Gears of War: Reloaded is the remaster of a remaster of a game from 2006, and it shows.
A true classic of the Xbox 360 era, it defined how cover shooters played for a generation, influencing the likes of Uncharted, Mass Effect, and spawning a long list of copycats. Without it, many third-person games wouldn’t be what they are today.
However, almost 20 years later, the trendsetter is showing its age, and there’s only so much PS5 hardware can do to get it looking and running like a modern title again. While it remains an undeniable classic, it’s essential you understand what you’re getting yourself into when playing Gears of War: Reloaded.
It may not look like a shooter from 2006 anymore, but it still plays a lot like one.
The campaign shows its age the most: a roughly six-hour, completely linear quest to stop the Locust from completely wiping out the human race. As the iconic Marcus Fenix, you and a ragtag group of COG soldiers are on the offensive. Though the events of the original entry aren’t all that gripping, they laid the foundations for what has become a series spanning a further six games on Xbox consoles.

Shooting does most of the talking in the first instalment, which follows a single route through its five acts and never, ever deviates. This is the kind of linearity Mafia: The Old Country marketed itself around just a few weeks ago. Save for the rare occasion where you can pick between two different paths, the game will dictate your course through the level.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s an example of how Gears of War: Reloaded shows its age despite the new coat of paint. Very dated AI — on both your side and the enemy’s — is also an issue, as teammates casually stroll around during firefights while the Locust horde leaves cover positions at the most baffling times.
In the moment, though, Gears of War: Reloaded still offers an enjoyable single player campaign (also playable in co-op with a friend) for the year 2025. It’s incredibly straightforward and won’t leave much of a lasting impression, but you can get a sense for why it’s become one of Xbox’s biggest franchises in the games that followed. Treat it as a fun introduction to the universe before Gears of War: E-Day presumably makes its way to PS5 next year.

The shooting is solid, punchy, and satisfying, while the cover mechanic is fun to manipulate and experiment with in its original form. With the understanding this is still a campaign from 2006, you’ll find enough to like.
Whether the visuals of this PS5 remaster are included in that praise, however, is up for debate. Series developer The Coalition has put its all into supporting as many features and graphical enhancements as possible, as it ports the Epic Games work, now of Fortnite fame.
You get a 4K resolution at a rock-solid 60 frames-per-second on the base PS5, along with HDR, better lighting, textures, reflections, shadows, and the removal of load screens between missions. On a PS5 Pro, there’s PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) support as well as a 25% increase in render resolutions, even better shadows, and high-quality screen space reflections.

All the work that’s gone into bringing Gears of War: Reloaded into the modern era is appreciated, but there’s no getting away from the fact the remaster still looks like an early to mid-generation PS4 game. While it plays smoothly, the environments and assets aren’t up to par. Even on a second remaster accounting for PS5 Pro hardware, it’s far from the graphical showpiece Gears of War once was.
PS5 at least benefits from support for all the features of the DualSense controller, including the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. While their implementation is nothing groundbreaking, you’ll feel the resistance of the chainsaw-equipped Lancer and the power the single-shot blast of the Gnasher shotgun delivers.
The enhancements of the Reloaded edition carry over into multiplayer, where the frame rate can now reach 120fps. All of the 19 maps have been remastered, and the online backend has been brought into the modern generation, along with dedicated servers. These upgrades allow PS5 players to access what has been one of the most unique multiplayer offerings for generations.

Absolutely nothing else plays quite like Gears of War multiplayer. Where the shotgun is top of the pecking order, teams of four exploit the sticky cover system and destroy enemies with full-frontal gore. It’s got a high skill ceiling and will likely prove unforgiving for newcomers facing seasoned Xbox and PC players, but stick with it and you’ll discover one of the most enjoyable and intense online modes in gaming.
There’s the usual team deathmatch and objective-based modes mixed in with others that lean into the Gears of War heritage, such as a mode based entirely around the aforementioned Gnasher shotgun. It’s a multiplayer offering that offers enough for both new players and returning veterans to sink their teeth into, having understood where the meta is at and what its fanbase wants.
As a game nearly 20 years old, you’re not getting a Battle Pass to work through and a flurry of unlocks to aspire for, so the dated design of the multiplayer may actually please — it’s lacking the fluff and premium skins of modern online games. You matchmake into a game and simply get on with things.

