PS5 Controller's Removable Battery Seemingly Debunked for Now 1

Recent rumours said Sony was planning to roll out a revised version of the DualSense controller with a removable battery, but they may be incorrect – at least for now.

The original rumour stemmed from Polish website PPE which has outed some accurate information in the past, but it increasingly looks like something may have been lost in translation in this particular instance.

It reported that the new controller would be bundled with a revised PS5 Pro, but a teardown of the tweaked system from tech vlogger Austin Evans (as first spotted by Insider Gaming) confirms that’s not the case.

Evans notes that the pad does have a different battery inside, but it’s certainly not an easily replaceable one as was previously reported.

None of this rules out the rumour entirely, of course, as it may still be within Sony’s plans to introduce a DualSense with a replaceable battery. But honestly, we suspect it’d rather you buy an entirely new pad at this point.

As for the PS5 Pro itself, well, very little is different about the hardware in this revamp. The primary point of differentiation is its weight, which is a little lighter than previous models.

Sony tends to refine the manufacturing of its machines over time, so none of this is out of the ordinary.

The only real difference is that the platform holder has been able to bring down costs to the consumer in the past – but in this world of inflation, semi-conductor shortages, and tariffs, the PS5’s various models actually cost more now than they did at launch.

And that’s an issue that’s not only affected Sony, but all console manufacturers. Crazy.
