Still stunned at the amount of people saying trophies aren't necessary. They're not, but you're paying extra for classic titles - get trophies in there. So many people willing to settle for less. It's the premium tier. It should be premium.
Still, people will rush to defend this. Sony is upping the cost of PS+ and we're not getting anything more for it.
Well, they said they'd be doing stuff like this. And I get raising the price - but I'm stunned at the lack of outcry when they decided PS5 saved games won't be savable to USB. Disgusting behaviour to force people into a PS+ subscription, where you lose your cloud saves if your subscription is lapsed for 6 months.
Once you receive money from customers on something you absolutely should provide updates. Even just "we're working on it and it's great but taking longer than expected".
It's great for the developers being shifted! Did Sega do this while avoiding a bunch of layoffs?
I'm also pretty excited to see the games that were previously announced and I'm curious about what'll happen with Crazy Taxi. Thought it was meant to be a live service game which maybe could've actually worked, so will this now be a proper AA purchase with all content? Would love a classic arcade game with old school unlockables through achieving stuff in the game, like a new taxi for beating a time trial or something
@naruball just shortsightendness then I suppose. Shame that so many people are willing to trade ownership for convenience.. The streaming TV/movie era too, except at least the content is easily preserved unlike the walled gardens of the console/Steam owners.
Just remember - if you get banned, rightfully or wrongfully, you lose all of your games instantly. Forever.
1) I think new IPs are desperately needed in today's age
2) I know development cycles are insane but 7 years in development without an announcement for any game is disgusting. I know games are more complex now but I was 28 when this supposedly started development, I'll probably be 40 when it releases.
People wishing a game to fail are just bad people. Not true gamers. I don't see the point in this though... it might be successful on a smaller scale? But it's just another example of Sony trying to tell us what we want instead of delivering what we want.
Just a new version of marketing. I remember playing Kane & Lynch when it came out and having an absolute blast, forced my neighbour to play it start to finish coop with me, only to realize a month or two later that it was decimated in reviews (and had a ton of controversy around buying one?). Similarly, I played Spider-Man 2 after loving the first one and thought it kind of sucked. Was super disappointed, and was shocked to see it had such glowing reviews.
It's why it's annoying when kids start fighting in the comments section of a review... it's an opinion, and you can play the game yourself, and some people just like different things and it's really silly to argue over whose opinion is more right.
Honestly the Vita is such a great system that holds up very well. Shame it failed, and I highly doubt we'll ever get a reasonably sized handheld ever again.
Well, at least there are a lot of good retro handhelds now. Questionable long-term durability but tons of options. PS Vita though is built like an absolute unit, I love it
Not going to lie, as someone who isn't a football fan I find this pretty cool. I understand they killed Pro Evo for this but it's about time some sports games are getting goofy again.
Would still prefer something on the levels of NBA Jam or Ready 2 Rumble 2 though. Silly arcadey stuff with a ton of pop culture
And there are still people out there perfectly okay with an all digital future. Steam is the exception, not the rule. As soon as Sony announced a digital only console I realized how short sighted a lot of gamers were - WHY would you want that? You save £100 up front and then pay 30 to 50% more on the majority of digital titles. There are some good sales but still at the whim of Sony.
The first game had an amazing story, the second one was extremely convoluted - which is on par for the Mortal Kombat reboot that started in 2011. I really hope they nail the story but I have absolutely no doubt the graphics will be phenomenal, gameplay tight, and the characters will be depicted in an awesome way.
NRS actually has some of the best superhero and supervillain designs in all media. They look awesome.. the developers are obviously huge fans of comics. That being said, the customization in MK1 was horrendous and I didn't think they'd go backwards so who knows
@CRASH64 haha I had Bubsy in Fractured Fairytales on my Jaguar, I absolutely loved it as a kid but sucked and don't think I ever made it more than a level or two. When I got older I also realized it probably wasn't just me being bad at the game hah the game was tough
Giving one mediocre game every month or two is not worth a Premium subscription. Padding out the tier by adding modern remasters of older games to the tier is also gross.
Lego games aren't really my thing but I may try this out, I love Batman. Would actually love a non-Lego game where you play though different Batman stories like a comic book.
@Ultrasmiles I felt the same but got the upgrade anyway since I was getting a Pro a couple weeks ago and you know what, at first I couldn't really see the enhancements being worth it but it truly looks phenomenal when you leave the starting area.
As soon as I saw the price hike rumoured I went on eBay and haggled a PS5 Pro at a decent price. I can't see myself going for a PS6 though and I'm curious to see how well it sells at its initial price point, and I'm assuming the disc drive will add an extra £100 minimum to it.
Think this is definitely the beginning of the end outside of GTA. I know I'll be hitting my backlog hard soon.. and these recently priced android emulators are excellent to fill any gaps, especially combined with Retroachievements.
