Mewgenics is the latest game from the minds behind The End Is Nigh and The Binding of Isaac, and the question of whether it'll make it onto consoles has been floating around since its PC launch.

Well, if there was any doubt, it can be cast aside as console ports for the turn-based tactical roguelike game have been more-or-less confirmed.

Designer Edmund McMillen has teased a Switch 2 version of Mewgenics, while Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis — the studio behind the console versions of The Binding of Isaac — followed up with footage of the game running on PS5.

To prove it's a PS5 running the game, the control centre is pulled up using the PS button.

So, yes, Mewgenics really is heading to PS5 — now it's just a question of when.

The PC version launched in February of this year, so it's still early days. It's only been around six weeks since then, but hopefully we'll be playing the PS5 edition soon. At the very least, it's nice to know it's coming.

As mentioned, Mewgenics is a turn-based strategy game with heavy roguelike elements. When out on a run, the core gameplay resembles something like XCOM; you move each of your cats one by one and use their unique abilities to defeat enemies.

Between runs, you return home, where you can breed cats; their offspring will inherit some of their parents' traits, resulting in more versatile and powerful felines for future attempts.

The game has been highly praised for its vast amount of depth, interwoven systems, and absurd number of items, abilities, and so on.
