Re: Sony on Upcoming PS5 Games: Wait Until You See What's Coming from Our Third-Party Partners

MS7000

This is just words at the moment. Sony might have the best line-up ever to reveal, but until that happens, I couldn't care less. It's like Nintendo claiming they have loads of new games ready for this year; sure you do Nintendo, sure you do. I know this sounds negative, but I would rather the industry start showing us some of these games than teasing. The constant "hype" is starting to grate on me now.

Re: PS5 Console Sales Reach 7.8 Million, Beating PS4's Record

MS7000

@eltomo Not quite how I would describe PS5 (quite significantly more powerful with faster loading times), but yeah, at the moment, doesn't appeal to me either. My biggest gripe is that only a couple of games coming to PS5 I can't play on PS4, and the better resolution/performance isn't worth the £450 so I don't see the need to upgrade yet. I am sure that in a year or two though it should be more appealing then.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying Returnal?

MS7000

I mean, I don't think £70 is a good price for any game unless it is a limited/special edition, and even then I would have to think about it. But then again, I think the PS5 is too expensive at present, so even if I could get, I wouldn't. Of course, PS5 will probably stay expensive for a few years yet.

Re: Returnal Trophy List Spawns Another Easy Platinum from Sony

MS7000

I dunno, whilst I am more likely to play a game through to completion if the platinum is somewhat achievable, I sometimes think some trophies can be too easy to obtain (not just platinums, though I would argue the Persona dancing games are quite easy to platinum).

I was playing Code Vein last night, brand new save, never played before, was playing for about an hour or two, and unlocked a silver trophy called "Together Until Oblivion". The condition was listening to a partner speak 50 times. That feels really easy for a bronze trophy, let alone a silver which it actually was. I wish games had better trophy/achievement balance in general. You don't need easy trophies to sell a game... a cheaper price though perhaps; £70 is a bit much.

I should point out hard platinums won't normally stop me from at least beating the game, I just won't go after the platinum.

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Losing Ground to Xbox?

MS7000

I feel like I am in this interesting (and frustrating) position where I don't like where the entire industry is going. None of the big 3 are doing anything I am particularly happy with. Xbox seem intent on putting all of their effort into Game Pass and streaming which I don't like as I have never liked subscription services and from an ownership perspective, cloud is scary to me.

On the otherhand, Sony are charging £450 for a console where quite a significant portion of it's library for the time being will also be available on PS4, not to mention, games costing £70. Heck I frown at paying £50 for a new game especially if I am not sure if I am going to like it. Sure, PS5 might play those games better but eh, not enough for me to want to buy right now.

On the subject of game prices, I normally only pay full price for Nintendo games, but from my perspective, they seem to be obsessed with bringing the back catalogue from the Wii U and 3DS to the Switch. This is fine for me until I realise they are charging full price for minimal improvements on games that I played within the last decade, in what seems to be in the absence of new games.

E3 got reconfirmed this week, but I am honestly not excited, which I find strange. I want to like what I see and hear, and some games planned for the future sound great, but they are so far in the future it is difficult to be excited for.

I realise these are all personal problems on my end, and I don't think I can fairly say which company is doing better right now. All I know is that Sony doing a game passesque service does not interest me one bit. Sure, the potential value might be better than buying my games indivudually but I do prefer tangible games than hoping it will forever remain in a subscription library.

Re: Next-Gen PSVR Controllers Revealed, Includes Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers

MS7000

@tameshiyaku "...the move controller, despite it's flaws, has remained relevant across three generations! I can't think of another official console controller that can claim that."

I guess you could technically count the Gamecube controller (4 gens, GC, Wii, Wii U, Switch) but yeah, the PS Move has survived through an awful lot. It's always interesting seeing gaming tech that lives longer than anyone gave it credit for. =)

Edit: Somehow missed Grumblevolcano's comment saying the same thing. My bad.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do You Replay Games?

MS7000

Most replays I do are typically because I missed something. At present, I have returned to Yakuza 0 the other day to finish up the completition list and consequently the platinum trophy (Batting and Climax battles, I can see stopping me from that), then I will be replaying the story on Legend difficulty. Currently at 96%.

