Instead of doing a Square Enix, it appears Ubisoft has actually underestimated the demand for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced.
The PS5 pirate remake has now sold more than 3.5 million units, as per the publisher's latest sales results. This is more copies than Ubisoft expected to sell across the entire year, and it's managed it inside two weeks.
It said: "Strong launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in July, achieving 84 on OpenCritic and Metacritic, with 3.5 million copies sold in to date, exceeding annual expectations within its first 14 days."
Black Flag Resynced made a strong start following its release earlier this month, opening to two million sales in 24 hours. One week later, it had shifted three million units. Now, it's at 3.5 million and blowing away Ubisoft's expectations.
Ubisoft's latest remake project was a known quantity for a long time before its announcement, and those rumours also suggested the publisher plans to remake more Assassin's Creed games if Black Flag Resynced sells well.
I think it's very safe to say those other remake projects will now be given the green light.
A fan-favourite after its PS4 launch with the console, I called it a "classic restored with love and respect" in my 8/10-rated PS5 review. "It’s as you remember it, except better, bigger, and markedly flashier in all the right ways. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced demonstrates there’s still a charm to staying faithful."
Are you one of the 3.5 million owners of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced? Let us know in the comments below.

Dang... that's great numbers. Is this selling at a better pace than Shadows?
I bought a couple of digital versions of the game just to support the publisher and also help pave the digital-only future.
@captainsandman No doubt.
This will undoubtedly lead to more remakes of older AC games. I'd bet either 1 or 2 is up next. I'd like a remake of 3, but that would take way more work. The script and performances in that game are pretty damn bad. I feel like the Ezio trilogy are the only other games they could copy/paste performance capture and audio recordings from.
Suddenly were publishing units sold and not just player count 🤭
@captainsandman AC Shadows is like 2nd worst sold AC game in their history. First week AC BF resynced outsold AC Shadows 2:1.
Not shocking its the fan favourite AC game. It was a free win for Ubi.
It's very well done, looks great and feels great, but I've also realized I've grown tired of AC's schtick. I think I need a multiyear break.
@REALAIS Source for that?
Shadows sold in line with what Ubi expected and its last reported sales were that it overperformed thanks to the Switch 2 release. Fact is Shadows sold just fine it was a success no matter how much people like you keep saying otherwise.
Very cool to see. I've been having an absolute blast with it! It's been awesome to be back on the Jackdaw once again. Felt like seeing an old friend. Looking forward to whatever Ubisoft has in store for AC's future.
" instead of doing a Square Enix, it appears Ubisoft"
Ha ha. That's true Square Enix are never happy it seems with game sales. I am happy for Unisoft they make some great games. I pre ordered Black Flag it's a brilliant game.
@Frmknst yeah, it's so awful that it has already sold over 3 million copies eye roll
@DennisReynolds it's everyone's favorite source of info, the "trust me bro" source.
@REALAIS do you ever back up your claims?
Now, will they learn the right or wrong lesson from this lol
Loved the game. Such a unique experience.
I think Ezio and Altair needed new refreshment first. I'm playing original again as PS4 games are still very solid and worth our time.
@ElPenitente Lol. Yeah as far as i'm away we don't know exact numbers but Ubi have said it fell within what they expected.
Very good. Assassin's Creed forever!!!
@DennisReynolds and ehy they told Active players and not sold units? But with AC BF straight away Sold copies. Listen more to Ubisoft PR. Better listen to Investors call before and after AC Shadows release and how they dodged all investors questions about that...
Black flag has a cult following. If they remake any other assassin's creed and expect these sales numbers they are in for a big disappointment.
@DennisReynolds and what is source for your claim? Whatever Ubisoft PR says? You really think that they will come out say all the truth when their company is getting downscaled all the time not because they are doing fantastic financially.
@DennisReynolds a quick google tells me they are estimated to be 5.7 million copies, which is more than what Rogue, Syndicate and possibly Mirage sold.
Again, according to Google.
@REALAIS You think Ubi is giving false numbers to shareholders?
So you have no real source and don't class Ubi as a source? You're just still salty over Yasuke still aren't you? You must be coping hard over The Odyssey
@DennisReynolds for example why more players have peaked on Steam for AC BF Resynced than AC Shadows? Aswell you will claim that it is irrelevant and doesnt say anything? So many things points to AC BF Resynced beeing more succesfull game for Ubisoft than AC Shadows but here I am bad guy )
@DennisReynolds about what numbers are you talking now? Prove it that they have given exact copies sold to investors. They didnt, I will help you. Only active players numbers. So stubborn, you are here active in gaming world and you are pretending that you dont know what is difference between "sold copies" and "active player accounts"?
For one I am supporting success fir AC Black flag, but you are stuck on "negativity" for AC Shadows
@REALAIS Give me a source backing your claim that the game done poorly.
Steam numbers for Black Flag are higher then Valhalla's all time peak yet Valhalla is the highest selling entry in the series.
@REALAIS Waiting for your source.
@DennisReynolds And I will wait for your source. No company is ever publishing data which paints them in bad light, but thay will straight away point out success which surpass their expactations.
