Re: PS5 Adds Custom GTA 6 Start-Up Screen, Sony Rebrands PS App as Pre-Orders Go Live

8thDoctor

Seeing the change on my iPad and Galaxy phone.
Kinda funny that not a single one of their own games gets this privilege, but the one game that's going sell by the truckload even if they never drop another trailer gets all this. I do get it, marketing loves spending on surefire bets that will easily recoup whatever money they put into it. But imagine if Saros or Marathon got a similar push on the app & console? Maybe it convinces a bunch more people to take notice & hopefully buy it.

Re: Valve's New Steam Machine Costs Almost Twice as Much as a PS5

8thDoctor

Damn, this is crazy expensive. Those versions without a controller are a nice gesture towards those that already bought the stand-alone controller and don't mind only having one.
AMD just released the FSR4 update for RDNA3 cards so it's at least getting a nice upscaling upgrade over PS5.

Re: Persona 4 Fans Torn Over Remake's Totally New English Voice Cast

8thDoctor

I hope Bosch is at least back for Adachi, he was such a great fit for the character. Persona dubs have historically been great, with great care going into them, so yeah the og cast will be missed a lot specially when no one is getting recast in Japanese.
That said, I think it's nice giving work to a younger generation of VAs like the OG's did 20 years ago, when Yuri, Bailey, Bosch, Mignogna, Ruff, etc weren't huge VA names and instead just the quality people you hired.

Re: Feature: This Somber Platformer, Now 15-Years-Old, Deserves a Revisit on PS5

8thDoctor

For a moment I thought this was a remaster announcement and got very excited.
Really love Madness Return, though the levels tend to outstay their welcome and the gameplay isn't anything special, the game comes together to make something that's unique. Alice 1 is also a special experience. It's clunky and looks its age, but the story and world are still so wonderfully unique. It's worth pushing through what doesn't work to experience the whole of McGee's vision, plus it comes free with Alice 2 so nothing lost giving it a chance.

Re: While You Wait for Kingdom Hearts 4, Play the Entire Saga with New Collection on PS5

8thDoctor

@GravyThief It is a really thought out naming scheme, relating to each game in the collection, to explain the numbers. For KH2.8 Final Chapter: the main game in 2.8 is Dream Drop Distance from the 3DS (hence the 3D name) which is KH 2.6 because it follows the 2.5 Remix, then the KH3 prologue has the "Birth by Sleep" name so it is 0.2 (because BBS is 0.1), and the KHX cutscenes included are 0 because no Sora. So 2.6+0.2+0= 2.8

Re: 'We Have Many More Stories to Tell with Kratos': Sony Confirms New Games with God of War's Protagonist

8thDoctor

I wouldn't mind if they move on from Kratos, Valhalla seemed to close out his story really well.
Only thing I could see is him returning to Greece to fix what he broke. I felt like Valhalla was asking if making amends and being better™️ really counts if you're doing it far away from the people you hurt, & your amends do nothing for them. Which I think is a really strong point. He's always been good and helpful to the people of the 9 Realms, only killing in self-defense. Obviously that story was never going there & I don't see how you move from Valhalla's ending to traveling to Greece without another massive time skip, which would then beg the question why Greece couldn't get better on their own after so long.

Re: Rayman Returns in a Stunning Modern Retelling of Legends on PS5

8thDoctor

It's an uglier version of Legends, with a camera tilt gimmick and some on-rails levels bolted-on between worlds. The extra world and musical stages sound great, though! It's still a very pretty game, but it cannot match the style Origins and Legends went for with UbiArt. I'm sure it's going to be a great game, because Legends is a great game.
Seems to me like all that effort should have gone to making a sequel to Legends instead. It wouldn't be the end of the world to remix stages & carry over stuff from Origins and Legends to fill up the level count in a Rayman 6.

Re: Rumour: Rayman PS5 Remake to Feature Astro Bot, Will Be Revealed at State of Play

8thDoctor

It's a whole different look, and a worse one at that. Almost as if someone grabbed Rayman Legends key-art and told a chatbot to make it 3d. The characters already had 3D models in Legends, while the world was still mostly 2D like in Origins, which makes the complete change in art direction even more senseless.

EDIT: the art being upscaled by AI would explain what happened to the poor fairy in the background. Though I don't remember them being in Legends, probably a sign that it includes the Origins levels.

Re: Leaks Suggest This Year's Call of Duty Is Modern Warfare 4

8thDoctor

@AverageGamer it's been a long time since they last tried variety. When MW4 releases 8 of the last 10 games while have been either MW or BO, with the 2 WW2 games rounding it out. It's time to try again, who knows maybe the people that grew up during the more creative phase will be more receptive to it than the older core were back then.

Re: PS5 Fans Vote Jak & Daxter As Their Most Wanted PlayStation Revival

8thDoctor

I've always thought a more horror themed Resistance game set in Russia could be interesting, but it might feel like it's aping Metro if done at this point.
Agree about Jak 2 being the worst of the main trilogy, the driving is unacceptably bad for such a major part of the game. Thankfully X and TLF are both awful, so it ranks middle of the pack in the whole series.

Re: 'There's Truth to It': Sony 'Considering' Bringing Back Your Fave Franchises on PS5

8thDoctor

  • Medievil seems obvious with a remake of #2, the team that remade #1 is still around, just get them to do it.
  • Soul Sacrifice, I've been playing Delta on my Vita recently and it's such a fantastic concept and fun to play, though the execution isn't amazing. Could do with a rethink to elevate it.
Other: Puppeteer! Remaster the game for PS5, it's a legit treasure that didn't get a proper chance to succeed.

Re: PS5 Fighter Marvel Tokon Actually Does Have Gameplay During Its 10-Hour Story

8thDoctor

AWS makes good story modes for their fighting games, though they've simplified with time I'm glad Strive's long movie isn't the new standard for them. They are mostly thick visual novels with some fights between segments, seems this is doing that again just in comic-book trappings.
I remember in BB1 you actually had to lose an early fight using Carl to reach his true ending, not super hard considering his puppet style is rather complex.

Re: Rumour: Rayman Legends Remake May Be Announced This Summer

8thDoctor

I'd guess the point is to bring back the UbiArt engine with fancier features, but basically every game made using that engine is still a stunner over a decade later so I don't think any of them really benefit from a remake. On that topic, I'd love a new Child of Light.

I hope they take the opportunity to expand the Back to Origins to include the full game, making it a proper 2-in-1, and maybe change the hubworld. Those 2 things would make it worthwhile.

Re: 'Stop Ruining the Game': Helldivers 2 in Damage Control as User Reviews Hit 'Mostly Negative'

8thDoctor

They just can't win, there's a subset of the community that wants the game to be tougher and the one represented here that wants it closer to a power fantasy, even on the toughest difficulties.

I do agree that the decision to put the new mechs behind a paywall is bad and shouldn't be rewarded. They're the one consistent thing added to the free ship store over time, rewarding both long time players and newer players, as unlike free Super Credits getting every other resource is much faster and also hard capped. It's been my long held opinion that the resource caps should be raised by a lot.
