated into the main game. For those worried, I really don’t think there will be any major changes to the plot and characters. But who knows?
Not gonna lie - I don't think it's necessary but I'm pretty sure I'd get it day 1 anyway.
Reluctantly 🙄
Na... zero need to play (or buy) the same game over and over. Especially one that is story based.
Make an Abby DLC or something else new that expands the world
So endless complaints about remakes and remasters during the ps4's life....and now we have remakes and remasters arriving for the ps5..if they are free upgrades then yes by all means..if people are expected to pay full whack then they should really think about it..hard..i just dont understand the need for countless remakes..are studios really struggling that hard to create new ip's...very sad if the ps5 is going to go the same route as the ps4..
The graphics on this were pretty good on the PS4 already, very much diminishing returns doing a remake of this when there are other great games from the PS2 era that could benefit from a facelift.
Absolutely I'd buy it. Really love the game! I'd really like to get it day 1 but I don't want to pay £70 for it. First I need to see what's different about it before I decide how much I'm willing to pay.
For all the people saying "why not?!", Because I'd prefer a new and interesting different game to get the funding and development. It's not the remake that's the problem, but the other game that will never end up being made as a result of this one.
Waste of resources in my opinion. Just played Left Behind from the remaster for the first time this week, and while it's not shiny with lightning and color as newer games it gives it a darker tone that suits it well... Havent played part 2 yet but the remaster didn't feel dated...
When it’s inevitably bundled with TLOU Part II and Factions 2 at launch. Yes, I will absolutely buy it.
Tbh I’ll buy it on it’s own too.
No. I frankly do not see the point of remaking this game now. I'm very inclined to think the recent reports are a load of rubbish
Will be a last of us definitive edition remastered part one and 2 in a bundle and is I've never played either could be a tempting way to get into it if priced right.
No not a chance. I bought a PS5 to play new games not old ones I can already play plus the fact this game was already Remastered makes a Remake completely redundant.
Depends on what they improve + price.
If they only improve graphics to TLOU2 equivalent, I will wait for a big sale.
If they remake the gameplay and even the level design to be closer or equivalent to TLOU2, I'm not sure I'd buy it day one but I'd be very interested.
Then it depends if they choose to bundle it with TLOU2 or sell it alone, and which price they ask. A full £70 with only TLOU1 Remake won't be acceptable imo.
I've played it twice already. It's one of the greatest stories in games coupled with amazing atmosphere, I'm not knocking the game. I would maybeplay it if they gave it out with plus or on deep sale (sub 20 quid) but nowhere near day one
Out of principle hell no, even if it was under $70. The game is perfect as is and I don't want to see one of Sony's best being shackled to working on the same two franchises (if this is true they might as well make Uncharted 5 right after 🙄)
No
Sure, once it drops to $20 or so.
TLOU Remastered plays just fine. I'll wait for it to go on PS Plus. I know the story. Not paying $70 for it again.
I hope it's just a 4k remaster nothing more. Otherwise, tlou is still a great game today and replayed it recently so I don't want to go through that story again atm
That poll is disappointing. Remakes of games released in the last 10 years shouldn’t be encouraged.
Not for me unless it's bundled with a The Last of Us 2 PS5 version similar to the Spiderman MM Ultimate edition.
I don't mind remakes. Loved the Resi 2 remake. Loved FF7 remake.
But the game was literally remastered on PS4, has PS4 Pro improvements, and hold up very well on PS5.
Just seems like Sony trying to cash in on the upcoming TV series.
A complete edition with Left Behind, TLoU, and TLoU2 (probably with Factions) all looking Next-gen.... Of course I'd but that!
Not sure why people are acting like the original couldn't look better. It could.
@zupertramp Our issue is that it already takes forever for games to release and Sony is nowhere near releasing the amount of games they did on the PS3. Yet people are wanting them to waste resources re-releasing a game that’s already remastered? That is a stupid waste of resources vs us getting something new.
I liked the game, but can't see the point of buying it again when there are other, newer, games that I haven't played yet. I think that the only game I ever bought twice was Skyrim; played over 1000 hours, lol.
I'll add it to my library once it becomes a Plus offering, but I doubt I ever play it.
I didn't ask for it or look for it, but I won't say no.
The only thing that made sense to me when I heard the rumour is that maybe they're releasing it alongside the new Factions mode.
Or they're just trying to cash in on the new tv series.
Options were not correct for.
I want to revisit story - but I have a PS3 and a ps4 version we really don’t need to continue this remake games from the last gen thing. It was only needed last gen because of lack of BC. We don’t need remakes of ps4 games at all.
@LieutenantFatman Gpolice bundled with Futercops LAPD. I'd throw £70 at that all day long!
