Re: PS5 Boss Says He's Seen the Future of Gaming, and It's 'Unbelievably Positive'

Gaia093

Might as well get burger recommendations from the McDonald's CEO if we're gonna take this guy seriously.

These people don't consume the goods they peddle. It's not just that they don't engage with the specific products, it's that they have no idea what makes a good game in the first place. Their takes are absolutely worthless.

Overall I'm actually positive on games in the short term future, but certainly not because of the glorified AAA slop that Svensson is most definitely praising here.

Re: Lords of the Fallen 2's Idea of Female Armour Is Downright Embarrassing

Gaia093

These designs are not my thing, but if that's what they want to go for, okay then. It's not like the dev is claiming their "armor" is realistic.

Whether it's revealing designs like these or the exact opposite, in the end there's just people from both ends of the horseshoe doing the exact same thing: crying about things that don't appeal to them. You'll never realize you're the same because that requires a tinge of self-awareness though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 631

Mostly making progress in Soul Hackers 2 since I want to get the platinum before they remove it from Extra on the 19th. It is for sure a lower budget Atlus experience, but it's been a while since I played anything SMT and I'm honestly having fun.

On the side I'm also trying out Neverness to Everness, which is pretty entertaining in its own right.

Re: The Future Looks Bleak for Yakuza Creator's New PS5 Title Gang of Dragon

Gaia093

@Americansamurai1 Only thing current Sony is interested in supporting is doomed live service peddlers.

A single player gritty gang story is so far out of their wheelhouse it wouldn't even be on the radar. Despite how it'd do wonders for their stagnating portfolio and wouldn't lose them nearly as much money as their live service tripe even if sales were soft.

Re: PS5's Fairgames Is a Free-to-Play Extraction Shooter, and It's Not Dead Yet

Gaia093

If they want some actual feedback they'll have to do a public test, or at least a test that doesn't involve people whose only objective is to stay in Sony's good graces, such as access media.

Otherwise, they'll just get another Concord at launch, i.e. a decently made game that no one actually wants to play.

I guess the free-to-play model means they've learned something, at least?

Re: You Might Not Want to Know How Much It Reportedly Cost Bungie to Make Marathon

Gaia093

Now combine that with Tassi's other report that the game sold about 1.2 million copies and multiply that by 40 dollars. Except, Steam takes a cut between 30 and 20% from each copy and that's reportedly the game's biggest platform, so profits from base sales are significantly less than $48M.

Then factor in ongoing costs for servers as well as every employee still getting paid to keep the game going and boy oh boy, better hope those microtransactions are selling like hotcakes because this looks like a mighty flop.

Re: Opinion: Sony's 'Playerbase' Is a Weak and Weird Way to Celebrate PS5 Fans

Gaia093

I'm sure narcissists will chomp at the bit for this, certainly not for me though.

I don't need to self-insert into games, let alone actually see myself in them. If anything, whenever character creation comes up I subconsciously make characters I've nothing in common with. Happy with my life and happy to let fictional characters take the reins in fictional stories.

Re: The Last of Us Multiplayer Was 80% Complete Before Cancellation, Spent 7 Years in Development

Gaia093

How do you, as a company, work on a game for 7 years, burn millions on it, bring it up to around 80% completion, then pit it against another project and decide to just can it? It's the level of commitment of a child that got distracted by his new toy.

Then there's the very valid point people always bring up that this project didn't need to get so needlessly big. Factions II with just a tad bigger scale than the first Factions would have been a success both commercially and in terms of player reception. Gotta feature creep everything into the ground I guess.

Re: PS5 Hit Crimson Desert Might Have Divided Opinion, But It's Cracked 4 Million Sales in Two Weeks

Gaia093

@themightyant Please. Even this very article's title is calling the game divisive, and apparently I'm the one trying to make up a disparity? Games media is hellbent on making this game's reception into something it's not.

You say "plenty of fans and online gamers" didn't like the game (despite the 80%+ positive averages) then you immediately go on to deny there's a split between critic and user opinions (despite the self-evident abundance of middling critic reviews, including this site's).

That's ironic enough, but then outside of reviews there's also plenty of games media write-ups trying to put the game down and diminish its accomplishments (IGN most of all), something so blatant that ignoring it is simply disingenuous. Even this piece of news about the game reaching 4 million sales can't help but repeat several times that "not everybody liked it!" because ultimately that's what they want people to remember about it.

Re: PS5 Hit Crimson Desert Might Have Divided Opinion, But It's Cracked 4 Million Sales in Two Weeks

Gaia093

"As mentioned, Crimson Desert hasn't won over everybody"

What game has? And it's certainly won over most people not associated with games journalism, as evidenced by user reviews across the board.

Speaking of which, when Pearl Abyss' stock dropped sharply following media reviews you guys made an article with the quickness, but now that their stock has rebounded and is at an all-time historical high, there hasn't been a peep about that. Makes one wonder.