I don't play horror games normally but I really enjoyed The Medium's story and I thought the ending was great. Glad to see Bloober doing well but how will they keep each game in development feeling fresh and unique?
I am glad to see a studio pumping out some quality work at least once a year though. Or two studies I guess
@Darude84 with the elimination of so, so many smaller gaming news sites, I'm fine with ads, sponsored content and the inconvenience of clicking through multiple pages to try and help.
These playstation executives are absolute ***** at ideas. PS Portal? Cool but expensive. PS Pro? Terrible marketing. PSVR2? Great tech started years ago, no first party support. Huge library of historic and beloved IPs, we get one God of War, one Horizon Zero Dawn, and one (and a half) Spider-Man games every 7 years or so. And they're all third person open world collectathons with very little challenge.
Excellent games but they're just so cookie cutter now. No genre diversity, no exciting new first party announcements, budgeted way too highly to take away any element of risk/reward... but at least some stranger no one knows or cares about can be in a video game. Awesome way to celebrate
I'm playing God of War 2 and the voice acting is incredible for most of the characters, especially amazing considering this is a PS2 game. His voice acting in it is intense. Just one emotion, rage, but it never wears thin
@lazarus11 hahahaha I feel this a bit, I (genuinely) pegged Anthem as a solid 7/10 but it dropped instantly to a 1 once you got to the "end game" .. actually was phenomenal how it literally didn't have one despite the entire game being meant for live service
Many things I dislike about streaming only, and one of those is being disconnected when you're constantly interrupted. It feels more and more like gaming just isn't being catered to parents - well, except for the prices I guess
Those Spider-Man games.. I still remember the Maximum Carnage box SNES box on the shelves in Blockbuster and West Coast Video when I was growing up in NJ. Fond memories. Badass box art.
This is a little unrelated but we needed a TV upgrade, was going to wait another six months to a year or so but decided to buy one today actually, because this AI hardware crisis is going to spill out of PC enthusiast and video gamer territory into literally everything at some point. We're going to take for granted how cheap electronics were very, very soon.
I miss when multiplayer was an option on the main menu of a game. Maybe they weren't super balanced, didn't get new content continuously etc but they were fun. Transformers: War for Cybertron, Uncharted 3, even TLOU.
If this were like the Ratchet & Clank remake I'd have been ecstatic. Shame it didn't go anywhere, and now Jak & Daxter are on the long, long list of abandoned PlayStation IPs
I've bought probably a hundred or more PlayStation digital games in the last 15 years, and my reward for it is to be in what seems to be a higher price bracket for sales. That is unbelievably insulting to me as a consumer - thankfully most of my collection nowadays is physical. But for anyone championing an all digital future - this is what you're rooting for.
I love games like this, but what blows my mind is FIFA breaking up with EA. I guess EA wins, because while this game actually looks fun (in concept), it doesn't need the FIFA branding at all. But hey - they're counting on those few whale players to earn back the development £ I guess
PlayStation was successful when it wasn't 100% committed to chasing trends. Now for some strange reason even having a near-monopoly in the console gaming space they're still losing tons of cash and shutting down studios. That says something about the decisionmakers at the top, and it also makes me really hope Xbox Helix becomes a decent competitor.
It is insane a game that came out a couple years ago is already delisted, especially after the special editions or whatever cost upwards of £100. I don't understand why people buy the WWE games.
I love how mismanaged PlayStation has become. Games taking years to come out with very little in between (where are the great budget titles?), insane amounts of millions wasted on chasing live service profits instead of giving gamers what they actually want, cutting a famed and well regarded studio, doing dynamic pricing to punish your most loyal customers, and now the ... second? pointless rebrand of PSN which will just add confusion.
How are these decision makers in power? I've found myself playing less modern games due to the expense and going back to my PS3 and classic games on my Retroid. Was debating getting a PSVR2 but they abandoned that before it even launched it feels like, despite being a great piece of tech.
I am assuming people that say consoles are dying are young people without children or partners? I do very little PC gaming because I want to be around my family in the living room. When my daughter is playing with her things and my wife is scrolling I can easily put my feet up and get some PS5 time in, with the added benefit of being able to resume right where I left off immediately in case I have to go do something quickly.
Console gaming may merge with PC gaming, bit the dedicated game box in the living room idea shouldn't and probably won't ever die. And in 5 to 10 years I don't want to spend a thousand pounds on a PC - I'll spend maybe £500 when a modern console hits that price point.
@4fold I get it, sometimes you get a trophy in a game you were just testing out and now you're forced to look at it forever. But it doesn't actually matter - it would be great for any reason to remove trophies. Even Retroachievements offer an encore mode for those interested in redoing plats. We shouldn't be limiting people!
