Amazon's God of War TV Adaptation to Start Filming in Six Months 1

Amazon won’t have long to find its Kratos, as filming on God of War’s TV adaptation is slated to get underway in March 2026.

That’s according to “sources” speaking with TV and comics site Nexus Point News, who claim principal photography is set to start in Vancouver next year.

Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore is on deck as the project’s showrunner, alongside a writing room that includes Matthew Graham (Electric Dreams), Stephanie Shannon (For All Mankind), Narendra K. Shankar (The Expanse), Joe Menosky (For All Mankind), Marc D. Bernardin (The Continental), and Tania Lotia (The Witcher).

Speaking with IGN earlier in the year, Moore said development of the “series is going well” and that he was “impressed […] with the breadth and the depth of the mythology that’s involved in this video game”.

He also confirmed that the show will be based on the 2018 version of God of War, so it will focus on Norse mythology and Kratos’ journey with his son Atreus to scatter his late wife’s ashes.

It sounds like casting is well underway at this point, with filming slated to start in just six months.

It’s going to be fascinating to see who lands the role of Kratos, because his sheer height and build make him literally larger than life, and previous live action attempts at the character have ended up looking like bad cosplay.

Speaking of which, it’s going to be fascinating to see how Amazon budgets this series. While there are more personal, human moments throughout the modern God of War games, it seems like an extremely expensive franchise to adapt due to the sheer amount of CG required to do it justice.