No I wouldn't, it's ridiculous.
I thought the PS3 with its stubborn CELL created all these Remasters and Remakes fashion on PS4. Didn't think the trend would continue on the backwards compatible PS5.
Honestly, no. I've played the game during the PS3 era and played the remastered on PS4 but I never spent too much time with it unlike Persona 5, Ghost of Tsushima, FF7 Remake, Bloodborne and Gravity Rush. It may be Sony's AAA powerhouse but I've never really gotten into the hype for this game. Not saying that it's a bad game but I just decided that it's not for me.
@OmegaStriver Takes time to make something new, though, to be fair. You end up with a lot of artists and programmers with nothing to do while you prototype new IP. Best to keep the team together and set them to work on something, which can be DLC or something like this.
@OmegaStriver Fair. But no one is asking for this. Not that I'm aware. Will I buy it though, I'd be lying if I said no.
And as the article mentions, huge as devs like this are, it's possible this is an interim project to keep people employed.* Used to have that kind of thing happen in pipeline construction so maybe it's applicable here idk.
Edit: *Sammy beat me to it
I’ll play it, and am quite curious to see if it’s a frame for frame remake or if they’ll expand on scenario design to incorporate new mechanics.
I appreciate the article recognizing that Mr. Schreier’s reporting isn’t the whole story. It’s also worth keeping in mind his new book release is around the corner so a blowout story right now feels a little convenient.
TLoU is easily in my top 5 games ever but there's not a chance I'd buy a remake of the game. Bought it twice already, never again.
@Shigurui I could see that kind of thinking. I never owned it on PS3 and Remastered came with my PS4 so I haven't actually ever bought the first one. I forget this could be the 3rd time for some folks.
I’d play it if they made it but I could just as easily replay the original game. It doesn’t need a remake at all.
Seems pointless investing so much time and effort in this when they could invest in ‘Days Gone 2: Days Goner’ instead.
I didn’t vote anyway. There’s no, ‘Yes, but I don’t feel good about it’ option.
I just have an inkling feeling that they’ll mess with the story to make Joel seem less likeable somehow.
Not for me, already bought it twice. The game is fine as is.
I love The Last of Us but I'm currently playing Remastered right now before finally playing Part II. I don't see a need to remake it again so soon, other than riding the wave from the first game and the impending show and Factions release. It all just feels a bit indulgent and unnecessary.
Furthermore, I don't want to support the practice of just remaking games too much. I'm all for games like NieR Replicant, which is a game that would be nearly impossible for me to play and I missed the first time, or even Demon's Souls, as another cult classic, but Last of Us is easily playable on modern hardware and not a game people likely missed out on.
I mean I'm playing FF7remake now, so I guess I'm a bit of a hippocrite, but it barely resembles the original and that was over 20 years ago. This is too soon.
Think they should focus on TLoU2 onwards. Maybe they should make a new fps game, as the last Killzone was out a long time ago. Please do add me for PS5 multiplayer from time to time. HotstuffFred 👍🏻
Its a no for me, dawg
Haven't even played the original one or TLoU2 so I woudn't play that one either
A remake of a remaster for 70 bucks? Count me out, not happening.
As much as I love this game I don’t want to play it a third time. Twice is plenty for a guy like me who rarely replays any game.
Nah. I got the original remaster I can run on my PS4 Pro at like near 4K with 60FPS.
I’m assuming this “remake” would run on the sequels engine/infrastructure. If they did that... I’d still probably skip it. Maybe I’d pick it up for like $20 or $30 if I got really desperate to play the game again down the road. That’s about it.
I know they can be working on multiple projects at once, but I’d really like to see them focus on another Uncharted, or even better, Jak and Daxter! Or something else entirely new. We shall wait and see.
No, but I never replay games I've already completed. The only expectation to this would be if there was an MGS remake or something like that.
Hell no, the game is less than 10 years old plus they put a remastered version out on PS4. This is one of the things wrong with the gaming industry now, but im sure there's some idiots out that that would pay for this game again for a third time.
Please no.
TLOU was good, but let the poor thing rest in peace lol
I'm pretty sure I'll get a PS5 later down the line, but I'm holding pff to see what kind of game they announce; I sure hope Sony doesn't reduce its catalog to UC- and TLOU-style games cause that's not my cup of tea.
Also, this just occurred to me: what's the point of remaking TLOU when the remaster is included for "free" in the PS+ Collection? 😅
Wouldn't that mean that anyone with a PS5 and a passing interest will already have played it by the time it comes out?
We're not talking Wii U ports noone bought here, we're talking following up on a console with 100+ million units sold!
