US PS5 Sales Down Almost 20% Year-Over-Year, Rounds Out Rough Month for Industry 1

June 2026 was always going to be a difficult month for the US games industry, as last year plotted the record breaking release of the Switch 2.

Nintendo’s console registered an expected 79% year-over-year decline, contributing to a 21% decrease for the industry at large.

The price adjusted PS5 also assisted with the downturn, posting a 19% year-over-year hardware revenue slump. It’s becoming an increasingly tricky year for the PS5, no doubt about that.

Xbox actually doubled its sales year-over-year, although it was still in dead last across all metrics, even though this was a better month overall for Microsoft’s machine.

Of note, EA Sports UFC 6 was the best-selling game of the month, leading all other titles, including on PlayStation platforms.

Viral hit Meccha Chameleon rather remarkably finished second, ahead of 007 First Light and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Remember, these charts are ordered by revenue, and the indie title only costs around $6 – it’s estimated to have sold four million units in the US alone.

Of course, Circana data now incorporates digital sales projections, mixed with point of sale actuals. This means there could be irregularities or inaccuracies in its results.
