My interest in first party PS output is at an all-time low. On the other hand, showcases always have the potential for some great third party announcements, so that's what'd get me to watch.
Might as well get burger recommendations from the McDonald's CEO if we're gonna take this guy seriously.
These people don't consume the goods they peddle. It's not just that they don't engage with the specific products, it's that they have no idea what makes a good game in the first place. Their takes are absolutely worthless.
Overall I'm actually positive on games in the short term future, but certainly not because of the glorified AAA slop that Svensson is most definitely praising here.
The original Steins;Gate isn't just my favorite visual novel, it's one of my favorite stories period. So yeah, I'll totally play this a third time, especially since there'll be new content and I do like the new art a lot overall (Suzuha in particular looks better than ever).
What a huge overreaction from people who "don't want more Yakuza".
It's clearly a very different title in mood, setting, time period and combat, so as far as connections go the most we'll likely be getting is some small references to Yakuza lore like the origins of the Tojo clan or whatever.
These designs are not my thing, but if that's what they want to go for, okay then. It's not like the dev is claiming their "armor" is realistic.
Whether it's revealing designs like these or the exact opposite, in the end there's just people from both ends of the horseshoe doing the exact same thing: crying about things that don't appeal to them. You'll never realize you're the same because that requires a tinge of self-awareness though.
Mostly making progress in Soul Hackers 2 since I want to get the platinum before they remove it from Extra on the 19th. It is for sure a lower budget Atlus experience, but it's been a while since I played anything SMT and I'm honestly having fun.
On the side I'm also trying out Neverness to Everness, which is pretty entertaining in its own right.
These petitions are made and signed by people who can't bear the thought of having no agency in the fate of things they like. Partaking in the petition gives them a brief illusion that they're doing something that matters and that's all there is to it.
Move on, enjoy other things. Far healthier and infinitely more productive.
What happened to that "failing early and cheaply" mindset moving forward that Hulst spoke of? Does it go out the window when the project in question is one of his dear babies?
Frankly, 95% of licensed anime games range from mediocre to trash and fail to capture even a fraction of the magic from the works they're "adapting". I'd rather see some original indies any day, even if they're not coming to PS5 at first.
@Americansamurai1 Only thing current Sony is interested in supporting is doomed live service peddlers.
A single player gritty gang story is so far out of their wheelhouse it wouldn't even be on the radar. Despite how it'd do wonders for their stagnating portfolio and wouldn't lose them nearly as much money as their live service tripe even if sales were soft.
And we can all see how that turned out. First party output is a shadow of what it used to be and they're bleeding money everywhere with their live service disasters.
Sure, kick out the one guy in charge who was actually passionate about videogames. That'll help Jimmy.
Hoping to wrap up my first playthrough of Wukong, or at least come close to it. Yesterday night I was about to finish Chapter 4 and I heard 5/6 are shorter (especially the sixth). We'll see how that goes.
I like sandbox/open world games so I might give this one a try.
I don't expect to play it in the long term like I do with ZZZ because juggling multiple gacha daily would feel like an unpaid job, and I'm good with just my paid one. But a few weeks of enjoying what the 1.0 version has to offer? Sure, why not.
If they want some actual feedback they'll have to do a public test, or at least a test that doesn't involve people whose only objective is to stay in Sony's good graces, such as access media.
Otherwise, they'll just get another Concord at launch, i.e. a decently made game that no one actually wants to play.
I guess the free-to-play model means they've learned something, at least?
Could be fun. Spanning several mythologies instead of focusing on one feels a tad double-edged in that it's great for variety but might result in only scratching the surface of each.
Now combine that with Tassi's other report that the game sold about 1.2 million copies and multiply that by 40 dollars. Except, Steam takes a cut between 30 and 20% from each copy and that's reportedly the game's biggest platform, so profits from base sales are significantly less than $48M.