No, all these remakes and games already on PS4 just upgraded to PS5 is why I’m not in a big hurry to get a PS5.
@GZoo Naughty Dog didn't make Killzone, that was Guerilla Games.
No, I've never really been interested in that series.
PS fanboys buy anything, it's the same with Nintendo fanboys.
I love The Last of Us, but what is the point in remake a game that runs so well even on a PS5?
Sony is making the worst decisions and the fanboys can't see that, that's sad.
@shonenjump86 Exactly, there's no point at all in remake The Last of Us 1 lol
Why people still supporting that in 2021?
I would definitely buy a complete edition for PS5, but not sure I’d be in a rush to buy the remake on its own. They’re both fantastic games, to be sure, but there’s just so many fresh games to play out there...
this was the only game i played twice... once upon release and once before #2 came out... so im good here.
Maybe! I just finished the remastered version in March since PS5 is my first PS system in 20 years and wanted to catch up on the classics and was very impressed with the story and gameplay.
If they update it enough with more than just an even shinier coat of paint, I'd revisit it again. Stoked for TLOU2 and picked it up for 50% off.
@zupertramp - It was a day one buy on PS3 and PS4 for me. I've supported this game enough. The remaster on PS Pro still holds up really well, this just feels like a very unnecessary cash grab.
@Kingleo31 That's true ... it's Sony as a whole I'm on about.
I've bought it twice.
Enough already ffs !
Absolutely not, I already have the remaster and it looks and plays perfectly fine as it is. The driving force in the game and Naughty Dog games in general is the story and I've already seen it many times and if I want to replay it then I already can
Hey Sony, while you're at it, go ahead and remake TLOU 2 for crying out loud the games been out what, 5-6 years? Lol y'all some kind of cra cra
I just beat The Last of Us during my Christmas break. I thought the gameplay was so-so, but the story and characters were amazing. I would not play a remake because now I already know the story... and that's what kept me pushing on with the game.
@get2sammyb It's already been remastered. We're getting into surreal territory with a remastered remaster (with additional content no less).
While I enjoy remastered collections in general and admittedly have a few. It's taking a stroll down memory lane in my downtime, but they rarely feel the same and I always leave the game before getting very far in the campaign.
The other issue is they are becoming full-blown games now where prices are skyrocketing to the point that they are now just as much, if not more than a brand new AAA IP. And collector's editions, what?
You want to release a remaster, fine. But let's keep prices reasonable. I know a lot of work goes into working on the remasters but charging anything more than $20-25 is mental.
It really depends on what is done. If it's just a graphical facelift, I will more than likely pass. If there are extensive additions made to the story, then I may consider revisiting it.
@LieutenantFatman g-police please 😁
I just don't understand the appeal of this series and why so many people like it. Zero interest in ever playing one of the games, and I hope that they move on and focus on something else.
No thanks, tlou 2 really soured me on that series, and I'm sure ND will f up this remaster story to make it more like tlou 2..
Of course i would.
And why would the remake release this year? It hasn't even been confirmed, acknowledged, or announced and these are Covid times where games are getting pushed back. It's silly to assume a purely speculative, unannounced game from one of the industry's bigger IP will release this year, just so u can support your argument.
Likely, the speculated game will release in 2022, which would make it nine years between original and Remake. Nearly a decade and multiple generations/several console iterations later. From PS3 to PS4 to Pro to PS5.
Let's be real, the remaster was released a year later strictly because TLOU launched at the tail end of the generation. It acted as a next gen update and has little impact on this remake. The two are completely different entities.
I'm not really sure why nine years would be such an unacceptable time table between original and remake? Shadow of the Colossus had a similar situation, though a longer time between original/remake but a shorter time between remaster and remake. Some moaned when Colossus Remake was announced, but in the end it was among the greatest remakes ever and I'm not sure many ppl still believe it was a mistake. Why would you? It was spectacular and it allowed the classic to reach a new audience. The same will be likely for TLOU Remake as Naughty Dog is apparently handling primary development. So it should be quality through and through. And with the HBO show around the corner I don't see why it wouldn't be enjoyable to relive the origins of the series with cutting edge, next gen tech. Naughty Dog said TLOU Remastered was pivotal in rewiring their engine and learning the PS4 system. It was a huge success. Why can't the remake be similar?
sure, i mean... i still think it's a waste of time and resources but if it ends up being better than the original in every single aspect, why the hell not?
TLoU 1 is one of my favorite games of all time but I have no interest in a remake, it's fine as is.
The only reason i can see for this to be made on ps5 is to promote the TV show and give it away free for ps5 plus users ,i just don't see the point otherwise ,regardless its all hearsay at the minute ,wait and see.
