Nihon Falcom, the company behind the Trails franchise — with the Trails of Cold Steel games being the most well known here in the West — and Ys, will be celebrating 40 years of development with a special concert. Said concert will be livestreamed next week, on the 24th June.
Normally we wouldn't pay too much attention to Japan-based events like this, but this particular show is being promoted in English, in partnership with New Game+ Expo. This suggests that there might be something for Western fans to look out for.
Just to be clear, we wouldn't get your hopes up for anything huge — these "special announcements" could be anything. That said, Trails fans have been waiting on localisation news for a number of games that are already available in Japan. Most notably, Hajimari no Kiseki — essentially an all-star follow-up to Trails of Cold Steel IV — and the PS4 remasters of both Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki. The last two are regarded by many as the best games in the entire franchise, so it'd be nice to see them finally be released overseas in an official capacity.
There's also Kuro no Kiseki, perhaps better known as Trails in the Dark, or Trails of Dark/Shadow — the latest Trails title that's currently in development. It comes out in Japan this September, but there's been no word on localisation.
If anything relevant does occur during this event, we'll be sure to write about it. In the meantime, let us know which Trails games you'd love to hear about in the comments section below.

I think I’d cry if the Crossbell games got localised and not in a good way. Was a nightmare playing Zero in English as my save ability would disappear if my Vita went into sleep mode at all while playing. Lost about 10 hours worth of playing across my playthrough. So if that was all for nothing then I’d reevaluate my life choices.
I still gotta do nightmare playthrough for cs3 & cs4 but I love news for potential western releases. Such an amazing world they've built over a number of decades.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!!!!!!
This excites me! The Trails of Cold Steel games are some of my favourite games ever. Ys is pretty awesome too.
Maybe they will start doing worldwide releases from now on ... nah that would be too impossible
Give me Crossbell, pls.
eagerly waiting for anything new about Kuro, but since this stream is catering to the Western audience pretty sure it won't be shown. just 3 more months though! 🙃
Cool, will keep an eye on it.
I suspect it will be something Kuro no Kiseki related. It would seem strange to announce a localisation at a Japanese event.
I would expect the localisation of Hajimari no Kiseki sometime in 2022. With both Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki never being localised.
Be worth watching for the concert alone, regardless of any announcements. Falcom soundtracks are fantastic
I am loving trails of cold steel 1 right now.
Well considering NISA is also promoting this event, we'll be getting localization news.
Would love to see a localization for the zero/ao kai games on ps4. I am currently playing the geofront localization of zero on vita. Since there is currently no indication for the ao geofront patch to be ported to vita, this may be the best way to continue the story.
Realistically however, there is no chance for this, we’ll most likely see hajimari and kuro western release announcements.
They need to do a sequel to Tokyo Xanadu (Ex+).
I would like a hajimari localisation announcement.
Trails in the Sky Trio? Not a PC gamer and no other way to play 3rd. 2nd Chapter dragged on heavy though.
If this is a Japanese event, then I wouldn't expect a major localization. What teased me is NISAmerica Twitter account retweeted the NGPX post with 👀👀👀👀💦💦💦💦💦 emojis, so maybe it warrants an expectation. Whatever the announcements are, Nihon Falcom jdk produced some of the best tracks in video game so seeing the band perform live virtually will be a huge treat.
I hope for a collection of the collection steel games.
@GigaGaia I doubt it as they made a point to not start localization work until the game releases in Japan.
But, it would be nice to see the lag between releases lowered to a year or less.
But, you never know. Maybe with the changes in the japanese market they are looking to take the western market more seriously.
I just hope the quality of the games doesn't suffer.
@AchievingGamer You don't have to be negative like that. But, given we are about 2 years behind and ys9 just released, we know there is nothing Ys coming soon.
It's gonna be hajimari/kuro or crossbell related, if anything.
Here's hoping they bring over the previously released 3 games, and the upcoming title as well!
@AndyKazama Is it that good i never got to play it?
@Flaming_Kaiser yeah I'd so. It's ys VIII gameplay except the story is more Persona.
@AndyKazama Ill check it out then thanks.
