Demos are becoming more common these days, and we welcome them with open arms. Yooka-Replaylee is the latest game to release a demo version, available right now on PS Store.
It's about 4.7 GB in size, and appears to include the first chunk of the full game.
If you're itching to play the revamped collectathon platformer, you can make a start with this playable demo, and your progress will carry over to the main game when it arrives on 9th October.
As mentioned, Yooka-Replaylee is essentially a total redo of Yooka-Laylee, updating the visuals, improving the gameplay, and adding more features.

Love this. The resurgence of demos is great to see
Will absolutely check this out too, so the marketing works (at least for me)
Growing up, the 3D platformers on the N64 were amongst my favourite games and today my favourite genre, so I backed the original version of this and whilst it didn't quite live up to those games, the potential was clearly there. So I'm downloading the demo right now
I loved The Impossible Lair but never played the first after hearing negative things. Excited to give this demo a blast.
Never finished the original but bought it on ps4 and switch. And im gonna buy this day one aswell just to support the studio
I've played the demo on Steam a while ago and I really like how the game has a proper tutorial area now, and it definitely has a bit more of a refined touch that the original was lacking.
Well it’s basically hard to get good 3d platform games now a days. Astro did it, donkey Kong bananza don’t count it’s a smash em up.
So this game really is all we have on the sort of new 3d platform game front.
Not much choice really.
I think the visuals in the first area are quite charming. Looking forward to the full release. Just a pity it's coming in a stacked month
Tried the demo and I liked it. Wish they had real voices though, but maybe that's just me.
I gave it a quick run to check out the camera. I love 3D platformers but I have to be careful since I get motion sick easily this days. So far so good. Nice wide FOV, not choppy or overly sensitive. I wish they'd give me the option to turn off "auto follow" and let me handle it completely but not bad so far. This one is shaping up nicely.
A bit confused. Thought it was a remake of the side scrolling one. Which I thought was pretty good…
Demos not locked behind a paywall. Posted somewhere how ridiculous it is Sony has demos exclusive to Premium and I got absolutely obliterated in the replies, but I stand by it - demos should be used as an advertisement tool for a game, not a gatekept perk or privilege for those that pay.
Anyway, I'm very excited for this game, and I am so so happy demos are more commonly carrying progress over! I've not downloaded a demo in over 15 years until this year where I've gotten several. Can't wait for Trails.
@BennyTheCat no that was better received and less needing a redo.
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy
Sony doesn't hide demos behind PS Premium, they hide full game trials.
A demo is a smaller part of the game downloaded and once you reach a certain point, you can no longer progress.
With the PS Premium trials, you get full access for 2 hours and if you could speed run the game to end before 2 hours you could play the full game.
Huge difference.
@Chrisathickson Again - it's a renamed demo.
No JonTron… If they bring him back I’ll consider it lol
I found the first Yooka-Leylee fun enough to go for the platinum, but I also felt a bit underwhelmed by it. The first level was the best (imo), some levels where just too big (lot of empty space), and most of all, the characters lacked, well, character and general cohesion. It all felt cobbled together.
I should put the 2d-platformer on top of my to play list, but I think I'll skip on this remake since I played the original.
@Bramble I at least recommend the demo! It's much more refined and they've even put in the effort to create a slightly more robust story. They even gave the buddy duo a proper backstory and character motivation. Obviously we don't have the full thing yet but from what I've seen it feels like despite a refinement on the level design as a whole, they've added much more to do and made it feel more alive than before.
