'I Need to Take Time to Reset': Award-Winning Actress Leaves One of PS5's Most Promising Games 1

Tides of Annihilation, the London-set fantasy action game from Chinese studio Eclipse Glow Games, looks awesome.

But there’s another reason to be excited for it: Jennifer English, star of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, was set to feature as protagonist Gwendolyn. English, of course, won awards for her role as Maelle.

Unfortunately, the team has announced she’s left the project due to “personal health reasons” – although she will remain involved with the project in an “advisory role”.

A new actress has been recruited, and is currently recording lines for the game’s previously announced Gamescom demo – although these are some big shoes to fill.

English has since commented on her decision on Instagram, explaining she needed “to take time to reset and properly look after my mental and physical health”.

Meanwhile, in its own statement, Eclipse Glow Games said:

“We have truly enjoyed this journey together, and wish Jennifer all the very best, and most importantly, good health and happiness in whatever comes next. To our players, thank you for your continued support and understanding. We’re truly grateful to have you on this journey with us.”

So it’s sad news for Tides of Annihilation, then, but it seems like the dev is taking it all in its stride – and obviously the health and well-being of English comes first.

Here’s hoping she comes back stronger when she’s ready.