Then factor in ongoing costs for servers as well as every employee still getting paid to keep the game going and boy oh boy, better hope those microtransactions are selling like hotcakes because this looks like a mighty flop.
Yeah I'm with you guys, my cancelled indie project was gonna be every bit as ambitious and feature-rich as Crimson Desert too. I've never written a line of code, but the best ideas were all in there, trust.
I'm sure narcissists will chomp at the bit for this, certainly not for me though.
I don't need to self-insert into games, let alone actually see myself in them. If anything, whenever character creation comes up I subconsciously make characters I've nothing in common with. Happy with my life and happy to let fictional characters take the reins in fictional stories.
I'd been randomly getting development vids of this game on my YouTube feed every now and then for like a year, always thought it looked fun but seemed like the kind of project that would be "in development" for a long time.
How do you, as a company, work on a game for 7 years, burn millions on it, bring it up to around 80% completion, then pit it against another project and decide to just can it? It's the level of commitment of a child that got distracted by his new toy.
Then there's the very valid point people always bring up that this project didn't need to get so needlessly big. Factions II with just a tad bigger scale than the first Factions would have been a success both commercially and in terms of player reception. Gotta feature creep everything into the ground I guess.
@themightyant Please. Even this very article's title is calling the game divisive, and apparently I'm the one trying to make up a disparity? Games media is hellbent on making this game's reception into something it's not.
You say "plenty of fans and online gamers" didn't like the game (despite the 80%+ positive averages) then you immediately go on to deny there's a split between critic and user opinions (despite the self-evident abundance of middling critic reviews, including this site's).
That's ironic enough, but then outside of reviews there's also plenty of games media write-ups trying to put the game down and diminish its accomplishments (IGN most of all), something so blatant that ignoring it is simply disingenuous. Even this piece of news about the game reaching 4 million sales can't help but repeat several times that "not everybody liked it!" because ultimately that's what they want people to remember about it.
"As mentioned, Crimson Desert hasn't won over everybody"
What game has? And it's certainly won over most people not associated with games journalism, as evidenced by user reviews across the board.
Speaking of which, when Pearl Abyss' stock dropped sharply following media reviews you guys made an article with the quickness, but now that their stock has rebounded and is at an all-time historical high, there hasn't been a peep about that. Makes one wonder.
Kinda glad I've been held up finishing other games before starting Crimson Desert, since all of these fixes are happening in the meantime. Feels like when I finally get to it, the launch experience and my own will be night and day.
I wouldn't mind paying 1000+ € for something I truly felt was a massive upgrade and worth the price.
PS6 will be neither of those. Diminishing returns and eternal dev cycles are very real, next gen hype is not. I'll be fine and dandy with my PS5, thanks.
At this point you could leave a blank where it says Final Fantasy, fill it in with pretty much any long-running series, and you'd still be correct. Younger audiences skew towards the same three or four popular multiplayer titles and that's about it.

Re: Destiny 2 Support Ending After 9 Years, Sony Dev Bungie to Focus on a 'New Beginning'
Is the new beginning in the room with us? Because Marathon is a clear dead end.
Re: PlayStation's Huge Days of Play Sales Begin Next Week, Reportedly No PS5 Console Discounts
If PSVR2 goes on sale in Europe I might just get it this time. Otherwise I'll just take a look at the digital game sales as usual.
Re: Subnautica 2 Is the Biggest Game Around Right Now, But When Is It Coming to PS5?
In this case I guess I share PlayStation's 'antiquated' approach to Early Access, because I don't play games until their full release.
Re: Starfield PS5 Gets Yet Another Crash-Fixing Patch, Over a Month and Two Updates Later
Release a years old videogame port, can't stop it from crashing even after several patches.
Gotta hand it to Bethesda, they manage to be very entertaining without ever needing to touch their games.

Probably for the best. Now that they've got an established successful IP to work with, Sony's money is not worth suffering their oversight.

Re: Pragmata Success Continues, Now at Two Million Copies Sold
Another success for a new single player IP. Love to see it, every single time.
I've been busy with many other games as of late, but I should be adding my purchase to the pile soon enough.