Outside of unfinished business, I typically replay games that I hold dear to me. Zelda games like the N64 titles and a Link to the Past get replayed purely because I enjoy them so much that I find it relaxing for the most part. Other games I return to on a whim, normally because something causes me to remember specific moments from the game. Then I guess I get all nostalgic for thise previous experiences.

Re: Call of Duty's Season 2 Update Juiced UK Download Record

MS7000

"this is because the next-gen console’s curious file unpacking format requires there to be at least 100GB of spare space before it’ll even download Call of Duty patches."

What, why?

Is this a thing on PS4 as well? Am I being stupid or is there a technical reason for this?

Of course it would be COD of all things that would cause this download record though.

Re: PS Store Discontinues Movie, TV Rentals and Purchases in August

MS7000

shrug

Not gonna lie, I never saw the appeal of buying that content through the PS store anyway. Why have the content locked to that one ecosystem? Unless I am massively misunderstanding something. Sucks for those who did buy this way though.

Regarding streaming services, the last thing we need is yet another. Place is oversaturated as is anyway.

Re: Rumour: Konami to Outsource Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania IPs

MS7000

@Juanalf This. I was about to say that anyone they lend too, I doubt they could do much worse.

That said, I can't really ever see Metal Gear returning. I don't think Kojima wants, Konami doesn't know what to do, and it can't be too appealing for a third company to work within such convoluted plot and setting.

Re: Share Your Gaming Stats with Spotify-Esque PlayStation Wrap Up 2020

MS7000

I think my data collection is turned off, so it does not work for me. Big games would probably of been the Yakuza games and Persona 5 Royal...

I really wish this info was just available freely to access when desired instead of these wrap ups. I love seeing how my 3DS usage has changed over the years, but I cannot see the same for PS4.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 Story of 2020

MS7000

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim keeps popping up so it must be good. I can't really fairly judge as the only game I have played on that list is Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and even then, I am only 7 chapters in. Ichiban is not Kiryu, but I think Ichiban has such outstanding personality that I am looking forward to the rest of the game with him.

Re: Game of the Year: Liam's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2020

MS7000

@Gaming365247 This must be at least the 3rd or 4th one of these articles where I have seen you do this.

Chill. People like games, people don't like games, accept it.

Anyway, regarding the list. Not played any of these, but I have just picked up DOOM Eternal, and I am very much looking to start my New Year with that once I finish up Yakuza 7.

Re: Game of the Year: Lloyd's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2020

MS7000

@Darten Going from this list probably not... =)

Looking through my backlog history, I either beat or complete,:

Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition
Yakuza 3
Yakuza 4
Yakuza 5
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
Dragon Quest Builders
Persona 5 Royal
NieR: Automata
Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair
MediEvil
Overcooked! 2
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Judgment

In reflection, this year for me seems to have mostly been Yakuza. Currently playing Yakuza 7 right now.

@LobsterJohnson Honestly not sure. The only two games that came out this year that I have played (not including Yakuza ports) are Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Persona 5 Royal. Persona 5 Royal would probably be at the top, purely by the fact that I have finished that, and not yet finished Yakuza: LaD. But even that is an enhanced version of an existing game, so... shrug

Re: Reaction: How Does It Keep Going Wrong for Big Game Launches?

MS7000

To be fair, I think Sony only intervened for two reasons:

-The visibility of this game is significantly higher than some other major "Triple A" releases which have released in similar states. The 8 million pre-order figure I feel is proof of the visibility.
-CDPR seemingly threw Sony under the bus with the refund situation.

I feel like Sony would of left well enough alone otherwise.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Aiming to Be a 'Playable, Stable Game without Glitches and Crashes'

MS7000

"Cyberpunk 2077 Aiming to Be a 'Playable, Stable Game without Glitches and Crashes'"

This headline reminds me of times where it was commonly expected for games to actually launch finished without bugs and glitches from the get go, and not needing to be patched...

Games are a right mess nowadays in that sense. Sure, some aren't as bad, but most still have a day-one patch nowadays... sigh

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Pricing Is Setting Releases Like Returnal Up to Fail

MS7000

I am not sure what the strategy is here. I would of thought higher prices would convince people to not buy at launch. I can't see this staying this way for long. To be fair though, I very rarely buy my games at launch anyway. Just wait a few months and it is typically cheap. For example, I recently brought DOOM Eternal for £15 and that only released in March. I know it doesn't include DLC, but it is still better than the £50-60 they expect at launch.
