Re: Sony's Zelda Movie Confirms Its Link and Zelda Actors

8thDoctor

Glad they went with unknown's, this is the type of franchise that can build careers, and I'm certain Ganondorf will be a big name to balance it out. Not sure about the Link actor, need to hear his most obnoxious "well excuse me, Princess" before I feel confident in him.

"Problematic age gap" discourse is going to haunt this movie all the way up to release, even though they're certainly not going to be a couple in this.

Re: The Last of Us Part 2's Chronological Update Out Now on PS5, PC, Lets You Play Through the Story in Linear Order

8thDoctor

I'm surprised it took them this long to implement it, this seems like it would have been an obvious value add for the Remaster. As long as it's done with care it should be a really nice way to play it. I still think Beyond's chronological order is the way to go if you want to understand the story, even if it's lazily done and doesn't account for simple stuff like tutorial placements, as it just jumps too much around Jodie's life to make much sense or events to have real impact.

Maybe not the intended and ideal way to play, but I bet this mode here will be great for Abby's character. As it's easier to enjoy what they're doing with her when the change isn't abrupt halfway through. The tv show in particular would have greatly benefited from this approach as it better suits the medium.

It's going to be another 7-Village case where Chris was playable for a little bit, but with Leon. Hope all the Racoon City leads gets a little spotlight and not just Leon.
The series kinda taking place in real time does mean that the old guard is quickly aging out of lead roles, need to build up a new class of characters to carry the next couple of decades, right now that's Grace and Rose. I guess they have the weird thing going on with Jill's aging to keep her as an open option going forward.

Re: Rumour: Sony Wants Warner Bros' Gaming Assets, Like Mortal Kombat

8thDoctor

I believe it, it's big turbulent times for WB and all the big media conglomerates will be testing the waters. That said, it's doubtful WB would be interested in another merger or buyout. This is the chunk of WBD that they expect to keep on swimming, succeed and grow, while the tv portion (left with the biggest chunk of the crippling debt) will sink and eventually sold for parts.

If anything Sony should have bought Monolith Soft from them after the shutdown, like the PUG guys did with Tango Gameworks.

Re: There's a Brutal Lack of Interest in Marathon from Hardcore PS5 Fans

8thDoctor

I bet when it releases later this year it will be as Early Access rather than a proper 1.0 release.
It's just releasing after a lot of turmoil and failures from the live-service division so whatever good faith there was early in the push is long gone. Sony cutting Concord's cord in a month rather than giving the team a chance to right the ship would also deter the doubtful from putting money forward early on. The only way Sony gives them a chance is through an Early Access release that would give them breathing room to find an audience.

Re: Konami Continues Road to Resurrection with Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill Livestream This Week

8thDoctor

MGS Collection Vol.2 announcement would be ideal here.
I hope PW, GotP, and TPP are the 3 main games in it, while Twin Snakes, GZ, Revengeance, Acid, Acid 2 and PO/+ round out the package as the nice to haves.

I'd imagine a Castlevania 3D Collection could be also announced, with Lords of Shadow trilogy, Legacy of Darkness, Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, and Judgement too. Completing the series ports into modern systems.

Re: High on Life 2 Brings Another Dose of FPS Madness to PS5 This Winter

8thDoctor

Really hope the protagonist can talk in this one, I like Rick & Morty humor, but the game forgot the fun in that show comes from the banter between characters and not just Rick monologuing for 30 minutes at a time. Your characters should vocally respond to whatever nonsense the gun and knife are saying from time to time.

Re: Microsoft Windows Classic Backyard Baseball '97 Hitting PS5 Soon

8thDoctor

It's lots of fun, but surely this would have benefited more from releasing as a Backyard Sports collection with multiple titles, maybe including the 1st from each sport.
At least Baseball and Soccer together since they don't feature real players from the major leagues, which I'm guessing is the reason on the delay for the ports of the other games.

Re: Persona 4 Remake Inevitable as Voice Actor Mentions Project

8thDoctor

I really hope they go remake the 1st 3 games after this one comes out. I'd love to play a version of P1 that doesn't force me into a fight every 3 steps in a dungeon.

@Veritas7Ax P4 is amazing, but remember the whole series has a silent protagonist. You won't be hearing much of JYB's voice outside the screaming of "Persona" and their names, just like with the P5 protag.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Dev Finished with PS5 Fighter, Moving to Next Project

8thDoctor

It really sucks when other greats like Street Fighter, Tekken and Guilty Gear are supported for much longer periods of time. This is the type of support I would expect for smaller scale titles like a new Darkstalkers, Rival Schools or Soulcalibur (SC6 got about 17 months of support!), not for one of the big 3 fighting games in the world (in sales at least).

I've had my fun and fill with the game since release, the story was meh, but the gameplay is very good and the kameo's can be fun to play with. It's not even been 20 months of full support, the seasons started looping after the 8th one ended back in November! They have been happy to nickle and dime us for klassic & new skins (outside the 3 themed ones most everyone got), giving Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Mileena a 100 of them while other characters starved. Most returning 3D era characters didn't even get a shot at a klassic skin, like Havik and Ashrah.