It leaves the overall package in a place where its features and mechanics of old are both a blessing and a drawback. The campaign has its moments, but it won’t impress — particularly as a first-time PS5 player lacking any nostalgia. The multiplayer, meanwhile, lacks the window dressing of current live service titles, which lets its intense action do the talking. Gears of War is old — and it still looks quite old — but in some ways, that’s one of the best things about it.
Conclusion
One of the most iconic Xbox franchises ever lands on PS5 with somewhat of a graphical thud. On its second remaster, Gears of War: Reloaded won’t impress visually. However, with a campaign that still has something to offer despite its dated design, and an excellent multiplayer mode on top, this is a welcome introduction to the Gears of War series. 20 years later, the game that started it all is still more than worth playing.

Buzzing on booting this up this evening!
AI Another lazy way save money. I sent my copy back the French version.
Worth £9.99, not £40. I have nothing against old and linear games when done well, but as a basic kicking off point for better games in the series I would have hoped this would come as a double feature for £30. This feels like a rip off. Will wait on a heavy sale.
My favourite ever game series, finally playable for me again. The glory days of the 360 will never be topped, and I can’t wait to boot this up when I get home. Hoping Gears 2 and 3 will follow, along with E-day of course. Time to rev up that chainsaw, two piece with the gnasher and hear that sweet, sweet headshot sound again.
Yea only issue i see with the game is the trophies are a no show. Pretty sad there not even loaded to Sonys servers on launch day.
Edit: They finally posted. Time to get that platinum.
Day 1 for me! This and Silksong are going to keep me busy.
This is a wait-for-a-sale game, for me. It'll be a fun romp when the time comes, but $40 is pretty steep for a 6 hour campaign, especially when the MP doesn't interest me.
Today is all about Helldivers 2 and the Obedient Democracy Support Troopers.
I have a lot of fond memories of the original Gears trilogy, so I'll pick this up, just later down the line due to MGS Delta and Silksong out next week.
So the original version of this game has a 94% on MetaCritic. But sure, on PlayStation now with better frame rates, lighting, etc., it’s clearly a 7.
As much as I do love Gears of war I won't be dropping 40 big ones on this. I personally would have bit at £25 so I will wait for a sale.Glad to see it reviewing respectfully tho. For those Gears virgins, your in for a treat.
There is no doubt in my mind that £40 is a lot for the game, @4fold, though I think £10 is also too low. At the absolute outside, I'd say £30, but £20-£25 would probably be the right asking price.
The original rumours were that this game was going to be part of a remastered trilogy called the Marcus Fenix Collection, but I imagine that Microsoft saw an opportunity to sell the games individually at a higher price, because a complete collection would probably only have been sold for around £60-£70.
I think we will see GoW2 in about 6 months time, with 3 following 6 months after that, just in time for the release of -Day, day one here on the PlayStation...
@awp69 It's almost 20 years old! Expectations change!
@get2sammyb It’s a fantastic game regardless. And getting much better reviews elsewhere.
The same reviewer gave MGS Delta, an even older game with significant technical issues for the remaster, a 9!
Yeah, there’s a reason why I can’t rely on just reviews here.
Yeah, I love it and so excited to play it again. just hope the 7 doesn't put off people who have never played it, as it's a 9 all day long, I don't care what your 'expectations' are.
Just checked, it gets a 9/10 on purexbox too. If I expected anybody to mark it down it would be them, not push square, as it's not much different to the last time it was remastered!
@awp69 The origional came out 2006 when the graphics were cutting edge and the gameplay was fresh. In this day and age even the remaster has aged and the game does nothing genre defining. It did then but doesn't now. A 7 sounds like a fair score to me. There's no conspiracy here. After all Horizon 5 got a 9.
@Kidfunkadelic83 A lot of things about MGS Delta are outdated as well and the remaster itself has well documented technical issues and got a 9 so, sure, that seems logical.
@awp69 MGS Delta looks and plays far better than Gears of War: Reloaded does. This is basically the same game from 2006 with improved visuals, while Delta has gameplay improvements.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is also a better game than Gears of War.
another push square review to take with a pinch of salt
@LiamCroft I mean many may think so but technically speaking MGS 3 has a 91 on MetaCritic while GoW has a 94.
Honestly an 8 may even be fair but a 7? Sorry, I’ll just agree to disagree.
so you did gears of war campaign in 6 hours well done it usually takes closer to 10
and its a remaster not a remake so im not sure what you were expecting graphically.
its the best way to play a 20 year old game
I just hate how so many modern reviewers just focus on the technical side of things. performance, how it looks. it's an obsession, and digital foundry obviously the worst.
