I know consumer sentiment has changed, but remember those weird Japanese games that always made their way to the west and were almost always PlayStation? I miss that. Doubt they'd sell well now or even be budget-reasonable sadly
A FIFA-branded football management simulator could be really nice on a touchscreen, maybe even bordering on how fantasy football works. Netflix also doesn't have microtransactions which would make it super appealing on mobile.
An ACTUAL football game by an untested(?) developer on mobile sounds horrible
Lots of negative comments. First off, we're subscribing to a service and trophies were "mandated" in the PS3 era for every title - except apparently when it comes to premium titles, the ones from the most expensive tier. As someone who loves trophies, that's the reason for me to go back sometimes (for extended periods of time) - the game is fun but there are a ton of fun games, however trophy goals to have in my profile are a good excuse to clean it up. Otherwise I'll play another game I really want to play.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that if you're subscribing to a top tier of service you'd expect the games on it to have all the bells and whistles regardless of whether it's Sony first party or not.
god i miss E3. Every developer/publisher having their own thing, trailers coming out at a clip over days, journalists meeting the developers in person and testing out the games, giving great previews. The way they do these things now sucks - hour of game trailers and awkwardness.
When everyone decided to skip the in-person events is when a bit of the gaming industry's soul chunked off and died.
I really, really wish I could get into this type of game but I think I'm just too dumb. I tried out Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition for the first time on my PS5 last week and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to position and control all of the characters. They each have spells and abilities and I got them, but I spent 20 minutes just grouping up on enemies and everyone bashing them with weapons.
Anyone have any advice? Because I'd LOVE to get into all of this.
Can barely see the wallpapers nowadays. I hate that game consoles have thrown so much crap at the screen.. Switch did it right (assuming S2 also), and being an active PS3 player I'd argue that despite the XMB being really slow it was extremely easy to use while still letting the wallpaper shine through.
PS5 just feels like it's alternating between social media and ads
There must have been something truly wrong in development that resulted in the cancellation. Even after all the delays and problems it was a huge announcement that tons of people were excited about, and although MS is obviously cutting costs if this had progressed well after the vertical slice I think would they'd have stuck with it.
Sucks it was cancelled but I'd love to read about what happened one day
Racism and geopolitical tensions seem to run the world again. Constant cycle and it's ***** depressing, and while governments will always act in their own interest at the expense of anything else it's really sad to see normal people just buy into hate and fear when it's very easy to just step back and be nice.
I think I'm the only person in the gaming world who doesn't want a hybrid PS6. Something will be compromised somewhere in the games, and while the Switch is a great system the common criticisms are very valid. I can't see a hardcore gaming audience tolerating them too much.
A dedicated console would be so much nicer - like a modern day Vita/PS3, but whatever
Sony really ***** up with Dreams and Media Molecule. There is a huge audience for this type of creator but it needs support, some appropriate marketing, and even potentially a PC version and definitely a PS5 one.
Instead Sony took away creativity and fun to focus on live service ***** and mediocre sequel's that have 0 innovations or risk.
Said this before but all of their talk about competitive play completely puts me off as a casual player, and the name of the game alone makes me feel like I'm not the target audience. I can't even guess how to pronounce it.
But that's ok, games probably shouldn't cater to every single demographic of person - in fact they absolutely shouldn't. I hope this is successful because the artwork and designs look amazing!
I am going to actually say maybe it's not AI? There are subtle differences between what looks like cutscenes and the gameplay where the character models are different (not sure the term) and with my admittedly untrained eye on shaky camera footage I've not noticed any telltale signs of AI, like strange text, backgrounds or image warping.
@iNightfarer not sure that's relevant at all - I don't want wires coming from my TV to my couch. My kids would trip, my dog would get in the way, my wife would think it looks disgusting. I can leave it plugged into the wall but the sockets are taken up by other things like lamps.
The battery life is atrocious on these controllers because they keep cramming in useless gimmicks that add 0 value and are solely there to drive up the price. How many games utilize haptic feedback, the touchpad as more than a button or map/typing swipe, the stupid lightbar? None of that adds anything to the experience.
@SMJ on even footing I disagree. Exclusives encouraged users to buy multiple platforms, created more competition, and allowed developers to fully utilise the specifics of that target system. While it sucks for consumers who don't own the console I think it ultimately helped gaming innovation and also pricing - think of the PS2/Xbox era.
