Why haven't BioWare and EA remastered the Dragon Age games? Surely it's an easy win — especially after Mass Effect Legendary Edition was such a roaring success.
Well, as it turns out, some kind of Dragon Age trilogy was being planned years ago, but as time has passed, such a project has become increasingly unlikely — and it's all down to the big changes that BioWare's gone through.
"There is basically no one at BioWare anymore that understands the Aurora Engine," former BioWare director, producer, and Dragon Age creator Mark Darrah explains to FRVR.
Both the beloved Dragon Age: Origins and its divisive sequel Dragon Age 2 were built on upgraded versions of the aforementioned Aurora Engine, and as Darrah says, the studio's now comprised of (almost) completely different people who never worked with that tech.
And that's why a remastered collection feels like such a pipe dream. Darrah continues: "There’s basically no one outside of BioWare anymore that understands the Aurora engine. So unlike Mass Effect, which is Unreal [Engine]... there are basically no companies that could help you."