So little text given to the story, how the game plays, is it FUN or not.
Playing since last wesnesday and im kinda shocked that xbox players love this game tas much as they do. Its a good and fun game but the writing is so cringeworthy. And fenix controlls like a tank. Uncharted on ps3 was leagues ahead :/
@Cry_Zero Yes its clunky but this game wouldn't have been compared to Uncharted it would have been compared to Resistance. I enjoyed both series but I'd have to give it to Gears over the Resistance series in my opinion.
I’ll be picking this up on a sale, but it’s crazy to actually see the game on a PlayStation console. I remember getting all of the achievements for it on the Xbox 360 - yes, even all multiplayer ones, including the 10k kills - and still wanting more. I doubt I’ll go for the multiplayer trophies now, but I do love the campaign.
@awp69 😂Are you being serious right now?
A 9 on PureXbox.
Xbox Bias there for it, Xbox bias here against it?
An 8 is probably where it's at.
I'd find this really weird to play with symmetrical sticks. My muscle memory would keep distracting me.
One of the GOATs right here! This was my favorite era for shooters and Gears 1 has aged like a fine wine in my eyes. Just a stone cold classic. I always wanted Gears and Halo on PS but figured it would never happen yet here we are.
I might need to pop some champagne for the occasion! Cmon Cole Train! Let's go Locust hunting again!
@ElectricWizard No bias whatsoever. I review what's put in front of me.
Gears of War is that Xbox game that I was interested in the most. I would love to get this though I'll probably do it during a sale.
ngl, this made me want to try out Halo as well and when the franchise does come out on PS (I think it's only a matter of time), I'll be picking them up as well.
I was looking forward to trying these out for the first time, but I pre-ordered the game to play the beta and hated every second of it.
It felt really dated and had no redeeming qualities. Maybe the campaign is better but the multiplayer was awful.
'a roughly six-hour, completely linear quest'
.... if only more games were made like this these days rather than the over-stuffed, open-world junk mechanics that no-one needs or asked for - we might have more games to play!
I would pay $40 for the trilogy but I feel £40 for one game is a bit too much, for me perosnally.
@awp69 Metacritic is not something to put a lot of stock in. It's just a weighted average and reviews are opinions. Liam thinks that MGS3 is a better game than GoW and I tend to agree, but it doesn't mean that someone else's opinion isn't valid. Just because you disagree doesn't mean that Liam is wrong, nor does it mean you are.
I don't think I'll ever be as impressed with game graphics as when a friend first showed me this game on his 360. The jump from the PS2 and PC games that I was used to was overwhelming at the time, but I don't see that happening again to the same degree.
Honestly I would have problem differentiating most new games from 5 year old games these days. And that's... fine. I value other aspects of games more nowadays than back then.
@wildcat_kickz It's amazing that so many people cannot conprehend that fact...
So no gyro aiming support? I guess it doesn't benefit from ALL the features the Dualsense controller has to offer then? I'll have to use my Steam Deck OLED to force the game to support gyro.
The Gears of War franchise holds a special place in my heart. These games were a technical showpiece on the 360 back in its heyday. Almost 20 years later, it's hard to believe Gears of War is available on PlayStation, and it will look and run better on my Pro compared to the Xbox version.
Even though I have a digital copy of Reloaded free on my Series X (since I own Gears Ultimate Edition) I had to order a physical copy for PS5. I'm excited to jump back into the campaign and maybe dabble, with a little bit of online multiplayer. My copy will be arriving today!
@awp69 well if you can't see that MGS delta, despite its issues has had a complete graphical overhaul and looks way better than Gears then I really don't know what to say to you. Don't get me wrong, the original Gears is one of my favorite games but it's still looks dated for today's standard.
@awp69 It’s not a 94 on Metacritic, it’s an 80(PS5) and 65(PC)
@SeaDaVie I’m talking about when Gears of War came out in 2006. 94 on Xbox 360. 87 on PC.
Never played it as never owned an Xbox but it looks like a Resistance rip-off. Wish they'd remaster and reissue that trilogy now that's a remake I could get behind!
As much as I love gears of war I think £40 is a bit much. Maybe when it drops to £20-£25 i will bite but not yet. 7/10 is more than a fair score for a game that's not aged that well. I was hoping that they would have remade it from the ground up but alas its not the case.