With Xbox doing.. nothing really though there's no point to the exclusive because the developers will never make their money back. And games are just too expensive
A direct port would be phenomenal. An FF7-style remake would be great (I actually like Remake's combat a lot, but I also love and grew up on turn based combat). A DQ style remake would be awesome. A 2.5 HD remake would be exciting.
Literally anything with Chrono Trigger I'd be happy with.
I loved the online portion of RDR back on PS3. Very touchy challenge in some parts, just enough coordination and cooperation from online people needed, but it'll forever be one of my proudest 100% games (along with GTA IV) due to that horrendous poker trophy. Absolute nightmare to obtain.
@RawnDawn No, Colossal Order (the devs) split from Paradox and are now essentially an indie studio. They don't own the Cities: Skylines brand, however. Very curious as to what happened behind the scenes but I'm going to assume that since the studio split instead of having executives "resign" it was Paradox that forced them into making disastrous decisions that doomed CS:2.
Could be wrong, but something's up with Paradox the last few years.
A decent price, but is it worth the investment if Sony isn't putting out their own first party software? Doesn't show much faith. The PSVR really needed a Half-Life: Alyx-caliber of game
@JP80 you played them, but I get a ton of use of out of my PS3 - tons of games not on modern consoles and I don't game much on PC. The Saboteur is next on my list!
This show is so so good but I'm extremely worried about the new showrunner. Twisted Metal has a very delicate vibe balance between goofy, heartfelt, chaos, and story. The cinematography is excellent too. I really hope he lets the machine continue to run without too much interference
I'm kind of excited for this to be honest! Live action is a huge risk and I think a TV show would've been better suited, but I can't see Nintendo letting this be *****.
Very very different scenarios but Detective Pikachu and the Mario movie (newer one obviously) were extremely fun to watch. Detective Pikachu was actually a pretty dark film but they absolutely nailed everything. Mario was a fun goofy film that actually was well paced, had a lot of cool scenes, and the animation was awesome. And those movies are total opposites of each other so it shows whatever hand Nintendo is using to drive the creative stuff works well!
PlayStation closing down their Japanese studios and essentially being indifferent to the country is just so insulting. I'm glad it's being fixed, maybe, but they lost a lot of great talent
I mourn the slow death (transformation?) of what an Xbox is, and I definitely mourn exclusive titles as it encouraged competition, innovation and variety, but I'm looking forward to this!
@Romans12 I really hope you're not like this in real life, your entire comment history is extremely negative. I can't even tell if you're trying to be a troll or have just spent too much time behind a computer or something
I'd really like to see a new Midnight Club. Arcade racers have become stale, and while I'm a fan of budget titles I'd love to see Rockstar's talent take another stab at it.. although I guess a lot of that talent's gone now to be fair
Fine, but I wish they'd stop spending over half a decade developing individual games. Not the point of this release but why would it not also be a console game? Free or budget priced snippets that are fun to play on console are sorely missed
If it's like the current trend of Genshin's millions of currencies, millions of menus, hardcore gacha microtransactions, etc then I'm beyond not interested. I know it's basically nonexistent in new MMOs, but at least when you paid monthly you used to get mini expansions' worth of content every couple months. Elder Scrolls Online and SWTOR are good examples of F2P MMOs with optional purchases, but I don't think this will be like that.
I understand why developers targeted both PS4 and PS5 for so long, but it sets a really bad precedent for PlayStation. I've no interest in a PS6 as an adult, with a toddler and another on the way, with the extreme cost of consoles, and most importantly I guess knowing that the majority of games for the first few(!) years will also be on the PS5.
Backwards compatibility is great but graphics have peaked for my eyes, I'm not a framerate snob, and while RTS and other tech enhancements are awesome they're just not worth the high cost
@Drago201 then I take back my original comment .. slightly. They should've been more transparent about that change but in terms of direction I think it's obvious, it was not going to work out financially for them to do that on Infinite. Maybe an engine change (which would be sad) or otherwise.. although again, while I think they internally have clear direction, without addressing this it just makes them look bad.
@Nepp67 I think it's kind of obvious why they're dropping Halo Infinite, and it's probably way too early to talk about their five year plan. A standalone Halo multiplayer makes sense but neither that nor Halo 7 will be mentioned until after the Halo CE marketing phase is at close to finished. Not sure there is any other direction to be confused on, unless Halo 7 is an RPG or something..
Hilariously depressing how blatant tech companies are getting in flouting laws and regulations. They used to deny it and try to keep things up behind the scenes, then it moved to "we are sorry and will pay the fines", now it's AI and every company is just like ***** it, let's scan Wikipedia, YouTube, websites, everything online and not pay a soul. Even on Google searches when it gives you an AI generated response at the top of the results - those source websites aren't getting the traffic.
