Halo Fares a Hair Better on PS5 Than Xbox, with PS5 Pro the Best Place to Play 1

Tech experts Digital Foundry have released one of the more interesting console comparisons of the generation, featuring Halo: Campaign Evolved.

The long-time Xbox system seller is making its PlayStation debut with this single player remake, and Sony’s console is actually the best place to play.

If you’re on base PS5 hardware, then you’ll benefit from a smoother frame rate during cutscenes – even if other settings are practically identical to the Xbox Series X.

This is true for both the game’s Quality and Performance modes, with the latter largely recommended, despite the former featuring more foliage and slightly better visual details.

PS5 Pro takes the base console’s Quality mode and repurposes it as Performance mode, meaning you benefit from all the graphical bells-and-whistles at a smooth 60fps.

It also drops fewer frames overall and enjoys clearer image quality, thanks in part to the use of PSSR2.

All in all, the game runs really well on all hardware configurations, and features many of Unreal Engine 5’s more advanced features at 60fps, like Lumen and Nanite.

There’s very little to choose between the PS5 and Xbox Series X, although Sony’s base console does have the slightest of edges here.

But if you happen to have a PS5 Pro, then that’s the place to play.

It’s good to see Microsoft turn in a great PlayStation version day-and-date here, and hopefully it’ll be rewarded with sales that mean Halo continues to find a home on PS5 moving forward, like its developer originally said.
