Well, they shut down their big Japanese studios, don't take creative risks anymore, and don't have quirky unique little games coming out. Maybe instead of relying strictly on marketing they focus more on increasing the output of AA budgeted games.
@Slayer25c honestly, this person has to be either someone who has never matured or a child. It doesn't matter that it's great "for streaming" - they've drastically increased the price so streaming to a Portal should be the installed value you get, not a change from getting classic titles as promised originally. I don't stream games and I love my retro stuff.. I cancelled Premium after my first year and so far I feel like I've missed nothing. In fact, because there are so few it's probably cheaper for me to buy the retro titles I want instead of subbing
Not going to lie - this sounds like hell. There's nothing I hate more than watching these events, it's just back to back trailers. In fact it probably does more harm than good in some cases - a lot of the games end up blending together and it really shows just how similar every single video game trailer is cut.
@Kidfunkadelic83 You're not okay clapping cheeks but are perfectly fine with graphically murdering hundreds of enemies with your bare hands? Something's definitely messed up in society
@KoopaTheGamer This is exactly what I don't want on a console. The appeal is gaming on the couch, no setup, games "just work". Choosing graphics, performance, or mixed settings is good enough for me.
I want Xbox to have exclusives, hard hitting awesome ones, what I don't want it a PC hooked up to my TV where I have to toggle individual settings for each game, occasionally get a mouse and keyboard out, etc. Waste of time.
This idea making it all the way to public testing highlights how far PlayStation has fallen. Really hope Xbox manages some sort of comeback and shows them up.
What's even worse is that they're pushing an all digital future - everyone who thinks that's great is what's ruining things and this pricing... choice highlights why. At least I can go buy most games used for a great price on eBay.
@HRdepartment this is why competition is so, so important. I'll never trash Epic for their lawsuit against Apple, I wish Xbox would rise up and be a true challenger again, and I miss hard hitting high quality console exclusives on different platforms.
So Capcom experimented significantly with RE7 and brought back the series with that gamble. Then they do proper gorgeous looking remakes (which surely had to have been cheaper than a new title but obviously still expensive) which earns a ton of goodwill and press. Then they continue on with Village, RE4 remake, and now 9 has smashed their sales records.
Honestly, the company has earned this. They've really done a good job of building up the consumer trust over several years. And that RE Engine is a breath of fresh air in a world filled with UE.
Unbelievable how WB ***** up Mortal Kombat. I really hope they survive the ***** shouldbeillegalsale and are able to make a proper Mortal Kombat game without the shoehorned micro transactions. The game was such a cash grab rush job and the series has gotten worse every single year because of it when fundamentally there is a great game underneath.
Also glad to see Capcom doing well. There was a period in the 2000s I think where they did absolutely nothing, then released Mega Man 9 out of nowhere and it seems they've been hitting it out of the park ever since. And the RE Engine is beautiful.
I said it on another post but when Jaffe is t being unbelievably unbearable with obnoxious attention grabbing attitudes, he's kind of usually pretty right. He's not just saying that the image looks ridiculous, he's also saying as a first image, if you knew nothing of God of War it's kind of meh.
I would love to get one, and there's no way I will if there isn't more support. It's also a shame the games on the prior headset aren't playable on the new one.
I wish they'd add back the game titles in text form and allow an easy, searchable way to browse your entire digital library whether on console, phone or website. Honestly boggles the mind why they've removed the first one (at the very least, accessibility with the text), and the second is just ridiculous especially considering Sony pushing the digital future hard.
I played Hit & Run for the first time since launch back in September. Upscaled, smooth 60, and you know what? The game hasn't aged that well. It's still fun, Springfield is amazing, but the moment to moment gameplay is extremely dated.
Still excited for this!! I'd just expect the same reaction to it as when they remastered that SpongeBob game (also good)
@White_oyster agree 100%. Mattrick destroyed the Xbox brand by stupidly trying to make Xbox an everything machine, and when Spencer came in he had a huge hurdle to overcome which was just impossible. This isn't to say he didn't make some massive mistakes, but it became very obvious when the decisions started coming from the top and he was just the mouthpiece. Him and Bond constantly contradicting things, seeming disconnected from what they were saying, and eventually just staying quiet in general.
