Sony's New Spider-Man Movie Tipped for Explosive Box Office Opening

I'm not sure if I'm in the minority here but I thought Spider-Man 2 was an incredibly disappointing game. The collectibles were uninspiring, the parts of the game where you play as non-Spider-man characters really killed the pacing, and the side missions felt very.. I don't know, out of place.

The main story pacing was also a bit erratic, the villains kind of meh, and there were no substantial leaps over the prior two games. I played once to platinum then I did NG+ only focusing on the main story and both times I walked away feeling like it took absolutely no risks at all. And the first Spider-Man game was the game that got me into platinum hunting. So good, dark story, great twists and turns.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy definitely not minority, it was a huge step down from the first game. Especially in writing department.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy Yeah the plot pacing was all over the place. Plus all the Hype around Venom yet he was underused and kinda disappointing. Sure you get to play as him for what, 10 minutes or so? Idk the whole peter, mj relationship stuff I wouldn't have mided if it weren't so boring and such a huge part of the plot. I think they just bit of too many pieces of the cake. I dont regret playing it but havent come back for it either.

I only like the Toby Maguire spider man movies.
Tried to watch the last one of these turned it off after about 20 mins.
I also don't like them changing the race of characters nowadays!
If it was the other way around it would be considered racist but that's the world now backwards!

Prerty simple really, Spiderman films consistently give the people what they want, so they perform brilliantly at the box office. Sadly, other many other superhero films of the last decade insist on giving people what the film maker wants, like that crappy script and story for Super Girl, and then thry blame the public for not going to watch it.

@trev666 it's reason enough, the film has an effect on the renewed popularity of the games and the game gets new updates related to the film. Do they need more reason than that? Seems reasonable to me.

Probably gonna watch the movie tomorrow. Funny though that i never watch previous Tom Holland Spidey movies in theater.

@Zuljaras I found Miles Morales extremely likeable in the games. Not as much in the cartoons.

The wife wants to watch this but I'm not going. Can't be doing with films these days. I might watch it if it ever hits Prime or Netflix but even then I probably won't. I didn't realise Tom Holland wasn't Spiderman, news to me that, hung up his Spiderboots has he lol.

Tom Holland is just a mini version of Ben Shepherd they look so similar!

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy I thought it did some things great, others not so much. I loved Kraven, but Venom was incredibly disappointing. You get the great Tony Todd to voice him, and yet he’s barely in the game. He’s not even Eddie Brock, its Harry Osborn of all people.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy Tonally it was a mess, summed up by the absurdly dumb opening. Sandman massacres New York and is surely responsible for deaths of thousands of innocents. He then shrinks to normal size and stands inside a glass tank like David Blaine so both Spideys can say he really just needs a helping hand from the two of them. He then gets whisked away from the script to be not seen again whilst you're tasked with a laughably simple gameplay segment where you're pulling out a few NPCs who are stuck in knee deep sand. All whilst everyone seems to be casually shrugging off this catastrophic event.

@TheDarts What? Spider-Man movies do not consistently give audiences what they want. They're successful because it's f***ing Spider-Man, one of the biggest characters in history.

Supergirl was almost certainly a victim of executive/Gunn meddling — it very much was not the unfettered vision of the director. That's not to say it would've been perfect if it was, either, but that's a ridiculous rationality for the movie's quality.

Supergirl was also better than Spider-Man 3, and both Amazing movies. And I have a soft spot for all of the latter.

@BuGGy2DaB This is incorrect information, there is one but it's at the very end after all the credits and even the end logos. I had to Google it after your comment because the chances of any Marvel movie not having any post credits scene is slim to none

@Mr-Cage Reverse race-swapping happens all the time, though.

Depending on the circumstances, it can come off as very racist. Most people don't care either way, though. And, in this specific case, the chemistry between Zen and Holland is infinitely more important to the film than making sure MJ is a white redhead.

Not really much else to say is there? It’s a film about a bloke that isn’t allowed to age as they’ll replace him with another bloke who’s barely a bloke and then the cycle shall repeat.

All these superheroes getting older would make for far more interesting storylines for me personally, but then you’re not going to keep getting constant young bums on seats attaching themselves to the IP.

Spider-Man having hip displacement, and swinging to collect his pension whilst forgetting where his house keys were across New York, that sounds like a film I’d be down for.

