Update []:

Following the blog post mentioned below, Quantic Dream has now officially announced Spellcasters Chronicles, its competitive multiplayer game.

Here's the teaser trailer:

Spellcasters Chronicles is a free-to-play game combining strategy and action, in which you and your teammates summon creatures and wield magic to come out victorious.

Each 3v3 match is a 25-minute battle in which you must engage in third-person action and make tactical decisions to overcome the opposing team.

The game will host a closed beta on PC via Steam later this year, and other platforms have yet to be confirmed.

Original Story: Quantic Dream, the studio best known for its narrative adventure games like Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, is dipping its toe into the world of multiplayer.

In a new blog post on its website, the French developer explains its current structure and ambitions, where it says it's no longer a single-game studio.

The team has "doubled" in headcount since 2018 and is now working on several titles, including Star Wars: Eclipse, which was announced nearly four years ago.

One game in the works is a "competitive multiplayer experience", which is of course a big departure from Quantic Dream's usual output.

After years as a single-project studio, we also decided to take a new step. Multiple teams are fully dedicated to crafting the next generation of great games, including something very different, a competitive multiplayer experience, born from the same spirit of curiosity and creativity that has always defined us.

This new title may surprise our fans as it is very different from what we have done so far. But taking risks, challenging ourselves, exploring new ways of playing and telling stories, and attempting what seems impossible, has always been part of our DNA.

We also know how demanding it is to create something new. Earning the trust of players, standing out in such a competitive space, and introducing fresh concepts is incredibly challenging. And since we have no legacy in this genre, we know we have everything to prove — which is why your support and feedback will be essential. Together, we believe we can create something truly unique.

Overall the post is fairly vague on details; it sounds like Quantic Dream has seriously expanded over the last few years, and it has been publishing a selection of external games, such as 2024's Dustborn.

The announcement of a competitive multiplayer game is a curveball, for sure — we'll be very interested to see what that looks like, but we don't expect to see it for some time yet.

Anyway, interesting stuff from the David Cage joint. Are you excited for a multiplayer game from Quantic Dream? Tell us in the comments section below.
