Ever since Final Fantasy 16 didn’t meet its lofty sales expectations as a timed PS5 exclusive, Square Enix has been on a tear promoting its new multiformat business.

Funny, because as far as we can see, it still covets exclusivity where it suits.

Nintendo DS remaster Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD ran counter to everything it was saying publicly when it deployed as a Switch 2 exclusive last year, but we shrugged it off as a console launch anomaly.

But today the game has released on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC – there’s no PS5 version in sight.

This follows the critically acclaimed Panoramasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, which launched earlier this year as a Switch, PC, and mobile exclusive.

It seems there’s potentially some kind of deal with Microsoft at play here, because the game supports Play Anywhere, which is an initiative that tends to be utilised by titles with Redmond’s fingerprints on them.

We do anticipate a PS5 port of this game will arrive eventually – it’ll surely sell several magnitudes better on Sony’s machine than Microsoft’s.

But right now, PlayStation fans find themselves snubbed yet again.

Frankly, the next time Square Enix wants to wax lyrical about its multiformat approach, we don’t want to hear it.
