The promising old-school Persona-like Demonschool has been delayed by more than two months, and it's all because of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Team Cherry announced the long-awaited sequel will release on 4th September 2025, and Demonschool was set to launch the day before. To avoid the release, Demonschool now comes out on 19th November.
In a press release, Ysbryd Games said that making sure Demonschool receives as much exposure and attention as possible is its main goal. "Thus, the Ysbryd team strongly believes we would not be doing our game any favors by wading into waters we can clearly see are blood red. If the September period is going to be Silksong's moment, then we need to be elsewhere on the calendar to give Demonschool its own moment to be seen and talked about meaningfully."

The studio said it had every intention of launching on 3rd September, but after "anguished consideration", it's decided to delay the release after discovering the Hollow Knight: Silksong release date on such short notice.
Other indie titles that have announced they will be delaying their release dates as a result of Hollow Knight: Silksong are Aeterna Lucis, CloverPit, and Stomp and the Sword of Miracles.
As a result of the delay, the team will use the extra time to improve the game further and make some post-launch content that it had planned, part of the base game. This includes additional endings and minigames.
Demonschool is designed to play like a more traditional Persona game, and has you "defeat big weirdos in between the human and demon worlds as Faye and her misfit companions, while navigating university life on a mysterious island".
The title will now launch for PS5, PS4 on 19th November, and the press release confirms there won't be any more delays beyond that.

Man, I'll be so glad when Silksong is out so we can all just move on.
Come on now hollow knight silksong is no grand theft auto 6 😃.Word up son
This is a bummer - Demonschool has been one of my most anticipated games for a long time. With that said, it’s a smart move. It’s also going to free up my wallet and give me time to play the numerous amount of games releasing in just days and weeks ahead.
I honestly don't see the big fuss about Hollow Knight, looking at gameplay it just looks like loads other indie games available on the store. If you're game isn't even the same genre as this then I'd say it's fine to release around the same time.
It's the indie GTA6.
@UltimateOtaku91 it's a well polished Metroidvania and it launched when steam wasn't absolutely flooded with them. Crucially, it's difficult so the toxic "git gud" crowd latched onto it and worked themselves into a froth over it.
@get2sammyb what Silksong did to you that you always have to remind us that you want to move on?
@get2sammyb at least it isn’t another endless gacha game
Well that kinda bothers me, because I've had no interest in Silksong, no offense to the game, might be a masterpiece but I haven't even played the original yet, but was actually quite excited for DemonSchool.
Maybe they're just saying that so they can polish the game more. Either way, I can wait until November.
all about ROCKBEASTS for me as far as indie games are concerned...
no interest in Silksong
Everyone wants to play Silksong so they're taking some time off lol.
Granted I'm tired of hearing about GTA6 already and that game isn't even out yet.
@Dalamar I think it's because every time there some kind of event over the last 5 years so many were demanding to see Silksong so it just got annoying to those that weren't interested in the game to begin with.
People that are wanting a Bloodborne remaster are getting like that as well.
Delayed 11 weeks because of Silksong release? Yeah, that’s BS. Just says it’s not ready.
Silksong is the new Covid.
What are the other games the title implies?
@kyleforrester87 Touche.
@AdamNovice The "Bloodbores" 😉
A game in a completely different genre delayed by over two months because of Silksong? Yeah... I kind of doubt that Silksong was the only reason.
@get2sammyb Why do y'all hate so much some great indie games?
There will be a lot of talk about this game after release and they have planned multiple dlc for the ''coming months and years''. Hollow Knight is here to stay. 😂
@playstation1995 it'll definitely have more responsive controls lol
@playstation1995 I'd say Hollow Knight Silksong is far more exciting than GTA6 could ever be.
A Persona 2-like, make that the next hit genre. The game looks great, hopefully the extra time to polish it up will work in the game's favor.
Yeah I get it. The reputation and news cycle has definitely lifted Silksong into another stratosphere of hype. It looks soooooo good and, unless it drops the ball, will almost undoubtedly be a GOTY contender for me.
@Flora2122 I don't hate it and I'm happy people are excited for it, I'm just a bit tired of hearing about it.
And personally it's not my cup of tea. Each to their own!
@SeaDaVie Not just because of Silksong, it's explained in the article that the devs are going to take this delay opportunity to add some minigames and features that they initially intended to add post-launch.
The hype over this game is so unreal to me. I played the first, almost 100% finished it and after playing dozens of metroidvania style games that have come out after it I'm so burnt out on these games. the first one did nothing especially new or special in comparison to the extremely saturated field this genre has become. Hollow knight had such samey environs due to the art style, that it got pretty boring to explore in the end.
It's a bummer Indies are worried about it but if these Indies are just another game in the same genre then I totally understand because this game is going to get so much hype and coverage simply because it's basically a meme now, that yeah those games will get lost in the shuffle.
This genre again is so saturated though that I don't think that Silk song is going to achieve the sales success that I'm sure they're hoping for. it will surely be applauded by the mainstream reviewers but yeah not so sure there isn't a lot of people very bored of this genre by now.
@Jrs1 That's good, I'm taking that lol
@Questionable_Duck That’s what they’re doing with the time, not the reason they claimed to have delayed it for.
@get2sammyb It's fine that it isn't for you and understandable that you're tired of hearing about it, but you're not exactly setting a great example with your comments. On the release date article, you asked if we can finally stop talking about it now, and here you ask that we can all move on. Like, what? The game isn't even out yet, it hasn't even started.
For an editor on this site, those are some pretty mean spirited comments about a game that means a lot to a lot of people. It's the sort of stuff I'd expect from your average entitled and complaining forum dweller, not from someone who's supposed to be better than that.
@Frmknst No, four actually!
@AdamNovice 🤣🤣
September is totally insane. I am pumped to play Silksong, but I’ll be jamming on Hell is Us, Cronos, and Silent Hill f—(good lord that’s too many games)—so I’ll probably wait for the inevitable physical release for Silksong. There’s no rush to play games, thankfully, but I often feel the pressure to support devs with day one purchases. Is that crazy? Don’t answer… 😵💫
Can’t imagine it’ll change much, first I’m hearing of the game. Doubt there’s much of a crossover audience there. The people interested in that type of game would probably pick it up no matter when it drops.
To many other games out for me to care for this one unfortunately will give it a go when free on ps plus
I think it's totally fair to get out of Silksong's way. I don't think just because Demonschool, and the others mentioned, aren't in the same genre makes it any less a good idea. Silksong has basically become this mythical unicorn since announcement, and considering that Hollow Knight has sold 15m units, it's an indie juggernaut that is bound to suck the air out of the indie scene on release.
I won't be playing it personally. Hollow Knight is excellent, but I never actually finished it. I'm hype for Demonschool, but also happy to play it later in the fall anyway.
Aeterna Lucis.. oh man I can’t wait for that one. Haven’t gotten really into a game in what feels like ages, now all these drops come right around the same time! Going to be a great fall and winter!
@get2sammyb I'm so sorry you're tired of hearing about it. A lot of us are just starting to talk about it . I haven't talked about it since it was revealed because I'm not a hype guy, but I cannot stress enough how much I'm looking forward to it. And we'll all be talking about it.
I know I'll be nose to the grindstone with Silksong, but I'm definitely getting both.
I'm so glad that neither of these games interest me at all, so delaying the release doesn't impact me whatsoever.
I'll be laughing when the mythical Silksong failed to get the ROI they wanted like it did with Hollow Knight though. Duke Nukem was a unicorn as well when it finally released, and we know how that ends.
Hot take but I think the new Shinobi game dropping this week looks better than Silk

