Re: Movie Review: Uncharted - Glossy Green Screen Spectacle Isn’t Entirely Sure Who It's For

Master_Shake

I give it an 8/10 as a movie and a 0/10 as an Uncharted adaptation. The main three (Sully, Nathan, and Chloe) are both not similar to their game personalities (especially Sully) and highly miscast (especially Sully). However, if you go in understanding that this is some random adventure movie and Uncharted in name only then you get some solid entertainment. Really liked the third act in particular.

Re: Square Enix Reveals New Final Fantasy VII Anniversary Logos, Hopes You're 'Ready for the Year Ahead'

Master_Shake

I first borrowed the game and the strategy guide from a friend. I remember looking at the character art and limit breaks and thinking "this is gonna be epic". Even then, nothing could have prepared me for the story and music and atmosphere and moments of that game. I went from a bro-gamer to JRPG fanatic by the end of the game. Watching the credits roll and thinking to myself, "wow, I didn't know a game could make me feel like this."

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Realistically Expect from PS5, PS4's Game Pass Inspired PS Plus Reboot?

Master_Shake

Sony can and will launch as a poor comparison. That is because, unlike Xbox, Sony has no intention of turning its business model full tilt into a rental subscription service. The rebrand's goal is to make better use of PS Now, bolster PS Plus, and give Sony "something" as an alternative. But Sony has no intention of beating out Xbox, so you won't see it making moves to take down Game Pass and instead just be a solid offering for the value paid. And as has been the case since before launch, the supposed thing that "Sony can't afford to do", Sony will in fact afford to do while still maintaining its success.

Re: God of War PC Looks Magical in Spoiler Heavy Ultrawide Trailer

Master_Shake

Slightly off-topic. For anyone who has never tried one, check out an ultrawide monitor. It is super immersive for games due to capturing your peripheral vision and most movies are shot in ultrawide so if you watch a movie in this resolution it feels more cinematic. I've had one since 2016 and I will never go back.

Re: Rumour: Survey Leaks Armored Core 6, Dark Souls Daddy Miyazaki Is Creative Lead

Master_Shake

Always loved this series. If this and Twisted Metal by Lucid Games are both real then I can finally have some PS multiplayer that I enjoy back on the system. Every time I see someone ask "Where is the FPS exclusive?", I think to how I would instead prefer these kinds of experiences. I would also add that Miyazaki had already discussed that Armored Core 6 was a thing before Elden Ring was announced but I wrote it off thinking they must have cancelled it. Looking at the screenshots, this would definitely be another Armored Core and maybe mixed with some Soulslike design elements?!

Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

Master_Shake

Sony has no intention of competing with Game Pass. Its intention is to make proper use of PS Now as opposed to dumping it. One thing this site continues to do is misinterpret Sony's desire to make more money as the desire to beat out the competition. This site also seems to think that Sony (or Nintendo for that matter) is deeply motivated to avoid negative comparisons. Sony can't beat Xbox at services but it doesn't need to. It needs to make the best of its position. Day and date can't be sustained for Sony because it can't manage years of losses unlike Xbox. But what Sony can do is follow its traditional model along with a derivative, inferior version of Game Pass to great success. The idea that disaster awaits for doing the (typical for Sony) approach of half-assing a copy of the competitor's idea is ridiculous. Sony has done this many times with PSN, PS Plus, and Playstation Move. Sony will be fine. The real question is after the latest round of "Sony can't afford to do X." followed by Sony affording to do it, will this site stop writing its articles in such hyperbolic and fatalistic prose.

Re: Japanese Publisher Implies PlayStation Audience Is Transitioning to PC

Master_Shake

I am super confused about the responses to this article. Japanese games have been getting put on Steam for years and it was obvious that PC gamers would buy them there. How does Japanese devs putting games on PC and gamers buy them there equal Sony made this happen. Literally, Sony does not own these games. As one of the very gamers who used to by Japanese developed games on PS and now buys them on PC, it never had anything to do with Sony. I was always gonna buy them as soon as they weren't only on PS. Xseed started doing it and then their success lead to other Japanese devs releasing everything on PS and Steam. It has been going on since at least the beginning of last gen in 2014. I'm aware that people on this site have some bizarre fear of PC gaming but this specific issue is both beyond Sony's control and has nothing to do with their recent efforts on putting their exclusives on PC. Japanese games are also going to appear more on the Switch because people are willing to buy them there and it is that simple.