There's no scenario where I see myself buying a remake of a game I already didn't like.
Anyway, TLOU Remastered is fine. Just release a 4K update for that. This project is just a waste of Naughty Dog's time, IMO.
@Ryall Have you played it recently? It’s super outdated. Going from 1 to 2 is night and day from gameplay to mechanics to graphics I played it like 4 months ago and it feels super old & dated could definitely use an update.
I loved the first tLoU, but to be perfectly honest, the sequel kind of made the games not replayable for me. It was a good game, but not the type of story I like to experience multiple times. My tLoU gaming days are behind me, and I don’t really have anymore interest in those stories.
The graphics of TLOU2 isn't a massive leap from TLOU Remastered. It isn't the same with FF7R and RE2 with PS1 era graphic. This project is mostly have to do with TLOU live action. Imagine if Joel's face will resemble Pedro Pascal than the original face model.
Doesn't really need a remake. Judging by how TLOU2 turned out, I have a nasty feeling they'd mess up the story somehow
The only way ND could make me buy this upcoming remake is if they announce an added story DLC expanding the story of Ish
I won’t be personally buying anything more from Naughty Dog until they give me a free upgrade for TLOU2 on my PS5
This is someone who copped the Last of Us 2 PS4 pro edition day 1
I replayed it for the Platinum trophy last year in the run up to TLOU2 and it still holds up. I really don't see the point creatively, but it's easy money so I understand why they would want to make it.
I won't be buying any games new on PS5, so this poll doesn't really have any relevance to me. Switch games new, PS5 secondhand for me this gen. I'm sure I'd play it eventually once I can find it cheap secondhand.
@get2sammyb "... it takes time for ideas to gesticulate."
It would take no time at all if they had hands. I think the word your looking for is "gestate". 😜🤭
@OrigamiCrane Yeah, I worry about what "remake" means exactly. If it's major story and character changes then nah.
Also, is that a Closer gif? 👍
I've bought it twice and been given it multiple times. I have completed it twice. Why tf would I want to buy it yet again?
TLOU was the better game, but I had more FUN playing Days Gone. I'm so pissed they green lit this remake at the expense of Days Gone 2.
Honestly this trend of remasters and remakes is starting to feel insulting. As if we are assumed that gullible to pay for the same game with a fresh coat of paint over and over again. This same trend is only worsening in the movie industry.
Naughty dog hasn't really innovated with their games much since the original uncharted. There is no way I'm paying full price for a remaster of tlou, nor will I buy tlou2 full price for the PS5. I bought the game and held off playing it assuming they would at the very least have an upgrade path on PS5. To see them potentially holding out for another cash grab just solidifies my inclination to avoid their games until they innovate.
If we continue to give them money for recycled cash grabs, we will continue to see this nonsense, along with growing live service garbage.
Not gonna be part of the problem with my wallet vote.
The only way I could see this making any kind of sense is if they combine parts 1 and 2 together to form a more three dimensional story that flows together better. Otherwise, I can’t fathom the point could be.
I voted no, but thats not because I don't want to play it again I just don't think Sony need to be remaking games that are playable on the most current system
I voted no. I liked Last of Us and Last of Us 2, but they were both 8/10 for me, so it seems unnecessary
I very rarely replay games. I bought and played this on PS3, loved it. Will probably never play through it again. Although I will play the PS4 version of #2 when I can get it really cheap.
I would play it but would i buy it probably not till it was on sale or ps+.
I can understand a remake of a PS1 game like final fantasy 7. ps3 games just need the remaster treatment which last of us already had and thats all it needs
I love the game, but given the choice of a remake or Days Gone 2 I'd prefer the latter 😎 while your at it patch Drive Club and give us a sequel 🙂
I always enjoy revisiting the story if TLOU. However I have a feeling the story will be changed in the remake to go along with what ever they do for the HBO series.
really Sony that you are making a remake of The Last of Us?when Sonistas can play it remaster on PS4/PS5 why not remake a Jak e Dexter game istead?
Hhhmmm tough one. By the time this gets released (assuming a 4 year dev cycle) then it would have been 12/13+ years since the original released. So a decent amount of time has passed, however TLOU1 still stands up today compared to modern games. TLOU2 didn’t reinvent the gameplay.
Sony aren’t being adventurous with creating or supporting high cost new IP’s but then if consumers only purchase remakes and remasters then they’re playing it safe and guaranteeing sales.
With all the IP’s that Xbox just bought and all the potential sequels is Sony being safe or scared?
Demon's Souls made sense because it was truly PS3 exclusive, but remaking a game that already has a remaster and is perfectly playable on PS5 makes this stink of trying to cash in on the upcoming TV series.
