Two and a half years after the Xbox, PC release and following months of rumours, it's official: Bethesda RPG Starfield is coming to PS5, releasing on 7th April 2026.

This is the biggest and most comprehensive version of Starfield to date, as the base game arrives on PS5 alongside its first expansion, Shattered Space, as well as a newly revealed DLC in Terran Armada and a substantial free update called Free Lanes.

The base game costs $50, or you can opt for the Premium Edition which includes the two expansions: Shattered Space and Terran Armada. It's $70, and Bethesda values the new DLC, Terran Armada, at $10 when bought standalone.

Starfield PS5 Push Square 2

"Starfield represents one of Bethesda Game Studios’ most ambitious projects, and since launch in 2023 the game has continued to grow. New content, game systems, fan‑requested features, a story expansion, quality-of-life updates, and over 1000 community Creations have deeply enriched the universe," said Bethesda.

Now, the company calls next month's overhaul and PS5 release the "biggest update to the game since launch", making it the "most complete version" of Starfield there's ever been.

Free Lanes Update

Free Lanes is a new update that expands on the core Starfield title by allowing for interplanetary travel in systems. You can "use cruise mode to travel from planet to planet within a star system, where they’ll experience frequent encounters and activities and spend some quality time on their ship with their crew".

The patch also adds the following to the base game:

  • New locations A number of new Encounters, POIs, Dungeons, notable increase in variety for players to discover

  • Starborn Improvement — Ability to bring a limited number of items through the Unity to a NG+

Bethesda then concluded: "Together, these launches mark the next chapter for Starfield, bringing its most complete and refined experience to more players as the universe continues to expand."

Starfield originally released to a Metacritic rating of 85, and has since been continually updated with improvements and fresh content. The version arriving on 7th April 2026 will be the most comprehensive edition of it yet.
