As had been rumoured weeks in advance, Sony is set to host its first State of Play presentation of 2026 very soon. That means that, rather than trying to figure out if an event is actually happening, the conversation now moves on to what's gonna be there.

It's always good fun speculating about a showcase like State of Play; there's no real way of knowing, but it's nice to get excited and make some guesses about what we might see during the hour-long show.

So, below you'll find a series of quick predictions about February's State of Play to keep you going until the big day.

20 PS5 Predictions for State of Play February 2026 2

007 First Light Shakes and Stirs with New Gameplay

This feels like a pretty safe bet, right? 007 First Light made its debut at a previous State of Play, then had one all to itself. It seems Sony is keen to promote this action adventure, and with it set to arrive in a few months, why not get some excitement going with a new gameplay trailer? Perhaps something that doesn't show the frame rate tanking this time.

Accessorise Your Life

One thing that’s obvious about the PS5 era: Sony loves a good accessory. To be fair, the platform holder’s done an amazing job expanding its product portfolio, and it still has to attach dates to its previously announced Pulse Elevate desktop speakers and official fight stick, the FlexStrike. But let’s take this one step further: the PS Portal has proven a massive success, so could we get a glimpse at the widely rumoured OLED model as well?

Ace Combat 8 Takes Off with New Info

There have been some rumours flying around about Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, and we're wondering whether this State of Play might be the place Bandai Namco makes it all official. Word on the street is that an online playtest is coming very soon, and maybe more exciting, one of the pre-order bonuses could be a remaster of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. Beta and pre-order info, along with a new trailer? Don't think we're flying too high with this one.

Control Resonant Takes the Hiss in New Gameplay

Remedy Entertainment is gearing up to make Control Resonant its biggest game yet, and while it's still a little ways off, we reckon there's a chance it shows up here. Perhaps the team will show up with some fresh gameplay footage that really conveys the difference between this game and its predecessor. We certainly hope so.

Death Stranding 2 on PC Is Hideo Kojima's Latest Editing Project

Good old Kojima, editing game trailers while he isn't scanning all his Hollywood mates with his fancy machine. He's back at it, anyway, editing something together for reasons unknown. If you ask us, one thing this might be is a trailer to go alongside the announcement of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for PC, and that's a perfect fit for State of Play.

Are We Heading Back to Detroit?

Bryan Dechart, the actor who portrayed Connor in Detroit: Become Human, made this post about State of Play, possibly hinting at his involvement in something during the show. We don't want to pigeonhole the guy, especially as he's shown such range in the past, but the first thing that sprang to mind was a remaster of Quantic Dream's sci-fi adventure. We wouldn't be at all surprised to see it.

Ghost of Yotei's Legends Mode Comes Out Swinging

It's about time we saw Ghost of Yotei's promised Legends mode in action, and this State of Play provides a perfect stage. We would assume that the multiplayer expansion won't be far off, especially since Sucker Punch already gave us the big New Game+ update last year. As such, we could definitely see Legends nabbing a release date, alongside a swish gameplay trailer.

A Different Perspective on God of War

Are we really getting a side-scrolling God of War game with a Metroidvania structure? It's been rumoured for ages now, and it's one we're still half-expecting every time Sony shows its hand. There was a lot of noise about such a project for a while, and it has quietened down more recently, but it's a thought we can't shake. It could very well be real, and where better to announce a God of War title than State of Play?

Judas Finally Shows Off Some Proper Gameplay

There’s been so much yapping about Judas, the spiritual successor to BioShock from Ken Levine, but very little in the way of actual gameplay. With rumours that this thing was going to drop last year, which obviously ended up not being the case, we are begging for Ghost Story Games to finally lift the veil on this single-player adventure. Maybe we'll even get a release date reveal.

Marathon Approaches the Final Stretch with Beta Test

With Marathon’s release date just a few weeks away, we reckon Sony will announce the game’s promised beta. In fact, with the State of Play taking place on a Thursday night, we'd bet that the beta will kick off the very next day, allowing PS5 players to check out the game across the weekend.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Finally Lays the Smack Down

Ever since Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls' impactful announcement last year, we've all been left twiddling our thumbs, waiting for the drip-feed of new information. While we've had a couple of beta tests, we still don't know about any characters other than the eight that debuted in the reveal trailer. There's also scant information about the game's modes or overall structure. Is now the time to finally lift the lid on this promising tag-team fighter? We can only hope so.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Unsheathes Its Release Date

All things considered, Capcom's been fairly quiet on Onimusha: Way of the Sword since it was revealed back in 2024. Outside of some limited gameplay footage, there's still so much we don't know about the revival of this iconic series — but with the title set to launch this year, surely it's time for a release date? Granted, the publisher's busy promoting Resident Evil Requiem right now, but you'd think it'll have to start pushing the return of Onimusha sooner rather than later.

20 PS5 Predictions for State of Play February 2026 5

Phantom Blade Zero to Hero

Remove GTA 6 from the equation, and Phantom Blade Zero has a shot at being one of the bigger games of the year. This title’s going to be enormously important to the Chinese market, but we also expect it to breakout globally, much like Black Myth Wukong. While the game’s not due out until September, we’re sure S-GAME will want to mark Lunar New Year with some kind of trailer. And with this being a big PS5 console exclusive, Sony may get dibs on debuting some – if not all – of the footage.

Is It a State of Play without a PlayStation Plus Update?

Sony likes to pad out these events with some PS Plus announcements, and since we’re due to get the Extra and Premium tier updates on Tuesday, the 17th anyway, it makes sense that they’ll show up here. Since this is so obvious, we'll predict that the big headliner game coming to PS Plus Extra is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

We Catch a Glimpse of PS5 Pro's Big PSSR Update

It's no secret that the PS5 Pro is getting an update at some point this year, with its PSSR upscaling tech set to be refined and enhanced. We can potentially see it being mentioned during this State of Play. Perhaps it'll be brought up alongside fresh footage from a game like Saros, showcasing what's in store for owners of Sony's premium machine.

Rayman Charges Up a Nostalgia Punch with Remaster

Rumour has it that Ubisoft is busy preparing to bring back the original Rayman in some sort of remaster. While the game launched on various platforms, it's a PS1 classic for many, so perhaps that association makes it a great candidate for State of Play.

Capcom Gives Us One More Peek at Resident Evil Requiem

What's the biggest game coming in February? Resident Evil Requiem, by some margin. Sony has always aligned itself with Capcom and its horror series, and with the game just a couple of weeks away, another plug makes perfect sense. It could be some totally fresh gameplay snippet, or maybe just a launch trailer, but we reckon Requiem's a lock.

Saros Reminds Us Why Housemarque Is King of Arcade

Sony is readying up to launch Saros in April this year, and surely it can't let this State of Play go by without another look. Housemarque's arcadey third-person shooter looks great, but we haven't seen very much of it yet; now seems like a good opportunity to send particles flying in some frantic action and get fans pumped up for the Returnal successor.

Starfield Makes a Surprising (But Also Not-So-Surprising) PS5 Appearance

This prediction feels a bit dodgy because logic dictates that Starfield's inevitable PS5 port (and 2.0 overhaul) will surely be announced during some kind of Xbox show — but there's no denying that a State of Play reveal would ignite more interest. We know this thing's coming, so why not go all-in?

Time for a Fresh Look at Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Tomb Raider is synonymous with PlayStation, so it makes sense to us if we see the latest game in the series at the latest State of Play. We don't have an awful lot backing this up, but it just feels like the right venue to watch a new trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of Lara Croft's very first adventure.