Rather than actual artistic creativity.
Seems like a massive waste of time to me. Come on first Ratchet and Clank (I have only because it was free with ps+ collection, same with LoU Remastered) was remade when there was the perfectly playable ps3 HD version but now we're getting a remake of a game that was already remastered for ps4 and is perfectly playable and looks good still? If you're doing a remake for ps5 it should at least be a game that hasn't been remastered for ps4 and is of ps3 gen or (preferably) previous.
@Slippship I'd take that.
The remaster was decent enough.
I would rather see naughty dog create something else
No...i wouldn´t buy a remake from a remaster from a recent game.
Nope.
I think the PS4 Pro Remaster Patch is plenty good enough for now. Quite frankly not interested in the slightest.
A variety of games insures everyone gets something they want. The purchase is a option, most games sell to well under 10% of PlayStation owners! I don't think it coming any time soon maybe 2-3 years from now I will want to play it again.
Give me DAYS GONE 2 instead.
@zupertramp @get2sammyb
Sounds like failure with management. When you are close to finishing a project in this field, what’s next should already be in the pipeline. They shouldn’t ever have a ton of downtime that leads to working on something just to work.
Do we really need a remake of a remaster of a game that has a sequel????
Last of Us: The Complete Saga incoming with PS5 versions of TLoU1 and 2 with Factions 2 bundle .... for maybe $60.*
*the above is pure speculation
Hell no! The game is only 8 years old and had a Ps4 version that was perfect. Especially after the trash that was TLOU 2. With egomaniac, uberwoke, sjw Neil Druckmann at the helm, I can only imagine what awful changes he plans to make. I have been a playstation afficionado since 1995 and their choices of late have got me very concerned. They seem to only care about one thing now and that is making as much money as possible, regardless of how it is achieved. They don't care if they dilute what makes the playstation ecosystem a special place to play by putting a ton of their games on Pc, Mobile, or making every franchise into a movie or tv show. And now it seems they have no interest in producing smaller to medium experiences, only monster productions. I like those games, but doing just that is boring. If they can't see that art has intrinsic value even if it doesn't make a ton of money then they are truly lost. Jim Ryan really is terrible. All he cares about is the bottom line. They have also seem to have forgotten that being a Japanese company is an asset. I am really missing Shuhei Yoshida and Shawn Layden right now. I can't stand the xbox brand and would never buy an xbox. It looks like I might have to do retro gaming more if Sony doesn't wisen up.
Nope, not even remotely interested, and I say that as someone who enjoys both TLoU and TLoU 2.
I want a new IP from Naughty Dog already. It's been far too long.
Nope. Tired of the series and the zombie theme altogether
I would play it 100% but I would rather have this in 3 or 4 years' time I wanted Days Gone 2 more.
I’ll play it when they give it to you on PS+ just like I got the remastered in my PS4
There are so many Sony gems from the PS1/PS2 era that really need a remake. This is just an add for the tv show and an opportunity to change the story. Buy The Last of Us Remaster Remake now 40% more woke.
why, it's a narrative driven game, I already enjoyed it thanks, waste of time
Yes, because it was one of the greatest games I ever played.
But I will not purchase a PS5 specifically to play it. I am not interested to purchase a ps5 to play games released almost a decade ago (GTA V and LOU).
And I will most certainly not purchase it first hand or at a premium, given the absolute repugnant story of the second installment and the brazen media coverage and support that it got from 'media houses', this site included.
Which makes me wonder. Is this being done to cover some of the damage that the second title did?
I'm so glad I paid 450 quid for a console made by a company that said they believed in generation's, only to make a bunch of cross gen games like miles morales and horizon (and maybe even the new god of war) and remakes of old gen games like demon souls and last of us. Instead of new exciting experiences that need a ps5 to run on for reasons other than slightly better graphics.
No. I have my second hand copy on PS3, free ps plus copy on PS4 and there is no need for another.
Poll should have a 'No, I do want to revisit the story but I don't need to buy a remake as I've already bough it twice' option.
Current options seem a little...skewed.
@pip_muzz Absolutely. We're getting this but not Days Gone 2?!? Sony gone barmy. Even an Uncharted Drakes Fortune remake would have been a thousand times more exciting.
I have two copies of the game already, one for PS3 the other for PS4. I would not consider a PS5 version. However, if i saw it for $5 U.S. dollars or less, i would buy it.
Sometimes it feels like we are recycling the same IPs over and over. What about something from the back catalog? A property that has laid dormant for multiple console generations? I know it may seem more risky then picking Last of Us but there are a ton of options for new remakes.
