Can't wait to pick this up. Dying for a classic JRPG adventure that won't take me a year to beat. I don't get this vibe from the game but I'd especially love to play a dark stereotypical world ending JRPG story
Serious question: does anyone actually buy strategy guides or soundtracks digitally on consoles to use them? I couldn't think of a scenario where I'd do that over just using my phone and googling.
I couldn't even imagine balancing fighting games. All of the characters, trying to appeal to casual fans who drive up the sales so you can turn a nice profit, also catering to the pros at the same time to keep the game alive as long as possible and also in the public eye.
Totally unrelated but a random unlocked memory, the second fighting game I ever played (I'm counting MK2 and UMK3 as one game...) was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition which was horribly unbalanced and so much fun. We'll never get games like that anymore...
I've always liked the Digimon anime more than Pokemon, it was more teenager-y with the angst and the drama and the constant looming of the end of the world, the friends having disagreements over how to fix things, and the overall loneliness of being ripped away from your parents and placed in a strange world where everything is trying to kill you.
The games sucked though, I've never liked any of them until Cyber Sleuth - it was pretty good, not my top game but addictive and, well, Digimon. Stopped halfway through and years later picked up Digimon Survive which I did not realize was grid based or a visual novel but the story was so, so good! Loved it. Glad to see the series doing great but I would love to see a bigger budget proper open world RPG in the style of the anime.
@get2sammyb Yes and no, they're also slowly corraling everyone into their ecosystem where there's 0 competition to purchase. Don't you remember when you could at the very least walk into a store and buy a digital game card? They did away with that years ago - now you can only buy PSN credit or a PS+ card, and buy on their digital store that has no competition.
Yes they still have physical games thankfully. But they're taking a different route of anti-consumerism.
Cannot wait. I don't know how similar in quality or not it'll be to Gears, but I'm having an absolute blast with that. If it is at least similar in quality then I cannot wait to jump back into that first game. First FPS I've ever played where the story actually gripped me. And similar to Gears I have a feeling that it's one of the few games that will hold up just as well as my nostalgia is telling me.
@Toot1st That's a shame. Remasters are great. New IPs are great too, but given how insanely long it takes for a lot of developers to create new games I'm happy with the drip feed of remasters to keep things moving along... and who knows? Maybe they'll be granted a budget for Prototype 3
If this was listed at £30 it's day one for me. Dynasty Warriors 3 brings back some very sentimental memories with a friend who's been gone for over 15 years.
Putting that entire bit aside because it is definitely not relevant, Dynasty Warriors 3, 4 and 5 were excellent, but the series really lost the fun connection I had to specific characters once they made nearly all weapons available to everyone.
@themightyant It sounds like this is strictly due to logistics. I can't even imagine how much of a headache it must be for companies trying to navigate the tariff landscape, from the purchasers to the suppliers and every company in between that facilitates this stuff.
Game is going to be awesome - not only does it look great it's obviously led by a team of people who truly appreciate the IP.
My non-gaming girlfriend found this hilarious and she's 100% right. You pay £70 or whatever for the game, then you invest all of the time to get x trophy ("engagement" which has a tangible value for Sony), then you earn the ability to pay $30 for a t-shirt. If they actually cared about their audience it would be a reasonable price, but it feels a bit like exploiting your hardcore fans. Just sell this as normal merch!
Just a painful reminder that PlayStation used to take risks and wasn't afraid of giving us strange games. Some don't do so well but that's the price of innovation.
When the PS4 Pro was announced it actually had a purpose - 4k. I'm not sure what the PS5 Pro is meant to achieve considering it doesn't even feel like the base PS5 has reached anywhere near its potential.
Demos not locked behind a paywall. Posted somewhere how ridiculous it is Sony has demos exclusive to Premium and I got absolutely obliterated in the replies, but I stand by it - demos should be used as an advertisement tool for a game, not a gatekept perk or privilege for those that pay.
Anyway, I'm very excited for this game, and I am so so happy demos are more commonly carrying progress over! I've not downloaded a demo in over 15 years until this year where I've gotten several. Can't wait for Trails.
I liked the trailer for this so much that I went out and bought Sonic All Stars Racing with 0 research or whatever it's called for the PS3 and it is really, really good. If that's how I feel about what I think is the first one, and this one is several iterations later, when it drops within my budget I'm going to have to snag it.
I don't play FPS games much and I've not touched Battlefield or COD in nearly 15 years but I am so happy to see proper competition to Call of Duty. That's what the gaming world needs, and that's also why it's sad Xbox has fallen so far behind.
Competition is vital to the health of the gaming industry. Although I'm not going to play this I will say that I've really been enjoying watching the videos online, it looks so much fun.
Those words aren't that comforting to me. Not every game needs to be huge and ambitious and cost hundreds of millions of dollars. I miss more focused games. The recent Mafia is a great example
Yesssss can't wait!!!! Given how passionate Mortal Kombat fans are I'm wondering if they'll work on their PS2 era emulators and skills to give us a volume 2 with the extremely beloved 3D era. Those games are extremely janky but I would love to get back into Deception's Konquest mode.
But for now, I grew up on Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for SNES. I hope they've kept the Galaga game in it!!
I've never heard of these! But I will say that the Mega Man X series is the one I grew up with and love so, so much. Mega Man X4 specifically was my first experience ever with an anime and the story really broke my 7 year old heart hahaha
Once I platinum the X series I guess I'll start picking up the other series and work through them all
@Michael2008ish I am genuinely wondering at this point if there's a rights issue, or a severely troubled remake they're working on. It's officially available on modern phones, why not consoles?!
