Re: Cancelled Wonder Woman PS5 Game Was 'Gorgeous and Expansive'

8thDoctor

Wild that the closed down a studio that has only ever given them hits recently, and has a promising game on the pipeline. Not to say anyone should lose their jobs here, but logic would dictate that just like Player First payed the price so would Rocksteady or WB Montréal, and not Monolith.

Re: Sony Japan Studio Closed Because AA Market 'Disappeared', Says Shu Yoshida

8thDoctor

Big sales numbers shouldn't be everything, with good marketing the smaller budget games can help mold public perception of the company's artistry, pad out calendar releases and the exclusives output. They don't even have to be original IPs, a The Last of Us or a Horizon spin-off with a simpler look and unique gameplay hook could sell well. It's literally Nintendo's playbook, put out lots of AA, remasters and remakes in between the big games to reduce droughts.

Re: PS5 Fans Are Pondering the Point of Days Gone Remastered After Graphics Comparison Emerges

8thDoctor

it's been done by Bend, so my guess is this was just a way to have the team put out something this gen, given how Sony has cancelled pretty much every project they've started since Days Gone released & whatever's next is actual ages away. Sadly, there's no new engine version to upgrade this game too, unlike Horizon 1, so we're just getting a LoU2 where it's a kinda nice to have if you haven't played it before.

Re: The Order: 1886 Dev Pitched a Sequel to Sony, But Was Denied

8thDoctor

@PuppetMaster giant budget, but if you know the game is not in a great place, it might be best to aim for a lower entry point. People are way more lenient to issues if the entry point is lower, try to get your money back by selling more units overall. Heck, I would have gotten it at launch for about $30, I payed about $20 on sale and felt very satisfied with what I got for that.

Re: The Order: 1886 Dev Pitched a Sequel to Sony, But Was Denied

8thDoctor

I enjoyed my time with it, but it really was just a somewhat interactive film. I think the team made a mistake prioritizing they got the graphics right before the gameplay was ready so of course when it came down to it it was gameplay segments that got cut down. But hey, the game is 10 years old and still a visual stunner, you could release it today with a very minor touch up and it wouldn't look out of place.

I'm always down for more werewolf media & assuming the sequel would still be a Galahad game then it's potential was high. If Sony had released it as a budget $30 title it would have been a hit.

Re: Rumour: God of War Is Taking a 'Younger' Kratos Back to Greece

8thDoctor

unless it's a remake or remakes of one of the older ones, I don't see the point. Ascension already proved without a doubt that they'd milked that era dry, and after 5 really good games I can't even complain about it.
If Sony can get their eggs in order, making a Remake trilogy like Crash and Spyro got, where the OG games are brought up to modern visual standards I'd pay for it. Given the PS3 games still look very acceptable to this day, I'd prioritize the PS2 and PSP games for remakes.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy 2, Expanded First Game Both Reportedly in the Works

8thDoctor

I really hope the sequel cuts down the open world. It's all empty fluff outside the Castle, lake and Hogsmead area, just keep that, expand on them and throw away the rest. The game works best in discreet levels, whether it's funneling you or giving you an open-ish area to work in.
Hopefully also expands on the student quest-lines, 1 per house seemed rather limited. The main story lost all steam after the first couple of hours, the random quests were boring, the House quest and the 4 students were the best of the best.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Lowers PC Requirements, Probably a Good Thing for PS5 Performance

8thDoctor

Capcom made BIG improvements, but they're still underselling the GPU's you actually need if you actually want to play at 60fps. My best guess is that it requires more than 8GB VRAM & they don't want to be explicit about it since x060 series cards are by far the most popular.
I hope they backport these engine improvements to Dragon's Dogma 2.

EDIT: I bet if you use the Ultra cards for the High settings at native 60fps is VERY achievable, then 4080/7900 & up run Ultra at 60fps just fine.