The reason to buy the ‘other’ console is getting closer and closer...... I am a big PS fan but Sony is losing it!
@CarlosR87 If they rather remake God of War 1 and 2
I would love more remakes like spyro trilogy or mafia 1. there is absolutely no need remake for a game that is like 8 years old. I wish they would actually remake s.o.c.o.m or killzone 1 and 2
I would not. I am really tired of remakes/remasters and just want some new PS5 games. I'll take sequels, but I'm hungry for some new IP's.
I DON'T want Sony to treat the PS5 in the same way Nintendo does with the Switch...Nintendo is literally just upgrading their old games for the Switch or retooling their Wii U catalog for the Switch while Nintendo fans are screaming for new games. We're excited for new games Sony! Maybe do the retooling of old games later in the PS5's life cycle when there's tons of new great games in the pipeline with the PS4 dead.
@CarlosR87 Hmmm I don't like new GoW mechanics. First two GoWs were maybe simple, but very enjoyable. And not so schizophrenic as this new one.
Had enough of the same GTA being released on various generations. Enough is enough. New games please.
It’s not that a remake wouldn’t be great, it’s that it’s unnecessary. It’s too soon to remake something that still to this day looks amazing. The controls may be a bit dated by today’s standards, but we really don’t need this at all.
It’s not even a question for me. One of my favorite games of all time and I would love to see how great TLoU can look utilizing the capabilities of the PS5. I trust Naughty Dog to deliver a jaw-dropping remake of this classic.
Not really.i play. And beat ps3 version.never beat the ps4 version.so i might buy it.but hopefully they have new stories chapter on the ps5 version.word up son
No option for: what's the effing point.
But it's one of my all time favourites so who am I kidding? I'll probably buy it day one and cry into my morning porridge because I hate myself.
Also, the idea of gesticulating ideas was amusing to me. Didn't realise Naughty Dog implemented the policy that all ideas must be expressed in International Sign Language.
in a heartbeat
no, no NOOO. TLOU ps4 remaster looks amazing still. since when did we worry about remaking games that are less than even 10 years in age? what the hell is sony thinking in wasting all the time and resources on a remake NOBODY asked for? i knew sony was begining to get out of touch, but this is a whole other level of stupidity. naughty dog should be working on a new IP and flex its creative muscles instead of wasting its time on a legacy game that is prefect the way it is. demon's souls remake was more understandable due to being held hostage to the aging ps3 and allowing a new generation of sony gamers to experience the title, but last of us remake has no reason to exist! stick to remakes of PS1 and PS2. for the love of god, many of us would rather see a syphon filter or legend of dragoon remake... or how about ape ecape? sly cooper and jak and daxter re-imagining/remake would be cool as well.
No, if you’re going to remake something don’t waste your time on something that’s already released on your previous two consoles already. The Remaster for PS4 is already more than good enough to play.
Remember when we all thought Last of Us looked amazing? Erm... All they can do is improve the graphics. And they aren't out of date yet. Is ray tracing really that big a deal?
Pointless remake we have already played last of us to death , id rather a days gone 2
Sony is DEFINITELY taking pages out of nintendos playbook. First the closure of virtual storefronts and removal of games. Now remaking a game from 2 console gens ago...i mean besides demon souls. Like others have stated, there are plenty of games from that gen, that could use some love and care.
Also, they remastered spiderman under two years, without an option to upgrade without paying $70+. If GoW doesnt get a free upgrade, but a "remastered" edition for ps5 at full price, I'll be upset.
I think this is not really a question of would fans or owners of the current versions be willing to buy a remake. It’s going to function the same as the remaster did right at the beginning of the PS4 cycle. Here is a shiny version of a masterpiece to play on your new machine. It also makes huge business sense from the perspective of the HBO show. I would not be shocked by a remaster/remake of Uncharted 4 before the movie. In the end, it’s strictly business and it’s worth remembering that.
You should have included the voting option: "Nah, I'll wait for it to be a "monthly free PS+" game"
if i wana go back to that mess il pop my ps4 disk in 😂😂😂😂
I think its better to remake uncharted 1 to 3 with new engine for ps5, with new gameplay
Nope
Like I said elsewhere I can't shake the feeling it's all about ND obsession with deconstructing the original story. If real that remake is pointless. It feels like a satirical bad dream. Better spend their time working on a new IP
Loved that game the first time through when it came out. Tried to play it again when it came with my PS4 and couldn’t be bothered. It’s a great one time game. So a remake is useless for me.
If it was a fully interactive PSVR2 game, yes.
Otherwise the game still looks & plays good in its current remastered state so unless it’s improved even more than TLOU2, then why bother?