@Mr-Cage this..I've always had an issue when white characters are replaced with people of colour if that's the correct phrasing? Scarlet Johanson got so much flack when she played the lead in ghost in the shell..cultural appropriation everybody cried but Samuel l Jackson playing nick fury? Not an eye lid was battered. Let me reiterate before somebody burns me at the stake as its not people of different colour playing white characters but the whole discourse and hypocrisy around it.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy Spiderman 2 was absolutely a step back. We know that for sure because they didn't even make DLC for it.

I'm just going to go out and say it. Tom Holland is the most overrated actor I have ever seen and Tobey Maguire's Spiderman is still the far superior of the series.

Is this what you're now claiming you originally claimed? Just completely ignoring your "filmmakers want c***py scripts" statement that implied there was some artistic decisions consistently in all Spider-Man films that make them profitable.

@RoomWithaMoose no, I was clear. Spider-Man films gave people want they wanted, a Spider-Man they could relate to written with the fans in mind. Supergirl gave folks an unlikeable character from an unpopular comic that nobody related to because nobody wanted this version of Supergirl apart from Noguiera, as proven by it being a box office disaster.

@TheDarts People love Woman of Tomorrow, and were explicitly excited to see a movie heavily inspired by it.

And you were absolutely not clear people wanted a relatable Spider-Man. And you can say plenty about movie Supergirl, but I don't see how she wasn't relatable. Personally, I also found her quite likable. In fact, I wouldn't say Supergirl was at all the problem of the Supergirl movie

@RoomWithaMoose Well yeah Sony distribute and fund it not Disney. At the risk if repeating myself again Marvel Studio's are the ones who make it though for Sony. Its why Disney were in two minds over renewing the deal post FFH as they make the films but Sony get most of the profit.

@TheDarts Drinker fan? I ask because it was him who started parroting WoT wasn't popular thanks to someone else in his stream saying he thinks it wasn't popular. Woman of Tomorrow is an award winning universally acclaimed comic and is regarded as the best Supergirl story ever, calling it unpopular would be like calling All Star Superman unpopular. Supergirl the film issue was being a poor adaption that completely missed the point, themes and message of the comic it was based on as well as dropping the stunning art of the comic for brown and more brown.

Tell me though what "popular" Supergirl story would you like to see adapted? I can tell you the best SG stories are the ones that depict Kara as brash, angry, a bit violent and well cynical. She's not Superman at all despite what the CW show tried to suggest.

@Northern_munkey I haven't been into comic books for a minute, but I think I'm correct In saying that tbe SLJ version of Fury was based on an Ultimates alternate universe run whose version of Fury was (in.a bizarre bit of foreshadowing) based on SLJ. - years before he was cast in the MCU. Something like that anyway...

@RoomWithaMoose Yeah i don't watch Drinker but Th3Birdman covers his BS so i saw some of that stream. Basically in Drinkers stream one of his lackeys asked has anyone read any SG comics and Drinker said no. Someone else said yes but not WoT and that as far he was aware it wasn't popular. Now the key thing is the person never said "wasn't popular" in factual manner but more in a "i think it wasn't popular" way. Drinker took it and used it a factual manner in later videos and since then his followers have been parroting the whole "WoT wasn't popular" quote. Of course none of them have read or cared about Supergirl until now so they know jack like the larpers they are, its why i asked the other guy what Supergirl story he would adapt as i'm pretty sure he's never read a single one.

@LN78 In like the first or 2nd issue of the Ultimates Fury straight up said Jackson should play him in a movie. Jackson wasn't happy they used his likeness without his consent, the story is he would let it go on the grounds they cast him as Nick when the time comes.

@trev666 There's also news when Sony do a TV show based off a game or when they announce a anime based off game. I don't see the problem doing the same with films, this is a film based on an IP from one of Sony's biggest selling games.

@Mr-Cage You understand Peter has had multiple love interests right? Just recently he hooked up with an alien girl in the comics. Zendaya plays Michelle Jones. They most likely changed her name to stop people like you freaking out over a race change on a character you never gave a damn about previously until said race change. MJ's race never mattered all that mattered is how she matters to Peter. Bet you never complained about the Anchient One.

Fun fact Stan Lee supported race changes and said if he had created these characters in more modern times they would be more diverse. In fact Black Panther was created to have a more diverse character.

@DennisReynolds I don't like the current direction of the spiderman character myself to be honest good old classic Spidey with the original characters is perfect to me.
It's just a matter of opinion my friend in my opinion I don't like it.