Re: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown's Reported 1.3 Million Sales Not Enough for Ubisoft

8thDoctor

For a low budget AA game, 1.3M copies should be more than enough. This is a pad the calendar between the BIG releases game, it did everything it needed to do: be a hit with the press, sell a respectable amount & build up goodwill with the audience.

It's the Astro Bot of Ubisoft's 2024 portfolio, this didn't even sell a lot less than AB (1.5M according to Wikipedia) & Sony has been parading that as a resounding success.

Re: You'll Need to Wait a Little Longer for Dead or Alive's Dating Game on PS5, PS4

8thDoctor

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black was a fun side-project for Team Ninja, very likely for younger staff to get their feet wet in the culture (which would explain the bizarre (for the team) engine choice), Ninja Gaiden 4 is a full on Platinum project, with Team Ninja supervision. So THIS is their bread & butter, big budget, in-house engine, full attention game for the year & I love that for them.

Re: Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Remasters an Action Classic, Out Now on PS5

8thDoctor

I might get this on a discount since it was my first Ninja Gaiden back in X360.

So the Sigma line gets simple ports for a reasonable price, then the Black line get remakes, likely with a Black version of NG3 to cap it off, and the story continues with a rip-off of DMC4 (complementary). Would not be surprised if the start referring to Razor's Edge as "Ninja Gaiden Sigma 3: Razor's Edge".

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Is Coming Today in Phased Release

8thDoctor

there's 3 things I want them to do with future updates (aside from themes):
1- Add PS Vita to the classic console themes, it's the only console missing!
2- controlling the console led light color would be great.
3- MOAR Stability, enough stability to place my console on a tightrope and it stay on there without support.

Re: Would You Pay $100 for GTA 6?

8thDoctor

I'm certain a lot of people would pay that price, but it would sell much less. Given the real money maker is in the Online portion, getting the game into the most hands possible is in their best long term interest, rather than trying to make a quick buck up front.

Re: Reaction: Sony's Live Service Push Has Been a Disaster of Utterly Insane Proportions

8thDoctor

The point of testing a ton of live service projects at once is making 1 or 2 of them stick, so it's enough to warrant the overwhelming losses from the rest. Well they got Helldivers 2, they got Destiny 2, they got Gran Turismo 7, soon enough Marathon and FairGame$ will have a try, add Concord and that is more than enough games possibly making you long term money even if most fail. Why put more money than that on the endeavor? It never made any sense to pivot its tried & tested studios unto these projects.

Re: A Decade Later, Director Says Shadow of the Colossus Film Still Happening

8thDoctor

I really don't think you can adapt this story into a movie, even accounting for having to reduce the colossi down to maybe 5 tops. You're never told why anything happens, the circumstances around everything going on outside the very simple plot of "save girl by killing giants" are for you to make up. That wouldn't fly on a $100+ Million dollar movie, and that's on the low end, more realistically this is likely a $200 million dollar project.

Re: This Is Why Call of Duty Is Not Gonna Stop Launching on PS5

8thDoctor

They have like a dozen studios working on CoD around the clock, with God knows how many employees per team, and that's all they make. Of course it's unfathomably expensive to make, that's why they agreed to start making Nintendo versions for the first time since the DS days and refuse to drop the last-gen versions.
It's not like Ubisoft having all their teams working on AC, FC and whatever other AAA they're currently building, but also have a contingent in the non-lead teams putting out smaller games in between so there's also some money being made while they finish the next slop.

Re: Helldivers 2 Devs Met with Instant Killzone Crossover Pricing Backlash

8thDoctor

If they wanted to test the waters with cross-over content on the rotating store, maybe using stuff from Resistance would have been better as there's not really enough there to fill a whole Warbond, just a couple of Chymera guns and maybe a skin from the armored ones. With Killzone you can do a bit of everything with the Helghast theme, from their various armors and guns to vehicle skins and victory poses, and still have space left over for a separate ISA Warbond.
