Ouch, look away now Sony — the latest UK sales chart does not make for great reading from the Japanese company's perspective. Just two PlayStation games managed to make it into the top 10 of last week's list of the best-selling physical titles across the UK. Yes, only two. Those being Minecraft: Dungeons in fifth and FIFA 21 in eighth. The other eight slots are taken up by Nintendo Switch titles, with the most notable being Super Mario 3D All-Stars. It reaches second place as Nintendo prepares to kill the famous plumber in two days.
Elsewhere, it's business as usual for the Big N. Monster Hunter Rise enters the charts in first place while Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury make up the numbers. It's always worth remembering that these sales charts don't include digital purchases, so they're not quite as important as you might think. A lot of Sony games are bought digitally nowadays, and should they ever be included in these lists, the outlook is likely to look quite different.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 27th March 2021
- Monster Hunter Rise
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
- Minecraft: Dungeons
- Minecraft (Switch)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- FIFA 21
- Luigi's Mansion 3
- Super Mario Odyssey

Oh wow, savage.
I hope it will look different once PS Easter sales are on! Currently not many highly rated titles are on sale (because Easter will be huge!)
Hmph, reminds me I still haven't finished MHWorld from 2019. I get stuck in, meet a bigger monster that requires some grinding, then I get distracted by some other game. Maybe it doesn't do a good job of holding my interest for long but it's a fun game at times.
Like you said these UK charts are for physical sales only, so is isn't as it is a huge deal when it comes to software sales in the long and short run (especially when most of PS games are now bought digitally).
A nice chart to see that amount to little when it comes to overall sales if digital sales aren't accounted for.
@rpg2000 was about to say the same. Have always thought the switch would have more as physical cartridge sales than digital.
Good, i hope it stays that way until Sony have a word with themselves over the U.K pricing.
When your prices make Nintendo games look like a good deal, you know you've gone too far.
That feeling when I contributed to FIFA... feels bad man. I only brought it in a bundle because I wanted a controller.
@Loftimus The odd thing with Nintendo game versus PS5 is the pricing. They always seem to stay high for years while on PS5 within months they can be as low as £20 on sale. Its why I accepted buying Zelda at £50 when it came out versus knowing it makes no sense to buy a PS4/5 game full price.
I read late last year that these charts will start to include digital sales too, am I wrong?
lol
Y'alls love of soccer and minecraft are all that's keeping this from being indistinguishable from one of those weekly sales charts from Japan.
With that said, MHR is selling extremely well physically worldwide, and it seems to be doing even better on the eshop. And that trend will likely continue as more people are driven toward digital once it becomes difficult to find physically.
@StonyKL That's my approach as well. Nintendo games I want are bought Day One. Sony games I want will be purchased months later when the price depreciation has maxed out. There are a few exceptions both ways (Xenoblade Chronicles DE's price seems to have depreciated rather quickly in the U.S., and Ghost of Tsushima's price has stayed... well, not full price, but it has done a good job of maintaining its value over time), but, in general, this seems like a solid strategy for maximizing the value of my purchases.
@elchebib That happened for like two weeks a while ago. We have no idea what happened to them!
Nintendo Switch games aren't £/$70 so yeah no surprises in sight 😐
Wow only 3 of the games in the chart isn't exclusive, this really shows the importance of exclusive to console.
@Juanalf Nintendo games actually cheaper in my country, for example cartridge esrb version paper mario origami king price is only about $27 in here, and animal crossing new horizons about $47 😃
All these disclaimers about the lack of digital sales data start sounding like they assume few to no people buying things on eShop as well.😅
Only game I have played on Switch in 2021 is Bravely 2 (loved it). Next on my list is NMH3 in August.
Shadow PC (+ PC Game Pass) has taken the handheld duties for me.
Monster Hunter Rise is on my PC list - my cousins and I really need voice chat in a MH game after World. It was a hard sell at $60 without it for us.
But glad to know it is good.
Best part of Minecraft Dungeons charting is it was 90% sales on Switch.
Yikes.
Monster Hunter Rise deserves the top spot, its so amazing.
@Loftimus I'm fully with you on this.
£70 does not equal $70 so no way should we have to pay such an absurd price.
I'm boycotting Sony games at release till they drop.
Sony needs more PS5’s out there. Methinks it’s starting to affect software sales.
Everyone with a PS5 has already bought Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls. Get me a PS5, Sony, and I’ll buy some games!
Who’d have thought we’d live to see the day.