I'll pass, but I'll get it as a psn game some day
I don't think anyone wanted this, but it is one of the greatest game of all time(imo), so of course I'll buy it. I would have rather Naughty Dog work on a new IP than revisit TLOU or Uncharted.
Absolutely not. Please do not waste manpower and resources on this and make something new.
@Dragonaged Same thing for me.
I love the game , I'll really enjoy doing it again on PS5 with top knotch graphics.
No but I didn’t buy it for the ps4 either. Now it’s in my library from ps plus but I still have no interest in the title.
If I was into it, I’d look forward to it.
I own it on PS3 and PS4 I wouldn't pay more than $20 or $30 for a remake.
No. They could make a 3rd game instead.
I own it for PS3 and didn't get the PS4 remake, so probably not?
But then I rarely ever replay games, if you do then it's no bad thing. It's more for people new to the franchise though, they can pick up the first and second game as PS5 editions, which would be cool.
I'll avoid this after Part 2. There's absolutely no need for a remake anyway. It seems all gamers are interested in now is unnecessary remakes and remasters
No sick of remakes want new games .then we be expected to pay 70 pounds for it no thank you
Yes I would. Just like I upgraded the original Star Wars trilogy from VHS to DVD, then DVD to Bluray and inevitably when I get the 4K versions, I will similarly upgrade my favourite game. I'll just wait until its a more reasonable price.
Can we stop asking for old games to be remade on new consoles? Isn't it way better to have new games with new stories, new mechanics? Have we bought a new console to play a 2013 game we've already played?
I played the game on release and again on the tun up to TLOU2, Which i’m sure many fan will have done as well. So a remake sees quite premature to say the least.
There are so many games on my list of shame that I own that I have yet to put any time into. Despite TLOU probably being the best game I played in the past decade, I don't want to go back personally. How it made me feel was incredible for a video game. I'd like to keep that memory, give time to titles I'm yet to start or finish that I've spent hard earned money on. Too many games, not enough time.
@Daveuppercut do you want to sell it then? Buy an Xbox with zero new games instead?
As for this question, no I won't be buying it. I really liked it (love Part II, it's even better imo) and plan on playing it again but I don't need a remake.
Make more sense remaking a Silent Hill or MGS than a game that only came out in 2013. Hell, I'd understand a big shiny remake of the first BioShock over the unnecessary remake of The Last of Us. Let Naughty Dog off the leash Sony! Give them free reign to create something new!
I'm also gutted about there being no Days Gone 2. Maybe the situation will change if it sells well on PC. Can't believe I'm saying this but now I hope it does as that could be the only way fans of the original will see a sequel.
I love that game for the dialogue and character arks. Don’t see any real need to remake it.
They should better do a new game. Or a remake of Jak and Daxter.
@KundaliniRising333 You claim to be insulted by remakes and remasters then claim you won't pay full price for one if released on PS5. But then state you have paid full price for a PS4 game and not played it due to waiting for an assumed PS5 upgrade, which lets call it what it is. A remaster, something which apparently insults you! Just play the game and move on, looked stunning on my base PS4. Waiting for a so called free upgrade for a different system is just adding to the problem.
Day one i know they release quality games.
@Jeanhenry I agree its a stupid reason you buy a PS4 and act like they have too give you a upgrade.
No absolutely not! The original game is a masterpiece, I bought it on PS3 and PS4, but TLOU2 had some of the worst woke PC agenda filled writing I’ve seen. Now I can handle the woke PC stuff, but the story was pure utter garbage and completely failed in is inconsistent message, the result of Druckman having complete control I fear, so I full expect him to ruin any ‘remake’ they make just to milk the cash cow, and Sony should be utterly ashamed of themselves for such a cheap act.
In fact as it seems to have rejected a Days Gone 2 proposal, for a TLOU remake because it ‘reviewed better’ is an insult to the entire gaming community and Sony’s board should be lining up bowing apologising to the community over this mistake! Like they did when their crap security was breached on the PSN.
Sony have lost their minds and fully floated of to the land of arrogance.
@Matute According to recent reports that’s exactly what Sony thinks...
A great game about tween angst, and a sequel with more teen angst. No thanks. Once was more than enough.
Yes, especially if it's more a reimagining that perhaps ties in better with the sequel and the direction of the upcoming show. Now, if it is just native 4k60 in TLOU2's engine, no rt or anything special done to it and it cost more than $30, no I wouldnt buy it.
Day one, day one, day one!
So, yes. 😍😍
Yeah I'm part of the problem.
I strongly believe this remake is utterly unecessary, but I honestly will buy it day one, since it's my favorite game.
If I want to play TLoU again, I have an excellent remaster to play that was done in-house. I don't need a remake.
