Mewgenics is the latest game from the minds behind The End Is Nigh and The Binding of Isaac, and the question of whether it'll make it onto consoles has been floating around since its PC launch.
Well, if there was any doubt, it can be cast aside as console ports for the turn-based tactical roguelike game have been more-or-less confirmed.
Designer Edmund McMillen has teased a Switch 2 version of Mewgenics, while Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis — the studio behind the console versions of The Binding of Isaac — followed up with footage of the game running on PS5.
To prove it's a PS5 running the game, the control centre is pulled up using the PS button.
So, yes, Mewgenics really is heading to PS5 — now it's just a question of when.
The PC version launched in February of this year, so it's still early days. It's only been around six weeks since then, but hopefully we'll be playing the PS5 edition soon. At the very least, it's nice to know it's coming.
As mentioned, Mewgenics is a turn-based strategy game with heavy roguelike elements. When out on a run, the core gameplay resembles something like XCOM; you move each of your cats one by one and use their unique abilities to defeat enemies.
Between runs, you return home, where you can breed cats; their offspring will inherit some of their parents' traits, resulting in more versatile and powerful felines for future attempts.
The game has been highly praised for its vast amount of depth, interwoven systems, and absurd number of items, abilities, and so on.

This, Slay the Spire 2 and Hades 2 need dates.
The anticipation is killing me
Im so ready to sink over 9000 hours into this!
@Simon_Fitzgerald It's a special and extremely addicting game, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.
The only thing I'll warn you of beforehand is that I hate playing it with a controller. I started out doing that - on both PC and Steam Deck - but the game's really not built for it, in my opinion. Obviously you might end up having no problems, but I hope they can fine tune controller play for the console releases.
@LordAinsley Hades II is excellent!
Nice, good to see they are working on porting this game
Megabonk could do with a PS5 port too, I liked it on the Steamdeck, I'd hope they can pull off the controls on console. Like a lot of PC games I always make the switch when/if they come to PS5. It looks like I'll be making the switch with Mewgenics too.
Ahh 🤔… it won’t run at 8K & 1200 fps with path-tracing though peasants 🧐 /s
@LordAinsley I think Hades 2 will be a year exclusivity with Nintendo unfortunately. I fully expect it to release on 25th September this year.
I've nearly pulled the trigger on it for Steam Deck but I want the trophies....
Really like Mewgenics, I keep playing it here and there.
@Markatron84 Hard agree on the controller support. I play on Steamdeck when I’m not on PC but it’s so much easier with a mouse. Even just adding a button for End Turn would go a long way and the cat management in the house becomes extremely cumbersome as you get more cats. Still an incredible game though.
@GeeEssEff it's a shame for me personally, because Mewgenics was going to be my new go-to game on Steam Deck, but of my 109 hours, very little has been played there. It's not outright unplayable but yeah it's so much easier and snappier to get things done with a mouse.