@awp69 Yeah, and I used to be 21 and slim
@Jammer eh? It came out before resistance..
@Kidfunkadelic83 Graphics aren’t everything and everyone has an opinion. I just think a 7 is way too low. So as I said before I’ll agree to disagree
For a 6 hour campaign and lazy remaster for the price I'd say 7 is reasonable.
@Jammer by 5 days lol..gears released on the 7/11/06 and resistance fall of man released on the 11/11/06...
@awp69 I'm not saying your wrong and to be fair playing the campaign in co op would be a 9 for me, after all I will also be buying Gears once it hits a price I believed it to be worth in 2025. £30 will be the sweet spot for me. Enjoy.
Ill play it on my not so trusty xbox360.(had to buy 5 of this ***** because rrod)
@reddevilcat it'll be a mini review..
65 metacritic on PC 😬
It really feels like more games sould have been included in this package. Even if it was just the latest PC versions ported over without a full remaster treatment.
@Jammer Resistance Collection with all 3 PS3 games, the PSP and even the kinda trash Vita one would be sweet.
I enjoyed that series. I could NOT believe how much I liked part 3 with the Move controllers! Once I dialed in their sensitivity and settings for my tv and distance to it, it was AWESOME.
@awp69 you shouldn't be relying on reviews from just one outlet anyway, whether you agree with a review or not.
@Markatron84 Yep. 100%
Haven't finished my Xbox 360 version, (I've been happily collecting 360 physical discs for my recently acquired xbox360..got hundreds now ..I am interested in playing it on the os5, with modern graphics though..hopefully its not reconfigured for the fabled 'modern audience) , will wait for reviews
I played this when it originally came out and enjoyed it well enough at the time. Its big, dumb fun and hard not to glean enjoyment out of.
...but lets be honest, the only reason it stood out at the time was because Epic figured out how to do a WH40K space marine simulator before anyone else did - a USP that evaporated almost soon as they'd claimed it thanks to everyone borrowing from, and improving upon the formula they laid down.
Gears of War really is a product of its time and while you'd still be hardpressed to have a bad time with it, apart from nostalgia, there's really no point forking over the current asking price unless you have a fetish for crouching behind concrete barriers whilst getting shot at and derivative military science fiction.
Find it funny Amazon Australia has a guide for the game already, and the cover art is AI slop LOL
@PrioryChat I agree but it should be priced accordingly. Its a quality game at €30.
Still haven't been convinced to buy an xbox game yet.
Why do people care about reviews? Yall got no taste or common sense? Its a personal taste. Dont like it, play another game!
I've never understood the appeal of GoW - very brown, players control like tanks, bullet sponge enemies.
@reddevilcat Oh i didnt know quality is the same as populair? There are so many terrible populair games.
Also people saying it has to be a 9 back in the day maybe. A classic is indeed still a awsome game but with the time standards change.
Good contender for the "wait for sale" list.
The gameplay is just too simplistic for 2025 to earn higher than an 8 (Metacritic overall) or too pay €40
@Jammer this game is leagues ahead of Resistance - i played both on release and the first Resistance FOM is utter ***** in comparison. And this was out way earlier
@reddevilcat Not every game ages that fantastic.its not that its a bad game also a is not good enough for this. A 8 is a great grade its that they give a 9 and 10 way to easy .
I owned an Xbox 1 for about 6 months in 2017 and played this, and it was OK. Then I played 2 and 3 and realized this really was just a setup game for the other 2. Much like I'd never play Uncharted again, thought it was trash, unless I was playing the rest right after b/c U2 is my favorite interactive movie, I wouldn't play GoW w/o having 2 and 3 ready to go. A complete trilogy bundle or $70, the current going market rate, would be OK, but $40 just for 1 seems a tad much.
I played this back on the 360 when it first launched. It looked good, but I wasn't that impressed with the campaign back then.
Gears of War is a product of it's time. Edgy, bold and a mindless good fun. Those who aren't nostalgic to the series might find it less appealing.
Regarding the price, a fair comparison might be The Last of Us Part 1, which initially released during the same console generation and also received 2 remasters. Unlike Gears of War, The Last of Us Part 1 doesn't include the multiplayer mode from the original release and is being sold at $70, where GOW is $40. Which one is the better deal?