We can see it now with other websites already being open about the drop in traffic and revenue. It's going to be a really bad time for smaller or independent websites, and we as consumers will suffer. Maybe I'm on a rant but the entire point I'm trying to make is that there are only tough words from countries - and no consequences for the companies.
Halo 1 has SUCH a great campaign story. As someone who doesn't play FPS online at all much, I'm beyond excited to experience the campaign all over again. It's been years, and I'm curious to see how it holds up story-wise all these years later. I still remember the twist shocking me the first time I played, was masterfully done.
@PuppetMaster none of that matters to me though as a consumer, it's Sony's job to make it happen. The value is not anywhere near the price they're asking - not even mandating that all classic games have trophy support is ridiculous. I'm aware of the articles but there are tons of historical IPs to pull from.
I love watching corporate wars. Again - happy there's competition again in this space. Can't wait to see how COD reacts to Battlefield as time goes on. I don't even play this genre! It's just fun to see
@MrPeanutbutterz I think it's a nice kasual list. Better than gatekeeping through difficulty, especially when trophies are tied to half a dozenish challenging titles
This level was frustrating but also great! Not complaining about a change though as some things need to be adjusted for modern day + the original is always available.
Question - how did they add more dialog to the spark? I can't remember but if it's spoken did they recast or AI or get the person back after 25 years?
I really don't think Microsoft has a bad strategy and I personally experienced it myself a few weeks ago. I used to have every console since the PS2 generation but my Xbox One was so unbelievably pointless, ugly, and disappointing that I've stuck with the PS4 for ease.
Fast forward to early October when I learned EE includes Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as a perk. Without an Xbox I just fired up Forza on my Fire stick and went for a drive. Granted Ultimate is £40 or something a month now which is insane but disregarding the pricing it's actually pretty awesome.
Depending on the price point I'm okay with this. I also don't play online much at all with anything so maybe I'm not the best person to ask, but if Halo 1's campaign drops on the PS5 looking gorgeous with minimal bugs I would be extremely happy.
@MFTWrecks Didn't realize it was on Wii but I absolutely loved MadWorld for similar reasons hahaha.
I've never heard of Deathrow but it looks a lot of fun! There are so many games from generations ago that are just gone and will never come back. It's a bit sad and one of the reasons why I still use my PS3 nearly as much as my PS5. I've got The Saboteur to play and ModNation Racers, and I've also gotten a Retroid for some classics - although emulation is never ever the same
Actually this review made the game more appealing for me.
I've only recently started playing these kinds of games - I 100% Skyrim 1.5 years ago and it was my first one. Then I went straight into Fallout 3 and got 100% in that too. At no point did I care about any of the characters, but I did wish the dialog was a bit more punchy as it was riiiiight on the cusp of it for me. And the combat sucked in all of the games. I also never played with companions so indifferent to their personalities.
So I guess if the combat is great, the exploration is in tighter areas, and the game isn't 200 hours long then it's exactly what I want to play.
I loved this game, the music was great, the world was fun, and I enjoyed having the mansion.
But I remember very clearly having an issue where in order to continue I needed to upgrade the mansion and at one point every option was greyed out and unselectable, thus ending my game prematurely. Was so sad!
Scarface, The Getaway and Roadkill (a game I'm sure no one's ever heard of) are my top three in wanting a current gen version, whether it's a remaster or otherwise. Chrono Trigger is a runner-up but that's only because it's on mobile and DS. And the DS holds up VERY well even today.

Re: Talking Point: Does PS5 Have a Sequel Problem?
Games are taking way too long to come out, and I can't think of any new PS5 IPs that have really had a cultural impact.
PS1: Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal, Silent Hill, Spyro, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid
PS2: God of War, Kingdom Hearts, Grand Theft Auto 3 (different enough to count)
PS3: Uncharted, Resistance, Little Big Planet - all of which are essentially dead franchises, and also Sony-owned.
PS4: Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Marvel's Spider-Man
Ps5: ???

Re: For a Fleeting Moment, It Felt Like PS2 Gangster Game Scarface Could Be Getting a Re-Release
I've got The Saboteur to play and ModNation Racers, and I've also gotten a Retroid for some classics - although emulation is never ever the same
Re: The Outer Worlds 2 (PS5) - Mechanically Fantastic RPG Struggles to Be Memorable
Re: For a Fleeting Moment, It Felt Like PS2 Gangster Game Scarface Could Be Getting a Re-Release
