Sony May Be 'Planning Its Entire Calendar' Around GTA 6, Says Jason Schreier 1

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, one of the best-known journalists covering video games, has made some interesting comments on the status of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Speaking on the Ringer-Verse podcast's gaming show Button Mash, Schreier is asked how confident he is in the game's current official release date of 19th November 2026, and whether it could be delayed further.

"This is a big and complicated game, and the last I heard, it was still not content complete," he says. "That is to say, people were still finishing things up, still finalising levels and missions, and seeing what's going to make it into the game."

According to Schreier and what he's heard on the grapevine, Rockstar is "still making stuff", but is hopeful that the team will be able to fully move onto fixing bugs in the remaining time before the November date. Whether the game makes the date is "really hard to say", Schreier admits.

"I don't think anyone at Rockstar could tell you with 100 per cent certainty that they will make it out in November. But I think it feels a little bit more real than Fall 2025 did — that was never real — and even more real than [May 2026] did [...] Even then I think there were people, at least that I spoke to, who were skeptical of that, and I think people feel like this might be a little bit more solid."

Schreier goes on to talk about the importance of getting the game right; with such high expectations, Rockstar has to ensure GTA 6 is as polished as can be before it launches.

"With a game like this, the stakes are so high," he says. "They really can't settle for anything less than perfection with this release, because there's so much riding on it [...] Every time this game slips, [Take Two's] shares drop 10 per cent."

He thinks, because it's so crucial for the game to have a good launch, the team "would rather slip [the launch date] than release it", suggesting there could be another delay if Rockstar thinks it's necessary.

Schreier says Take Two's fiscal year ends in March, so the game has a "buffer" to March 2027 if the publisher still wants it out within that period.

While talking about how GTA 6's release influences the schedule for basically every other game, Schreier points out the importance of GTA 6 to PlayStation.

While it's coming to Xbox as well, Schreier describes PlayStation as "the main platform" for the game, and likens it to a PlayStation exclusive — "in that, most of the sales will be on PlayStation, and it will sell a lot of PS5s alongside it."

He finishes by saying he suspects "Sony is planning its entire calendar around GTA, and will not release anything within the blast zone."

He's probably right — GTA 6 will be of huge value to Sony and PS5, and we imagine that even games like Marvel's Wolverine will aim to avoid its impact.