Wish sony had more respect to old games like Microsoft does
@reddevilcat 100%. It’s the Push Effect. If Gears or Forza Horizon 5 were Sony first party they would be higher scores.
FH5 is a generational game imo.
For context, I had the first ever PlayStation and every console since.
@Blauwe_Chimay says a person who has posted on a comment section of a review.
Reviews are there to help inform players/buyers about what they are getting for their money.
It ain’t looking too hot for this game right now, was really looking forward to getting it on PC. either way, gears of war is still a legendary franchise & it’s not for everyone.
@Cry_Zero the writing can’t be any worse than any modern sony IP.
Gears of war always look interesting. So yeah definitely a game to play. Word up son
MS could charge 70$ for it. It’s their IP and a new PS game. Besides many on PS haven’t even played it. People will always complain about the price of a game even if it was free because micro-transactions are in it. These games were great to me in the X360 era! If only MS didn’t fumble the Xbox one we wouldn’t be here.
@Bsb56 Uncharted Collection, The Last of Us Remastered, if you want to make direct comparisons to Halo and Gears.
The fact this is just a shade under 20 years old makes me feel ancient.
Why did they not release the whole trilogy? I loved the first 3 games (never bothered to much with the multiplayer) but 40 quid for the first game is really pushing it and I don't normally complain about the price of games.
Also I couldn't see anywhere if you can coop online? Pretty big omission if not as the game is 10x the fun with another player but even single is a blast, then again I understand most people will not pay this much for 6 hours of linear gameplay. On another note I actually finished this game on insane in single player back in the olden days, pretty tough cookie.
@MrPeanutbutterz last of us came out without the most played feature by me the multiplayer
@MrPeanutbutterz Haha, tell me about it. I was 21 and now I'm not 🤣
I have no desire to play this game again. I’m very glad it’s available for those who never got to dabble, but I can’t deal with the no-neck muscle head characters anymore. Just rubs me the wrong way in this day and age.
Wake me up when we get the Halo lot!
@x3King84
You spend money, I spend money, they spend money. Different tastes. Some people love cod other people love bf. Some love soulslike other people hate it! Play what you like.
@awp69 That's not how it works. GoW1 is excellent yes but in 2025 its aged a fair bit and no longer that 94% game especially when nearly every sequel to it greatly improved things.
@reddevilcat Its 65 on PC on MC so i guess those PC reviewers are PS fanboys right?
Love how every ms game on the ps store is rated nearly 5 star regardless if it’s worth it or not
@Stale-Bread
Probably for the same reason why Sony hasn't released a trilogy of Killzone, Resistance, God of War or Motorstorm on PS5. It's not that easy to update those old games for the new hardware.
In case of Gears of War Reloaded, this is a re-release of the 2015 released "Gears of War Ultimate Edition" which was a remaster for Xbox One where the developers migrated the game from Unreal Engine version 3 to version 4. Gears of War 2 and 3 would have required a lot more effort than this project, as those 2 games have not been upgraded to UE4.
With all the trouble Microsoft faced with the initial release of the Halo Master Chief Collection, and the effort it took to fix it, maybe they decided, it's safer to release this as a single game.
I bet it will go on sale in a few months. The thing is, compared to the remake of The Last of Us Part 1 which costs $70 and doesn't have the original game's multiplayer mode, Gears of War Reloaded is fairly moderately priced at $40 with the inclusion of the multiplayer mode. Also owners of the Ultimate Edition got a free digital copy on other systems.
"split-screen or online co-op". It's mentioned in the description on the store page: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP6312-PPSA17525_00-0219247498273183
@Ashina wait for the sale, it may have been genre changing at the time but we have had far far better since then
@Artois2 yeah , like gears of war 2 and 3
@awp69 “I’m talking about when Gears of War came out in 2006. 94 on Xbox 360. 87 on PC.”