Re: Hands On: Don't Sleep on Voice of Cards - It Could Be a Special RPG

Master_Shake

Demo sold it for me. It is sort of like Paper Mario. It is a fantasy JRPG that uses an aesthetic of cards to present the world. The story seemed pretty conventional but, knowing Yoko Taro, I feel like it will take a hard left at some point. This and Midnight Suns are currently buys for me (even though I don't do card games) because I feel like there are gonna be some hidden depths.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Showcase 2021 Was Good, But Not Good Enough

Master_Shake

Welp, now for the "hell to pay" as commenters lament Sony not being like old Sony and threaten to leave for greener pastures while spending every article re-threatening to leave again and again and again... All with the wonderful backdrop of PS5s constantly selling out and these same people questioning where can they find one.

Re: Soapbox: After a Year of Silence, Today's PlayStation Showcase Can't Afford Dead Air

Master_Shake

Sony doesn't NEED to do almost any of what keeps being described here. Sony didn't need to respond to Xbox after VGA 2019 immediately. It didn't need to have an E3 event. There won't be "hell to pay" if they don't blow us away. The truth is that hype showcases are a marketing utility but by no means a timely necessity. They are done to announce and market upcoming games. What NEEDS to blow us away is the actual games themselves and as long as the content continues to impress, Sony can go about the showcases as arbitrarily as they decide to.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut Is Superb, But Sony Shouldn't Be Charging Extra for PS5 Upgrade

Master_Shake

I understand the norms of the market but I don't think I will ever feel right with saying "You need to do this work for free." I will agree that it would benefit Sony from a goodwill perspective as it does for the other companies that do it. But if they choose not to because they want to charge you for the extra work, to me, that is just a break even situation.

Re: Poll: Does Sony Need a Big PS5 Showcase This Summer?

Master_Shake

@lacerz Absolutely. How else can Sony sate the desire for hype and optics unless they layout a roadmap of CGI trailers with names attached? Don't they know that gaming is all about dreaming of the future and not providing good games in the present? Well...at least until the same people demanding more hype start criticizing them for showing everything too early and not having enough new hype to show.

Re: Reaction: It's Time to Accept We Can't Predict PlayStation Anymore

Master_Shake

I just think Sony is in a place of transition and with the effect the pandemic has had on their plans, they simply made a choice. 'We will announce the things that we can nail down and no more.' Once they feel in control of their timeline again, I think they will be more transparent. But I do think keeping things close to the chest means that we don't have the 2017-2020 E3 redundancy due to them showing off years of upcoming games so early.

Re: Poll: Did E3 2021 Suck?

Master_Shake

The only good announcements to me were: Elden Ring, Mario+Rabbits, STALKER 2, Stranger of Paradise, and Advance Wars Remake. For someone like me who normally gets interested in a ton of games after each E3, this was pathetic.

Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy

Master_Shake

A lot of what I thought I would see is in 2022 and by then we can have crowds again. The announcements weren't there and the format wasn't there and so many of the events just didn't need to happen. Should have just skipped this year and welcomed it back next year. E3 2021 may have hurt the concept of E3.

Re: Reaction: Xbox Game Pass Is the Thorn in PS5's Side

Master_Shake

No its not becoming difficult to justify paying full price because the games that are the biggest 3rd parties (Madden, 2K, COD, Fifa, Battlefield) won't launch on Gamepass. And this argument never references Nintendo or Steam who will just keep selling full priced games. People will buy good games at full price because they are good games. That's just how it works. It gives Xbox some appeal but people aren't going to avoid playing Spider-Man 2 because of its price point.