Even in latest Earnings quarter report Ubisoft is bragging that AC BF Resynced has reached highest concurrent player count on Steam for any AC game. And why is that? Because it is good for them, even if they revenue for last 3 months ending June is down 13% compared to 2025 same 3 months. And they reassure they will keep looking to save more money going forward
@REALAIS why does he need to provide his source before yours when you were asked to first? Sounds like you're just gonna shift whatever goalposts you need to and act like you won anyway, even without posting your source.
I'd love to see Black Flag 2 set around 10–20 years after the original, during the decline of the Golden Age of Piracy. Either play as an older Edward Kenway in one last adventure or a new pirate mentored by him. Expand the map to include Cuba, Haiti, New Orleans, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico, with the Assassin-Templar conflict playing out as the pirate republics collapse.
I wonder if this is making Ubisoft think about making black flag 2?
It sounds super dope that they put a stealth button in their stealth game. I will give it another go, when I am done with Doom and Sektori.
Black Flag OG is one of the most overrated games I have played.
@Force This would be amazing, kinda like the RDR being set in time when cowboys and gunslingers were on the decline.
Woudnt trust Ubisoft with it, but as an idea its amazing.
Said it before and say it again: love Shadows, Valhalla and all modern AC but I feel we lost something unique with that shift. I hope this leads to more games like Mirrage and more remakes in between large “RPG” entries.
Also hope we get new DLC for Blackflag, or at least Freedom Cry.
Do hope future remakes add a bit more improvements/content.
@REALAIS So you can't provide a source and are admitting to making up lies then? Thank you.
@REALAIS @DennisReynolds Alinea Analytics source that has an estimate of numbers: https://alineaanalytics.substack.com/p/ghost-of-yotei-outsold-assassins
Do what you will with that info considering that the rest of the series typically sells well into double digits.
I'm not enjoying it if I'm honest. Not sure why.
Just feels awkward moving around. Combat is decent but general traversal feels stiff and clumbsy to me.
@DennisReynolds so you think Ubisoft stock tanking is a sign that shareholders believe that Shadows and other Ubi products sold fine at the time? I really hope someone else in your household manages your finances.
@ErrantRob was legit curious in this chat back and forth - thanks for sharing some actually useful info to dig into! Lol
@ErrantRob AA are widely known for pulling numbers out of their ass and frequently get contricticted when official numbers come in.
@For-Kier If you think stock tanking was in relation to AC then it shows how little you know and maybe should stop commenting on matters you don't understand.
Ubi have been nothing but positive over how it performed. In fact their last word on it on the matter is the Switch 2 release helped it over perform. Prove me wrong though with official sales numbers.
@DennisReynolds why do I get the feeling you’d be unhappy with any source I provide? They’ve been accurate for quite a while now (less than 5% error) on almost every given occasion. You asked for a source, but I can tell there would be no pleasing you.
@ErrantRob Where did they get the numbers from. Most sites refuse to use them now and even PQ will say they have a history of not being right when they use them for an article.
@ErrantRob Just done a quick Google search and even the AI is saying they aren't reliable due to the method they get their "estimations" from. Turns out guessing numbers based on user numbers, reviews and engagement isn't a good way to get accurate numbers. AA you see don't post the actual numbers they pretty guess the numbers.
I am playing this every chance I get, and have since release. They did pretty much everything right with this remake. It looks great. It feels great to play. The added stuff works well. It was a super fun pirate sim in 2013, and it still is in 2026 with some nice improvements.
I am glad this is doing well, because if you are going to do a remake/remaster, this is exactly how to do it.
i remember the rumor was they already had more then 1 remake happening that included black flag so it sounds like we'll at least see one more remake , but with it selling pretty good i think we'll see a few at least to bridge between new games , we all know Hexe is the next new game. hopefully that means we'll get new dlc for black flag though , they've been talking about adding new stuff.
@DennisReynolds dude take a break from the internet. You do this cyclical argument every time. “Show me where the sales numbers didn’t perform” blah blah blah. The proof is the fact that they immediately decided to share numbers for AC Resync and never have/will with Shadows.
Btw, change your name you do a disservice to the character.
@DartLOD Hey i just go by facts and logic. Fact is Ubi said they were happy, said it met expectations and said around the Switch 2's release its over performed because of the S2 release. If you think Ubi are lying its best you report then for lying to shareholders. Also as the other person said they didn't give out numbers for Vahalla either.
I'd eat my hat if Shadows didn't turn a healthy profit.
I don't get the hate. It was a decent game.
I'd say it was the weakest of the new style games (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, Mirage) but for me that was because they'd originally planned Yasuke as a DLC and tried to fudge it together with the Naoe story late in the day.
Basically tried to create a GTA V-esque multi character system, having not planned that from the start, resulting in it making no sense and not working.
Gameplay and graphics were still great.
@Dogbreath i never understood the hate for shadows either , but to each their own , i love the game , people can not like it , but i feel like a lot of people hate it for the wrong reasons which is silly.
