The new DC Compacts line may not be the absolute best way to enjoy your favourite comics, but it’s an affordable and convenient one.
There’s no surprise it’s proving an enormously popular format for the publisher, then, with ten new books announced this week.
And of interest to Push Square readers is the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us edition, which originally released in 2013 and acts as a prequel to NetherRealm Studios’ first game.
Written by Tom Taylor and Brian Buccellato, with art from a variety of noteworthy illustrators, this DC Compacts Edition will cover the Year One part of the storyline, where the Joker hatches his plan to use the Scarecrow’s toxin on Superman.
Here’s the official blurb for the book:
“Superman is Earth’s Greatest Hero. But when the Man of Steel can’t protect the thing, he holds most dear, he decides to stop trying to save the world—and start ruling it. Now the Last Son of Krypton is enforcing peace on Earth by any means necessary. Only one man stands between Superman and absolute power: Batman. And the Dark Knight will use any method at his disposal to stop his former friend from reshaping the world in his shattered image.”
The 416-page book’s due to release next year, on 21st July, for $9.99. It’s perhaps worth noting that a larger format version of this compilation also released in 2016 and can be found fairly cheap if you shop around these days.
We suppose our only criticism of this book is the way it’s rehashed the original game’s box art. Sure, we reckon that was a fine cover, but some of the comic’s excellent artwork probably would have been better here.
