Re: Game of the Year: Push Square Readers' Top 20 PS5 Games of 2025

@species how is implying that you’re an arbiter toxic, when you just dictated that Yotei ā€œhad no right to be in the top 3ā€? There was no opining about the way you said it, it was stated as if it were a matter of fact.

Honestly Push Square where do you find these… well I’ll say people as I don’t want the post to be removed.

Re: Game of the Year: Push Square Readers' Top 20 PS5 Games of 2025

@themightyant is it so hard to believe that some people may like Yotei more? I believed that Pure Xbox’s Ben Kerry liked South of Midnight more than Expedition 33… and I’d argue that the majority of gamers prefer GoY over SoM.

It just seems that Push Square opinions (from both staff and punters) are instantly resigned to fanboyism, while there is just as much evidence of this behaviour (if not more) on the other side of the divide.

Re: Going Platinum #5: The Sexy Brutale

@themightyant as I initially stated in my comment that was removed, so I forgive you for not being aware of that… it’s just my two pence worth ie. my opinion that this editorial series would gain more traction if it detailed a trophy journey that required the gamer to actually overcome challenges and adversity. While I still believe that opinion is correct, I’m only too aware that it is simply my opinion.

@Quintumply that’s fine, I’ve just been consuming platinum content for almost 10 years now, and I have an understanding of what gets hits and what doesn’t. Generally trophy hunters like to hear about the trials and tribulations that someone experienced when attempting a challenging plat-chase… even if they end up failing.

As I said in my original constructive feedback, which was unceremoniously removed due to being adjudged to be unconstructive… it’s just my two penneth and was only provided as I want all trophy hunting content to succeed.

Re: Game of the Year: Liam's Top 5 PS5 Games of 2025

I’d say that the top 3 here are pretty much the ā€˜accepted’ top 3 across the PlayStation strata… 4 and 5 are somewhat arguable either way. I own 1, 2, 3 and 5… and am yet to play any of them. Judging from my personal tastes though, I’m thinking my top 3 will probably end up being 1. DS2, 2. GoY and E33: CO… but I am curious to find out if the latter hits me for 6, as it has with the majority of people.

Hell yeah I death skilled ochu… & all the adamantortoises that I had to farm! 🤣

I actually messed up my MGS4 run a bit though. I’m sure the minimum playthroughs was around 8 if you got everything perfect… but I had to do another two or three if memory serves 😔

Re: Going Platinum #5: The Sexy Brutale

@GamingGod it’s not as bad as is generally reported tbh, nowhere near as difficult as I found MGS2… which seems to get far less notoriety for some reason.

As far as your trophy hunting goes, I did the FFXIII plat last year as it goes… one hell of a grind! Bloodborne actually popped my cherry as an interesting aside. šŸ˜‰

Re: Going Platinum #5: The Sexy Brutale

@GamingGod aye I’ve watched many of Adam McDermott’s platinum journeys… and the takeaway I’ve always had is that the tough plats get the views.

Also, in reference to your comment… I’ve plat’d every souls game & MGS4 šŸ˜‰

Re: Going Platinum #5: The Sexy Brutale

@PuppetMaster maybe you misunderstood… what I’m saying is, that if he continues to simply plat what he likes, the lack of engagement will kill this series. As a plat-hunter myself, I want this series to succeed.

Before all the hate from some quarters that a Square Pusher would dare to plough the depths of fanboyism to rate a PlayStation exclusive above their beloved third party french RPG that they feel some strange loyalty too as it was on Gamepass… I want to applaud the diverse entries that are turning up on these lists so far.

And before the retort… one of your unquestionably objective Pure Xbox writers just rated South of Midnight as their best game of the year, and therefore above Expedition 33, so don’t even bother complaining that a game of Death Stranding 2’s quality was rated similarly.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 612

Started Ultra Age last night. It’s a pretty average character-action game in all honesty but wanted to find something relatively short to finish off my years trophy hunting with a round number.

Also, I’m still on Resident Evil: Revelations! My co-op partner sent me some homework to study last night, as we hit our umpteenth roadblock during yesterdays session šŸ˜…

Re: Going Platinum #3: Tales from the Borderlands

I’m currently in the process of trying to plat Borderlands 2 as it goes (the level grind to 50 is real) btw.

After god-knows how many hours I’ve put into BL2, I am pretty over it atm… but, I have enjoyed it and do plan on play’n (& plat’n) all other Borderlands games over the coming years (including the Tales of… instalments). I’ve heard loads of good things about this first one but not so much about its sequel. Might play this first one as a Christmas wind-down while it’s at the forefront of my mind šŸ¤”

@get2sammyb yeah I get you, it did look like MS were all-in back in 2022… and if they’d remained with that all-in mentality ie. we’ll buy up the industry and then have all games exclusive to our platform, I’m sure it would’ve been the death knell for PlayStation.

I guess that we didn’t foresee how some major expenditure would bring Xbox more under the focus of Sauron’s eye though. That and the need for major tech corporations to invest all available funds into AI caused there to be a complete turnaround in the expected outcome.

There really needs to be a dramatisation made about all this, it’s ripe for the picking!

The amount of fumbles that have resulted from Microsoft buying ActiBliz is actually quite impressive. I remember vividly the jubilation amongst the Xbox fanbase and the concern within PlayStation circles when the acquisition was first announced… but wow.

Cries of ā€œLet us competeā€ replete with documentation showing Microsoft execs to be gleeful at the thought of having their foot on PlayStation’s throat due to the potential of ā€œspending them out of businessā€ā€¦ but not only did it lead to massive lay-offs, studio closures and going full third party, but now the unstoppable force that is CoD is staring to look a lot more ā€˜stoppable’. Incredible!