Re: Persona 3 Reload DLC Sales Were 'Substantial', Despite Fan Backlash

8thDoctor

Since P4G's epilogue flows into it from the main game to the point you don't even get the standard or true ending, the story just keeps going into the dungeon and new endings, I would expect removing it wholesale and selling it as DLC would be more work than it's worth. Marie is deeply involved (with your character, not the broader story) from the beginning and you got to work for the for the epilogue. I still wouldn't put it past them to do it.

Re: Here Comes a New Challenger! Street Fighter's World Warriors Invade Overwatch 2 on PS5, PS4

8thDoctor

Wish they'd remove Hanzo's sleeve tattoo for the outfit, it throws it off and it wouldn't be the first time they remove or change tattoos for different skins. Also, couldn't they make Guile's flat top higher or angle the arm so it actually looks like he's combing the hair and not air? The rest look pretty good and it's def a better result overall than previous cross-over cosplay skins.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last Of Us (HBO) Season 2 Episode 6 - Robbing the Story of Its Genius

8thDoctor

I really think the show, for the sake of not making Abby too hated (it's different being forced to control the character vs watching a tv show), should have ran Ellie and Abby's stories parallel through S02 before more or less ending on Joel's death scene. That way it creates viewers conflict into which side is right and wrong, or if Abby is even justified (given her dad was going to murder a kid after less than a day studying the immunity) by letting you sit with her and seeing her journey. I'd actually love an option to play the game that way, like how Beyond: 2 Souls eventually did.

@WhyUSoObessedWithMe while I agree Bella isn't outstanding in the role, I'd argue your grievances are more with the writers and directors than with her. It's not her fault that's the material she's been given to portray.

Re: We Were Oh So Close to Getting Soul Sacrifice 2 from Sony

8thDoctor

@PlatinumMikey I actually did, it's tedious and I got it inside the True Ending dungeon (by that point I felt certain I'd missed it), you just have to be compulsive about scanning enemies almost every fight.
I'm very bad at remembering type weaknesses so I was naturally constantly scanning the same enemies as I went from fight to fight. The only time to stop scanning enemies is when you stop to grind as you'll be focused on killing the same mobs, then scan them 1 more time after you've finished leveling up to get the "weak enemy" lines.

Re: We Were Oh So Close to Getting Soul Sacrifice 2 from Sony

8thDoctor

@PlatinumMikey No online trophies, everything you need can be done offline for both games. GR Platinum is fairly straightforward, the biggest challenge is getting Gold on the races, but it's not very hard once you get used to the awkward sliding controls (hold a finger on both bottom corners of the screen and lightly tilt the Vita to control direction). The only race I failed was for 1 of the DLC which don't count towards the Platinum.
For P4G I recommend having a couple of extra save files so you can get multiple endings in 1 run. Only the true ending gets a trophy (tied to the boss), so it's more for enjoyment.

Re: Rumours of a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Version Swirl Again

8thDoctor

The idea of using brand-new Rockstar Australia for the job seems reasonable, they joined very recently seems unlikely they got put on GTA6 duty. Having them work on making GTA4 and RDR2 playable & at their best on current gen seems ideal use of their expertise, plus you get an internal team to work on testing their engine on the NS2 waters without distracting the main dev group.

Re: We Were Oh So Close to Getting Soul Sacrifice 2 from Sony

8thDoctor

@PuppetMaster Gravity Rush also didn't do big numbers on the Vita, yet Sony saw the potential for a remaster, which led to a sequel & a movie. While I'm not sure either of them has the same broad appeal GR had (IMO GR was the best Vita exclusive), SS in particular could hit a sweet spot between the Soulsborne and MonHun communities specially with a sequel.

Re: We Were Oh So Close to Getting Soul Sacrifice 2 from Sony

8thDoctor

I adore Soul Sacrifice! The grimdark fairy tale aesthetic really popped and that the stories (main & side) were really engaging.
Its biggest issue was that the lore was at odds with the gameplay, as each monster was given a very unique "this 1 specific person became this creature" backstory that seemed at odds with the concept of repeat hunts, in a variety of different missions and settings, for parts.

Re: Even More PS5 Price Increases Being Considered by Sony

8thDoctor

The hard part about preparing and accounting for USA tariffs is that the percentage, import targets and affected countries change month to month. How do you account from China going up to 150% then back down to 30% in a month, with the possibility of it going back up in a 3 months? It's a constantly moving target

Re: Ori, No Rest for the Wicked CEO Says Studio Could Close, Then Backtracks

8thDoctor

It's an Early Access game, the time when the player base is more likely to give & change reviews as feedback on the current state of the game. This is not the time to be focusing on sales & the drop-off of them, those are 1.0 goals. Just focus on the complaints and the praise, and lock-on what needs changing, what needs adjusting and how to better highlight what works well.