This man's name keeps popping up with every single failure. He needs to be fired, it's embarrassing and it's not just souring the brand but he's also costing everyone their jobs and livelihoods with his ***** decision making skills.
@clvr ratings mean something but not everything. It's the details in the reviews themselves that matter, but people seem to forget this. Some of the games I've enjoyed the most are critically derided - but a lot of the criticisms of those games are things I personally enjoy or don't mind
This is dumb - I shouldn't have to play through an entire game to play coop with someone. Awful design choice in the modern age. Should've had unlockable costumes, or some sort of epilogue chapter, something cool and fun that has no impact on my personal choice of solo/coop
Jaffe has always been a favourite developer of mine even for games that weren't actually good. He's always been outspoken, a lot of it on his show is for .. show, and he has a ton of opinions I disagree with or think are just downright stupid.
But he knows his game development - the best parts of the show are when he's talking about what mechanically makes a game food for audiences, or readability, or work roles. When he played GoW 2018 he talked a lot about a poor design choice and why it was one. And on one of his games he discussed the mistake of him having too much control and highlighted the importance of a good producer and how vital it is to have them balance out the creative mind.
All of that to say that while I hate his outbursts and complaints, he really does have a very good insight into things when he's being serious. Sadly though his stupidity makes the news..
@Exerion76 not sure why you've gotten upvotes on this when it encapsulates the problem with digital games - you want to buy a game years after a system is out but you have a digital system and with no warning you suddenly can't.
Not a John Wick fan and I think Keanu is a very... bland one note actor but this game looks fun. Glad they didn't show story or anything other than action - looking forward to going into this blind
This game was amazing. Spider-Man 2 somehow BADLY dropped the ball. I played once for the platinum so obviously that's me skipping out from the main story and doing side quests and collectibles which can break up the flow (although I didn't have this problem in the first game?) but when I did NG+ and just focused on the story it really wasn't cohesive.
First Spider-Man though? One of the best and riskiest original Marvel stories in video games. They really took the characters and redefined them beautifully.
@LifeGirl it's not free, it's part of the subscription.
I really don't understand everyone defending the decision to not include them? Surely people believe a multi billion dollar company can support this. The inconsistency is not great, especially when the classics are tagged as PS4/PS5 - which in itself is silly to have both
See guys that really feels like an excuse so there's one less hurdle for devs to overcome. The entire point is that if you're paying a premium price you should get the full benefits. There are other ways to offset the trophy cost - look at Xbox and their backwards compatibility team (not for achievements obviously but for the effort dedicated).
PlayStation makes a lot of money. They can afford to support this. Instead they've raised the prices of subscriptions and lowered the value received 🤷♂️
I still don't understand why Sony, who was so strict about trophies soon after the PS3 launch, refuses to have them added at launch to premium titles. Doesn't seem very "premium" to me.
There are really only two still running MMOs I'd love to see on console.
World of Warcraft, which has been (honestly rightfully for today's age) dumbed down in every way so would probably work well on console
Star Wars: The Old Republic, which we'll never see, but is actually a fantastic game if you don't mind it being a WoW clone. Really good class stories at least in the base game.
FFXIV is a great MMO but I find it so overwhelming on console to play, can't navigate or even read the menus and there's just too much in it to understand as a newbie
The PS4 Pro was a great price point and had the impact of 4k gaming. I would love higher quality graphics or loading or anything really, would sell my launch PS5 to get this, but it's way too expensive. And to pay extra for a disc drive is disgusting - especially as if you get a digital console Sony is automatically making at least that 30% cut on anything you want to play. You'd think that would subsidize the costs a bit.
Genuinely curious - how many people actually use this kind of digital content, or listen to the soundtracks? I can't see myself ever utilizing either while in-game because if I need a guide I'll use my phone or tablet just because it's easier. Maybe I'm just old 🤷♂️
The soundtracks and stuff also - kind of nice for a gimmick I guess if you're able to listen while playing other games like NFS or something but it's so niche
@ShogunRok It also got me to watch the abridged Dragon Ball Z Kai or whatever it's called! Except I knew everything that happened because the game was so good at speeding through the major plot beats.
Maybe I should revisit the show, I only watched up to the Buu saga.. which I think is also where the base game ended maybe
This game was my introduction to Dragon Ball Z, I never cared for it on TV growing up despite my friends being huge into the show. I just thought it would be a fun an easy platinum and I was shocked at how into the story I was!!!