then there you go, those were the score then. Times change as does expectation
@TrollOfWar That's pretty awesome regarding the online play, feel an idiot for not bothering to look that up 🤦🏻
As for the info on why they didn't release the trilogy I had no idea they migrated it. It's really just a personal peeve because the gunplay was refined as they went on along with more enemy types and some pretty awesome locations, I'd love to play through them again one after another and while I think 40 is steep for one I would however pay a full 70 for all 3 especially as you'd get horde mode as well. Ill probably get this on a price drop because I was just flat out terrible at multiplayer. It will be interesting for new players though because of I'm remembering correctly you can kill your own teammates. The good old days of some nob on your side taking it down for the opposite team 🤣
@reddevilcat if halo is just a straight port then I doubt it would get a 7
@TrollOfWar last of us
@x3King84 no way is fh5 a generational game. Absolutely no chance whe fh3 and fh4 were better games than it
@nomither6 I don’t know I played and enjoyed gow5 but my god the dialogue was cheesy and tried way to hard at being funny
@reddevilcat if that’s the case then I hope it would get more than a 7 then. But this game isn’t a remake or rewotsyacallit. It is just a remaster so what was a high score when it was originally released is no longer the case
@nomither6 well yeah…… to name a couple
@reddevilcat and? Clearly reviews that aren't giving it the score you want is bothering you for some reason so surely those 4 PC reviews should be bothering the hell out of you right? Maybe instead of moaning over review scores from a random PS based website how about just play the game and enjoy yourself.
An amazing game when first released on the Xbox360 creating a definitive moment for the Xbox’s greatest console the xbox360, along with other amazing games.
Never to be repeated by Xbox in that same way, such a shame.
7 seems about the right score for a game that his hidden behind old gameplay structure and old AI enemies and unreal 3 engine updated of course.
No let’s get on with the new gears e day and move forward.
This generation slowly becoming the remaster generation.
@4fold what are you complaining?!? Be grateful, that you are allowed to play this Xbox classic gem on your Sony console.
@Stale-Bread All good. It's easy to overlook certain things.
When The Coalition took over the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games, their first project was to migrate Gears of War 1 to UE4 for Xbox One to become familiar with the games and the Unreal Engine. Two years later they released Gears of War 4.
A full complete trilogy would definitely be a great offer, but I guess this is better than nothing and if it helps to get additional Gears of War games and get the game series into the hands of more players then I am OK with this.
Yes, the multiplayer can be quite frantic. I'm also personally more of a fan of the horde mode but I also had a few decent PVP matches.
@reddevilcat oldgamer999 put it a lot better than I did
its so weird to me to pop in gears of war and seeing the xbox game studios logo pop up on the ps5, i loved this game on the 360 , so i'm excited to give this a go on ps5. the fact it has cross save i can play it on xbox as well.
@DTfearTheBEARD btw when you unlock trophies if your accounts are connected for cross play and cross save , it also unlocks the achievements as well on xbox.
Perhaps I missed the comment but I remember this being the first AAA game I bought where I thought it was incredibly short for the money. I remember about 6 hours and I am notoriously slow.
Would not pay £40 for a 6 hour remake. No chance.
It's funny how this site is full of bitter comments and opinions when it comes to games that are not from Sony.
@Shrek_Realista not from me the first gears was one of my favorite games back then , and it would have totally blew my mind if i knew i'd be playing it on a sony console many years later.
this really should have been a 2-for-1 pack with a new GOW2 remaster & called the "Maria Collection".
@reddevilcat "Gears of War was pioneering for it's cover mechanics"
Gears wasn't the one who pioneer cover mechanic. There was multiple games who had the mechanic long before Gears like Time Crisis, Winback, MGS 2 and Kill Switch. Gears only helped with the mechanic popularity.
@Nintendo4Sonic
lol, I played it (I hope) before you were even born. What do I care what I can play it on now? There is nothing added, so it’s not worth £40. They could have put more effort in or charged a lower price. Unfortunately they didn’t.
@reddevilcat naughty dog was pretty open saying that the gears of war cover system inspired them to add it to the first uncharted game.
@reddevilcat From "pioneer cover mechanic" to "pioneer rapid transitional cover mechanics" is two different thing sir. Just say it you're wrong and never played those games, don't need to move your goal post.
Also. Kill Switch has fast cover to cover mechanics. And MGS 2 isn't the "clunkiest" of stealth games.
I really need other 2 games' remasters too! Why the heck MC is so stubborn to leave them behind!?
Also 7 feel unfair but I will check my thoughts when I finish it.
@Scottyy don't forget they are also working on gears eday , which is rumored to be day of release for ps5, so i'm sure they'll be going fully into that now that reloaded is out , hopefully the remaster of 2+3 would be after .
I like linear games. I'm sick of everything being open world. I'm not bothered by the AI. Back then it was extremely rare to have good AI. F.E.A.R. and MGS2 in particular were standouts for pioneering a new level of enemy intelligence.
