Returnal: How to Get Into the House

How do you get inside the House in Returnal on PS5? How do you unlock the door to the House? As part of our Returnal guide, we're going to tell you how to get into the mysterious House that shows up throughout the game. If you intend to get the Platinum Trophy for Returnal, you'll need to gain access to the House for two Trophies. Returnal: How to Get Into the House

When you first come across the House in the Overgrown Ruins, you'll be able to approach it, but you can't get inside. Upon closer inspection, it turns out the front door is locked. To get inside, you'll need the House Key item.

Where to Find the House Key in Returnal

From our experience, we came across the House several times before we could get inside, with no hints as to where to find the House Key. However, have some patience — the game will eventually give you the item.

So, what do you have to do to earn the House Key? Again, from our time with the game, we were able to find the House Key after defeating Phrike, the first boss in Returnal. After we had beaten this boss and taken our first steps in Crimson Wastes, we were able to find the House Key on the next run. See the left image above — we've circled where we found it. To be clear: Defeat Phrike and continue your run as usual. The next run in which you find the House, search the area for the House Key. It's easy enough to spot — it has a blue/purple glow, and will be basically right ahead of you as you enter the area, as shown above.

Once you have obtained this House Key, you can unlock the House door and go inside.