My one complaint, as a trophy hunter with limited time, is that the DLC didn't have any trophies attached. This is the only game where I wish it had trophies so I could justify the purchase, but rightly or wrongly I use trophies to gauge when to move into the next game so I can keep up with my backlog.
If they retroactively added them though I'd be all over that!
Anthem. One of the funnest games I've played 100% online with to the platinum, one of the worst most aimless stories I've played, and one with the most potential. I read Schreier's book (I believe it was in his book!) which covered the development of this game and it's just sad, those talented developers knew exactly how to make a third person online shooter feel great and terrible management and corporate meddling ruined it.
I'm sure it's deeper than that, but I definitely had a lot of fun. All the credit to EA in the current gaming environment (of the past decade) though for keeping the servers around as long as they did but it's a shame.
@Flaming_Kaiser Moneywise? Maybe. But I actually love the remakes. I love traditional JRPGs, especially sprite-based ones, but I think Remake and Rebirth are some of the more brilliant games I've played.
That being said, Rebirth could shed 60+ hours of pointless content. But I wouldn't want it to go the Clair Obscura route at all
Eh this is fine, you don't have to use it, it'll 100% block trophies from being earned, and for the casual player this will most likely encourage them to finish a game despite a potential difficultly spike or something. I'm all for this.
P5R revived a love for JRPGs that I didn't even know used to exist, and it still stands out as one of the best games I've ever played - it was so addictive that when I went on holiday I bought a Vita just to play P4G so I can get my fix. And then I got every trophy in those and P3R too.
P5R though could have easily saved 30 hours by not having the characters recap the entire story or current objective every few conversations. Was incredibly boring, and I was reading every single line. I think, without changing what they are fundamentally, a good traditional JRPG can be around 50 hours long, maybe do something more than the static talking head that appears every time a character talks, and double down on making the characters and story stand out.
I know consumer sentiment has changed, but remember those weird Japanese games that always made their way to the west and were almost always PlayStation? I miss that. Doubt they'd sell well now or even be budget-reasonable sadly
A FIFA-branded football management simulator could be really nice on a touchscreen, maybe even bordering on how fantasy football works. Netflix also doesn't have microtransactions which would make it super appealing on mobile.
An ACTUAL football game by an untested(?) developer on mobile sounds horrible
Lots of negative comments. First off, we're subscribing to a service and trophies were "mandated" in the PS3 era for every title - except apparently when it comes to premium titles, the ones from the most expensive tier. As someone who loves trophies, that's the reason for me to go back sometimes (for extended periods of time) - the game is fun but there are a ton of fun games, however trophy goals to have in my profile are a good excuse to clean it up. Otherwise I'll play another game I really want to play.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that if you're subscribing to a top tier of service you'd expect the games on it to have all the bells and whistles regardless of whether it's Sony first party or not.
god i miss E3. Every developer/publisher having their own thing, trailers coming out at a clip over days, journalists meeting the developers in person and testing out the games, giving great previews. The way they do these things now sucks - hour of game trailers and awkwardness.
When everyone decided to skip the in-person events is when a bit of the gaming industry's soul chunked off and died.
I really, really wish I could get into this type of game but I think I'm just too dumb. I tried out Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition for the first time on my PS5 last week and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to position and control all of the characters. They each have spells and abilities and I got them, but I spent 20 minutes just grouping up on enemies and everyone bashing them with weapons.
Anyone have any advice? Because I'd LOVE to get into all of this.

Otherwise I'll play another game I really want to play.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that if you're subscribing to a top tier of service you'd expect the games on it to have all the bells and whistles regardless of whether it's Sony first party or not.
Re: Free-to-Play FPS Highguard Closes Out The Game Awards, Coming to PS5 on 26th January
god i miss E3.
Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Dev Announces New Divinity RPG, Its 'Biggest Game Ever'
I really, really wish I could get into this type of game but I think I'm just too dumb. I tried out Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition for the first time on my PS5 last week and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to position and control all of the characters. They each have spells and abilities and I got them, but I spent 20 minutes just grouping up on enemies and everyone bashing them with weapons.
Anyone have any advice? Because I'd LOVE to get into all of this.