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree but I also really like them revisiting their older titles. Lots of gems hiding in the vaults.
And I'm just going to say it - please give us some sort of Chrono Trigger re-release! Genuinely holds up extremely well all these years later. Even a direct port of the most basic version would be fine.
I wish people on the internet realized this but for some reason gamers online live in a world of extreme hyperbole and can't accept opinions other than their own.
@Thumper yes I have a US account but have lived in the UK for years so I'm unfortunately very familiar with the pricing differences. I think you're mixing it up a bit - £35 is over $45 and $30 with tax would be let's say $33, which is like £25. Obviously USD of course
0 regret purchase for me. Loads of fun on PS5. I've only done multiplayer (I'm ***** but don't want to touch campaign until schedules align for coop) and it looks amazing, sounds great, runs smooth as butter and the added details of colour here and there in the environment really add a lot.
@Jey887 well it's personal preference, and I am not happy with it. Psychonauts 2 is kind of cool but I've never played 1 so there's an investment there, Stardew Valley I assume most people interested in it would own on another console (I have it on Switch and I find it kind of boring), and while I appreciate a hidden gem I have no idea what Viewfinder is.
These posts just highlight the worst aspects of a digital only future locked into an eco system with 0 competition.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is £15 used on eBay, physical. For some strange reason it's £35 in the store? Which doubly is a scam in itself because why is it $30 in the same sale on the US store? That's like £21 or something.
I don't understand the need comments. A game is worth what it's worth, I think the price point is fair for what it is. And it's a lot of fun. I've only done a few multiplayer matches but something I've noticed is that the game doesn't seem 2007 grey and brown anymore - it looks a lot brighter with more colour, and it looks fantastic. Has anyone noticed this or an I crazy? The only thing I can actually point to is the foliage seems to add a lot of pop (with the green etc) but there's gotta be more to it
@Fartingale obviously it's different but the US is awful in many ways. How do you draw the line nowadays? America is erasing history, trying to take over states with the military, ignoring political assassinations if they're from another party, trying rigging elections through gerrymandering to stay in power, not to mention the gun violence, intent government racism, the rewriting of history (e.g. the museums), and trying to go backwards of women's rights and gay rights. People still buy US made games 🤷♂️
Unbelievable, had no idea there was a new entry. I remember finding Katamari Damacy used at Software Etc and buying it based off the cover. Absolutely loved it. Think there's something missing from today's gaming world where ending judges off what others are saying instead of taking a leap of faith and discovering new types of games (to be fair, it isn't cheap and there are too many games now!)
I've not played since the PSP version so I'm very excited for this! I think it's going to be surreal seeing Katamari in HD... I'm used to jagged edges and a slight blur!
I'm tired of AAA budgeted games. They're specifically made to be as cookie cutter and risk-free as possible. Look at Sony's output - all the same, I say this every time but they're third party action/adventure games with a million pointless collectibles if you're going for the platinum.
This kind fantastic. I'll get it and the Terminator game, won't destroy the bank account, and be thrilled that once I'm done the game I'm done.
@nomither6 I've not played it yet!! I'm primarily interested because it includes the first game. Have you played the first one and is it good? I was an N64 kid so revisiting the classic is mega appealing to me haha
I play my PS3 regularly and there are several games I wanted to purchase from the store. The 360 store shut down but I think Xbox has at least kept the backwards compatible games for sale on modern consoles. Nintendo is notoriously crap with this but at least the consoles are easily hackable.
I think, for me personally, the biggest disappointment will be the loss of DLC. Some games will never make a comeback on modern consoles and also don't have a physical complete edition (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, Dragon Age: 2, Alice: Madness Returns). If Sony stopped spending hundreds of millions on live service games chasing the trends they could probably invest a fraction of it into stability for the PS3 store. Maybe it won't make the money back but it'll keep people in the ecosystem and also generate goodwill for marketing hype.
Saw another interview where they said they wouldn't do any PS2-era games because of the technical limitations, but that same interview seemed to say no Mythologies or Special Forces. I'd be surprised if the latter two were included to be honest - I feel like the "more games" thing will be different versions of Trilogy. But who knows!
Can't wait for this kollection. They're right, we all grew up with a version of Mortal Kombat we love, and mine is SNES UMK3.
I never played any Bethesda games before starting this a few years back (I've since 100% Skyrim and Fallout 3!!) but for some reason I wanted to platinum this.
Got the fishing trophy but was scared off the Emperor one and ended my grind. It is the PERFECT stoner game though if you're into that. Repetitive, bit overwhelming, but easy to solo for dozens of hours and kind of mindlessly fun.
I've played Dynasty Warriors from 3 until 7. I really hated it when they got rid of the characters having unique weapons. Once they dropped that every character felt the same and it felt like the game lost a huge chunk of personality.

1) Excited for this and hope there's a volume 2 that contains the entire PS2 era
2) I hope that if they add DLC they add more trophies. For whatever stupid reason Atari 50 doesn't have any DLC trophies despite having an actively growing roster of games. Huge missed opportunity
It's a fun game, it's beautiful, but I absolutely hate when games use collectibles to pad out the open world. I know you can choose not to do that but I enjoy getting the plats, however Sony games in general tend to just overdue the collectibles for no real reason.
Game had a great story though and fun combat, and I really like the online bit. Just wish the platinum was either less time consuming or had more of a substantial challenge.