“ and it takes time for ideas to gesticulate”
I...think you mean “gestate.” VERY different.
@Col_McCafferty
Why would I sell a ps5 which is lacking in genuine next gen games and then buy an Xbox which is lacking in genuine next gen games?
I am assuming the third option in the vote is "Nope, it was a great game but I don't need to buy it again to play it again - its works just fine on BC".
Looking at it now its graphics are ropey, even in the remaster (don't get me started on remasters, con con con) - but I don't think they are ropey enough to merit a RE2 style ground up remake.
So no, best left where it is imho.
I hear they are changing the story and characters to fit with the in development Tv series.
An incredible game....let's leave it there. I've paid for it day 1 ps3, day 2 PS4 remake....Sony can piss off if they think I am buying it again....no matter how good it looks.
Nope. I have no interest in playing it again. I'd be more interested in a days gone 2.
What's the point the PS4 version still looks good!
I know they would like to package both games in time for the TV series which would bring in new audience who would benefit from the newer game visuals.
Remaster the remaster ? Oh geez. Sick of this trend. Can we just continue moving forward please
Yes, it's one of my favorite PS3/PS4 games.
It's still perfectly playable to this day, the remaster is all you need.
No I would not.
I love TLoU, but geez, a remake of a remake? Or should I say remaster of a remaster? Either way, what a colossal waste of time and resources.
Sony's push for more (Jim Sterling voice) AAA games, and less experimental or niche games has me really worried. I love AAA games, but I dont want every damn game to be AAA.
I feel Sony is starting to regain its PS3 launch days arrogance again, and that won't end well.
Besides, I'd much rather have a PS4/PS5 remaster of the Resistance Trilogy over a game that was already upgraded once before.
@OrigamiCrane yeah if it's a tv show tie-in I'm not really interested. I wouldn't mind them actually showing Abby's dad but really wouldn't be too keen on too many alterations. Fwiw I don't think they'd show Abby since that kind of gives up the plot a little on Part II.
Guess we'll see.
Closer was a brutal watch for me, going through a break-up, but I loved every minute of it. "Because I'm a f-ing caveman!" Classic.
What is Joel going to murder everyone in the hospital to get to Ellie, and then realize killing is rude and leave?
The graphics are still nice, the gameplay remains great... It's most likely a limited budget effort to ride on the release of the TV show.
Personally, if this is true, I'll wait until it comes with PS Plus.
Absolutely zero interest
I don’t feel the question/poll is nuanced enough.
Would I buy it, probably yeah... eventually!
But would I buy it day 1 at full price, likely no.
@Ryall who's forcing you to buy it?
The Demon's Souls remake was welcome because it was only ever released on PS3, and from what I've read, doing a straight port was problematic because of the hardware it was built for (ditto MGS4), so being able to play it on a current gen console made sense.
TLOU1 was released at the tail end of the PS3's life and was quickly remastered for PS4, so it's already perfectly playable on PS5. Unless they're going to completely redo it with extra story points and new characters, a la FF7R (and even then I'd be a bit iffy about it), I really don't see the point.
I'm fearful that ND has run out of steam. They released a sequel to a game that didn't need to and in the process of doing so they made it either a controversial mess or a half bake contrived collection of poorly written scenes depending on who you ask. Most of us have moved on since TLoU and the noise over TLoU2. TLoU2 pretty much killed any excitement I have even the first game as the second one just sticks in my head. I just don't feel any reason to care about a Remake even if the transition is like Shadow of Colossus on PS4 from BluePoint.
Which begs the quest, why is ND handling this and not say BluePoint, the masters of remakes and remasters? Maybe they don't see a point in working on such a pointless project.
Seriously I'd take a Remake of Uncharted over TLoU, at least there I can understand it. Even then, I'm not really looking at games that were masters of execution and remastered once already over a new IP, new sequel, and more importantly titles that deserve or need the love more than any of ND's post Uncharted titles.
If I end up getting this, it'll likely be through PS+. Even then, htere is no guaranty I'll even take time out of my day to play it. It was worth one good play through, subsequent play throughs just really aren't worth it. It's a one and done. Unlike Uncharted.
I want a gritty remake of Jumping Flash
Y'all are really willing to pay full price for recycled minimal effort stuff like this? This has out-of-touch executives looking to cash in written all over it. And they'll keep doing it if people are gullible enough to pay for it.
Just think. A new IP, potentially your next favorite game, might be on the cutting room floor just so some sad weeb can play TLOU Remake: Remastered for the 54th time. After the woke crap they pulled on the sequel, people should really be up-in-arms over this. But there's more sheeple than people, unfortunately.
