Xbox is Halo; Halo is Xbox.
So, despite Microsoft’s multiformat efforts, there’s going to be some surprised faces when the firm inevitably confirms Master Chief is coming to PS5.
We may not have to wait too long for a reveal either, because the recently renamed Halo Studios has been teasing an imminent announcement at the Halo World Championship Series (yes, apparently that’s a thing) on 24th October. That’s roughly three weeks away from the time of typing.
Now, connected Halo “insider” Rebs Gaming – alongside “sources” at Xbox Era – reports that Halo Studios is working with Virtuous’ Abstraction team in the Netherlands to co-develop a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, the first game in the franchise.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard a rumour like this, as some kind of remake of the Xbox original has been teased for several years now. It’d make the perfect franchise introduction for players on PS5 and beyond.
The rumour continues that the project will supposedly use a “hybrid engine” approach, fusing the original code with Unreal Engine 5, similar to the recent The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which we suppose makes sense.
Xbox Era adds that the project is being led by Halo Studios, so Virtuous is mostly being used for support. Depending on your perspective, that could spell good or bad news for the project.
There’s no word of target platforms so obviously we’re being presumptuous tying this to PS5, but look at the evidence that already exists: Microsoft outright announces practically all of its games for Sony’s console at this point, and many of them are available day and date.
We’d expect this rumour to snowball before 24th October, but all should be revealed by the end of the month.