@QiaraIris Hollow Knight has sold 15 millions copies. That's nearly as many as the Metroid franchise combined.
I realise it's cool to hate on Silksong these days but what you are saying makes no sense. Im not the biggest HK fan (thought it was decent) but there is no denying its appeal. Silksong is going to sell gangbusters.
@QiaraIris
ROI? The game is made by a 4-man indie studio(at least it was 4 people during the first game). Also, since it sold 15m copies those guys are all millionaires many times over now I would assume. They’re making the game because it’s something they want to do, and profit is likely not a primary driver.
@Jey887 That bit about how it's cool to hate on Hollow Knight nowadays is something I've noticed lately as well, and I just don't get it. Team Cherry are a tiny, 3 man indie studio. This type of success story is everything we should love about the gaming industry, regardless of whether people like the game or not. But we're actually seeing people actively wish Silksong fails.
It's that old saying: "People will forgive you for anything but success".
@TruthSpiller2025 Way to go! You threw away something you'd likely get decent money for selling, especially if some of those games were rare SMDH. 😱
Two months seems excessive. October would've honestly been perfect for a game like Demonschool.
That's unfortunate, makes it tough not only for cornering a genre but also just a iii or AAA Indie type result which is unfortunate for Indie devs.
I don't care for metroidvanias (I get them on occasion but rarely, I get city builders more then I do and I barely get those either) usually and I have no interest in Hollow Knight at all so to me I'm not missing anything but for others out there it is unfortunate for news and such till more quiets down, quite unfortunate for sure.
Was wondering when big Indies taking over too much news space/sales would happen. Not that it doesn't stop audiences from ignoring a lot of games as it is anyway. Or audiences that never cared for these bigger ones either.
That said to me Indies are just lower budget AAA, the big ones, the small ones, those that don't do a lot but differences of skill level or anything outside their experience, narrow vision/nostalgia or otherwise and the few with decent ideas are like when I get retro AAs I enjoy that get around to nowadays and love, the good ones, the rest I ignore.
@SeaDaVie The reason they delayed it is because of Silksong, but instead of pushing it back by a few weeks, they decided to take this opportunity to add some features in, as well.
