@revansgc if you’re dev group isn’t making a billion dollar game then no one is going to spend $80 off the rip for it. The industry can’t follow GTA because they don’t make that level of game to sell.
I’ve never been that obsessed with GTA so if I have to wait for it to come down to a regular price if it’s over $70 that’s just fine. Games gunna be around for the next 10 years. What’s even the rush?
I love everyone trying to push the doom and gloom angle of gaming while having to insert record high profits beside it, lol. Hardcore gamers are very emotional people though so it makes sense I guess.
People are once again conflating internet chatter with real world consumers. The average person buying games, whether you want to consider them a "gamer" or not, does not care that much about AI. The only people yelling are Twitter trolls and forum dwellers. There is already Gen AI in video games and art now, and I don't see it hurting anyones sales because once again the vocal minority are just that, a minority.
@Lovespuds I can’t even believe how uninformed your entire post is, lol. It’s almost like you don’t have a job in the industry and don’t even remotely understand how it’s being used.
I honestly didn't resonate with Control much. I liked the world building, but practically nothing else. So this will be a game I play in a few years when it comes to PS+.
We all know critics and publication scores mean next to nothing now. Crimson Deseret gets a 6/10 from so many, yet sells 6 million units. Marathon gets a 9/10 and Bungie is about to lay 50% of their staff off and most likely shut the game down. So when you say it launched to critical acclaim, that really means nothing in 2026. Somehow everything coming from the East is scoring 6/7's, but selling millions of copies and rewarding their devs. Meanwhile everything coming from the West scores 9/10's, but are shutting down the studios after.
I don’t know why people want Sony to buy Ninja Theory? I imagine people who think business should be a charity. There’s a reason they’re being sold and it’s not because they have a high value everyone is lined up around the block to get into, lol.
There’s not enough room for every company to succeed. Even if games were cheaper, there’s literally not enough time to play all these games even. Unless we move to a world where all games are free and no one has to work for a living, studio closures are unavoidable with how many games come out now. It’s not all bad because I think it will push studios to make better games in the long run when you can’t just throw anything out there and expect to win.
I’ve got Pragmata at one, but I have not played RE9 just yet so that could change. Between those two I think it’s a lock for me unless something else comes out of nowhere by the end of this year. I think Wolverine will be good but it’s really just reskinned Spider-Man so it won’t be a game of the year for me. And I’ve never thought GTA is game of the year worthy even if it’s the most profitable game like ever, lol.
Spreading these out only a month isn’t going to matter. People who break the bank in September aren’t going to roll into October and then just all of a sudden have a bunch more money to spend.
@Toilet_Goat keeping your game secret slightly longer yields significantly less profits than not selling to Korea because you want a game under wraps a little longer.
@Swandivetotheasphalt and at the end of the day, what did you get for the success that was any different than the haters? Absolutely nothing, lol. Spend it well.
It doesn't surprise me given the fist title is extremely contentious so everyone is talking about it, which means all media is covering it, and if you look at trailers, the like/dislike ratio is 50/50. I will be more interested in a sales chart comparison when all these games release because I think it's going to look very different.
It's just shedding the fake Covid bloat. Some of the best games are showing you don't need massive budgets and head counts to make extremely profitable games. It shouldn't shock anyone that the overly bloated AAA studios are cleaning house. Who would have thought making games with actual market appeal would be the best strategy?
So then explain to me how pulling Gears E-Day when it was literally already finished for PS5 is a "healthy business" move?? I swear anyone could be Xbox CEO. At least she's nice to look at.
