I guess these are just articles for the chuds at this point because it doesn't take much to find that while hardware sales might be down, PS revenue hit a record high this year. So what does it matter if Sony sells less PS units if they still rake in cash doing so? I feel like people think Sony are going to look at declining hardware sales, and then just ignore increasing overall profitability, and then go hey our bad, let's drop the price again and also add back the disc drive, lol. You all still aren't winning this war.

Given the style of game this is, it’s not going to be made or broken by a VA. You could have put all the best VA’s in Lost Soul Aside and that game would still have been ass.

@PercyChuggs that doesn’t account for inflation. In 2018 a ticket price was on average $9. Now it’s $11. So they are trending upwards with raw dollars, but doing so selling far fewer tickets. So that is why you can still see emptier theaters. If you actually break it down, the movie theater industry is doing better than the last few years, but it’s hardly a true return to form, at least for now.

This feels like another Sony title I can wait till a first sale for. I’m a big Wolverine fan but this game honestly doesn't look that inspired. I honestly don’t see anything from Sony in the near future that looks like day 1 anymore.

@ShadowRJ Sony takes 30% of all sales from the digital store front (includes MTXs even). They would never lock that behind a paywall because they would lose millions of players who spend money on free to play games, and tons of impulse buying, all from non-subs. It sounds nice for a doom and gloom post, but it's wildly unrealistic it would ever actually happen. The amount of money non-subs are probably already spending on the store front outweigh a monthly sub.

This is ignoring the fact that retailer sites are notorious for not having very good anti-bot protection and I imagine a ton of these were bought up by resellers and those sites will be flooded with copies selling for twice as much when this launches. While it's true there is still a very small market for physical disc owners, this reeks of scalpers more than actual players.

@Rich33 threats about withholding purchases that only have physical are weaker given over 80% of purchases are already digital. If you think in 2028 that 20% of holdouts are just going to quit gaming or go fully PC, you're on one. If anyone here was going to go full PC, they would have already done it, because there is honestly no reason to console game if you're comfortable with a PC. In short, the holding out is a veiled threat that no one will stick with.

@TheDarts Right. All it shows is an ongoing interest in trophy hunting given the only reason it spiked was due to the platinum becoming unattainable soon. I don't think it means people wouldn't be interested in a new inFamous game. But this specific case does not support what the article is trying to say with that statement.

Fingers crossed this is more like Stellar Blade or DMC and less like Lost Soul Aside. I won't get my hopes up though. These action titles are so hit or miss.

You can't say you produce "acclaimed original IP" as your studio is being kicked out the door because you can't sell any copies. Sure, if you think journalists get to determine what games get to be considered "acclaimed", but in the real world where it actually matters, you have to earn that by more than just minor internet praise. It just sounds goofy to say we are an acclaimed studio but we also might not be able to even keep the lights on. They might very well be better suited to just be a support studio too.

Unfortunatley suing someone in 2026 doesn't mean as much as people think it does. The majority of these kinds of lawsuits never work out the way people who are sue happy think they will. I am going to sue you is about as common as saying hello at this point.

@Balaam_ I am going to guess you can't even fully upgrade your gear and abilities without the second play through too. It seems to be common with these more generic action type games because they are rarely ever worth a second play through. I thought Black Myth was a great game for one play through but having to go through it again to finish the platinum was tedious.

The only reason this won’t hurt PS5 is Xbox still has no first party exclusives worth having. How ironic the system that produces games no one wants is putting them on discs a handful of physical owners want.

@Old-Red Yeah, but the figure still shows 80% of people will buy digital media, lol. It doesn't matter if people WOULD have bought it had they both been released at the same time. If they can see +80% in digital sales, that's all that's needed to show they don't have to release a physical disc and still make sales. Understanding that doesn't make you a shill.