@reddevilcat I guess it's hard to swallow the cold hard truth that your beloved series didn't pioneer the cover mechanic.
And Gears 1 didn't advance much of the cover mechanic either. Blind fire, pop out from cover to fire and quickly goes back to cover, and vault over cover already been done before Gears 1. The only thing Gears 1 added was moving from cover to cover with one button, which wasn't a significant advance to the cover mechanic.
Sadly the western media lauded Gears like it's a pioneer for every TPS games and mechanics. So i'm not gonna fully blame people like you who accepted that misinformation and ignored the games who came out with cover mechanics before Gears.
@PuppetMaster Gears might not have invented it but it made it popular, all those 3rd person action games with a cover system that came after Gears and dominated that gen were because of Gears not because of games that came before. Its like saying cinematic universes are only "popular" because of the 1930's Universal Horror films and not because of the MCU. Its like saying Halo done nothing that Alien Resurrection didn't do. Yeah Gears didn't invent cover shooters but again it did make the idea super popular.
I don't understand the need comments. A game is worth what it's worth, I think the price point is fair for what it is. And it's a lot of fun. I've only done a few multiplayer matches but something I've noticed is that the game doesn't seem 2007 grey and brown anymore - it looks a lot brighter with more colour, and it looks fantastic. Has anyone noticed this or an I crazy? The only thing I can actually point to is the foliage seems to add a lot of pop (with the green etc) but there's gotta be more to it
@awp69 some games gameplay age worse than others. Gears of War - which I love and have completed many times - does feel pretty dated when you play it now, quite clunky, gameplay has evolved. Whereas the last time I played MGS3 while it had also aged in some respects, it also felt quite fresh in other ways as it’s so unique. Delta also reportedly has a lot of gameplay and QoL tweaks whereas this is mostly just a graphical remaster. Ultimately it’s just opinions.
I think the review sums up my feelings. There is no nostalgia for me and it looks a bit meh, but gameplay does appeal (I like cover shooters). Does the disc have the full game on it or is it just a download code?
Watched a streamer play this last night, never been so bored in my life
I'll pass
@Bsb56 I said The Last of Us Remastered, which did have multiplayer. In fact, it had more maps than the base PS3 game.
@Stale-Bread I too was once 21 (somewhere in between the first two Halo games, sheesh!), but no longer am 🙈
Played the first 30 mins last night. Looks fantastic on my OLED tv, plays super smooth, and was having lots of FUN, which nobody seems to care about now, just how much it costs , how long the campaign takes, or nit-picking graphics. I give up on gamers today.
Would like to play this; I have pre-loved 2 euro copies of all the 360 games with the intention of buying an Xbox one day. Never happened!
Will wait for a big discount to play this; I waited this long, I can wait a little more
@Dimey I hear ya.
@Stale-Bread I have to apologize. I was wrong saying that Gears of War Ultimate Edition (and this new Reloaded release) are in Unreal Engine 4. According to Digital Foundry it's a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3. That is actually quite impressive given how old that engine is.
I think Digital Foundry's review video is worth a watch as it highlights the improvements between the 2015 Ultimate Edition and the original 2006 release: https://youtu.be/N8jBoIvToZY
@twitchtvpat
As long as we finally get to play those. I really want to play them chronologically. That's why I haven't touched 4&5 yet.
Had this on 360 and downloaded it yesterday.
Wadda great game !
Amazing game, always will be, still better than most of the ***** today. No ***** open world, crafting weapons. Just an amazing LINEAR experience from start to finish. The PS3/ 360 era was fantastic for these 3rd person shooters. Unfortunately the LINEAR experience is frowned upon today. Not every gamer wants to spend 40+ Hours on some padded out game.
@UltimateOtaku91
The game has a lot of problems on PC
@awp69 the original was 94% of 20 years ago but standards have moved on. It's still a great, fun game, but there's issues: clunky movement and camera, unreliable cover system, bullet sponge enemies, short campaign, boring online (IMO at least). It performs well and still looks fairly decent; I'm having fun playing it on Xbox via Gamepass currently, but I wouldn't double dip on PS5 for anything above £25.
MGS3 is another recent re-release of a masterpiece. It has aged much better and the fps drops a handful of reviews mention won't be noticed by 99% of gamers anyway.
I still would prefer not to pay full price for what is essentially a game I played decades ago however. I'd rather save the cash for Borderlands 4 next month.
@RPGamer94 most new releases these days have problems on PC it seems!
