Re: Don't Hold Your Breath for Bethesda's Starfield on PS5, PS4

vict0RGM

When Starfield was announced it was a big question mark for me. Now it is a quiet smaller one. I believed Starfield could be Bethesda's Star Wars or Dune.. some kind of space opera. But, based on those leaked images, I think they went to a very different direction.

Regarding the Xbox exclusivity talks, I think they should first present the game and make people want to play it before saying that it will only run on Xbox and PC or else they would only be hurting the game, really.

Re: PlayStation Home Trademark Renewal Has Fans Dreaming

vict0RGM

It sounds awesome, but it would suffer from the same shortcoming that Dreams suffer: the incapacity for creators to monetize their work.
Solve that and Sony will see these type of games/services go to the next level.
It can't be that hard. The benefits far outweigh the costs.

Re: Beloved Star Wars RPG Knights of the Old Republic Really Is Getting a Remake, Reports Say

vict0RGM

I believe that a combat mechanics inspired on Final Fantasy XV (without all the flying and flashes, off course) would be a very good fit for a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I remember FF XV combat being very fluid and pleasant, perfect balancing action and strategy during battles. I don't feel the same way toward FF VII Remake's combat thought, it draws heavily from the turn-based mechanics and I fear it would make the gameplay feel clunky.

Re: Square Enix Categorically Denies Possible Acquisition Rumours

vict0RGM

I could make a laundry list of things that I wish Sony would do before buying Square Enix. From where I see things Sony aren´t even being able to proper manage the studios they already have.

We were here, just a couple of days ago, talking about the financial difficulties and how hard it is for SIE to invest in the development of new games. That SIE used the profit of the last big title to develop the next. Now we are evaluating if Sony should or should not buy a whole studio like Square Enix?

I think the "era" of acquisitions is over (or ending) and now people are much more interested in knowing what the big gaming companies are creating to offer us. June is coming and I have a feeling it will be a important one for the gaming industry.

Re: Talking Point: What's Next for Cyberpunk 2077, and the State of the Game on PS5, PS4

vict0RGM

I really hope CDPR can pull out the come back that Hello Games managed to do with No Man's Sky. Although I don't know how given the very different nature of the games (one is a open ended exploratory sandbox and the other is a single player, story focused immersive sim).
What I do know is that the only chance Cyberpunk 2077 have for a comeback is CDPR creating a 'Blood and Wine'-grade Expansion for it (after fixing the game, off course).
Regarding the longevity of Cyberpunk 2077 I think it would be something like what Bethesda have been doing with Skyrim and less (or nothing) like Rockstar aproach to GTA V Online. The problem is that Skyrim achieve a state of grace among fans, while Cyberpunk 2077 achieved the opposite. Again, the quality of the game next Expansion will be the way to give CDPR a second chance to change how the game is perceived among fans, in my opinion.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't Think Sony's Obsession with PS5 Blockbusters Aligns with Reality

vict0RGM

I am sorry but I think I missed something. When did the discussion turned to questioning if SIE have been investing in new IPs or not? That was never in doubt. PlayStation excels in that department. The way I see things SIE's problem is the exact opposite, they have more IPs they can properly manage (new and old).
It is understandable that this juggling between IPs and studios that SIE have been doing makes the fans apprehensive. Specially because we can't actually see them do it. I hope that when the curtains open, SIE doesn't drop the ball.

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Losing Ground to Xbox?

vict0RGM

This is what is happening: both Sony and Microsoft are holding their cards close to the chest and are slowly showing them to the audience. What ails Sony is two things:
1 - Maybe Microsoft is doing a better job presenting their cards.
2 - There is a strong probability that Microsoft's cards are better.
Also, while Sony is very publicly shutting down game studios, I believe Microsoft is quietly consolidating theirs.
And I must say.. Phil Spencer looks like a much more charismatic guy than Jin Ryan. Every time Jin shows up he seems to be apologizing about something and everytime I see Phil he is always with a big smile and bright eyes telling us how nice things are in the Xbox side. I don't know if Phil is right, but I can't say he is wrong either.

Re: Returnal Gets New PS5 Gameplay Footage in Another Housemarque Dev Diary

vict0RGM

I believe this game will bring to the table a good kind of different. The difficulty curve will be the factor that will make or break the game. People associate difficulty with the roguelike genre, but I don't feel it will work very well with this game as it may break player engagement or even alienate the PS5 consumer base. We shall see, I can be wrong off course.

Re: Reaction: Why Did PlayStation Buy Evo?

vict0RGM

Actually, esports are the second most amazing thing that video-games made possible, after single-player history focused games, in my opinion.
Another move by Sony that have huge potential, like the Crunchyroll deal. I am still waiting though when Sony will connect the dots and develop new products based on those moves.
Until then, how about Sony make Street Fighter V the next PS Plus free game to celebrate that deal, hum?

Re: Reaction: What Next for PlayStation?

vict0RGM

Congratulations. Very well written and informative article. But how do you know that Microsoft isn't already "up to speed"? Remember that things seem to move slowly when you are looking from a distance. Sony should be careful to not be caught by surprise (again). I think loosing windows of opportunities is a luxury that SIE doesn't have anymore.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima Creators Made Ambassadors of the Actual Island

vict0RGM

Amazing. Ghost of Tsushima +Legends is like the game that keeps on giving (both in gameplay and in the news). I have a pipe dream of a sequel for that game where you can play with both Jin Sakai and Tomoe in a similar fashion to GTA V, where you can switch between characters in a open world. Each having their own sets of missions+personal stories and getting together for larger world missions that advances the game story. It would be like a spiritual sucessor of Tenchu 2.

Re: State of Play Livestream Confirmed for Thursday, Focuses on 10 PS5, PS4 Games

vict0RGM

Returnal seems ripe for a deep dive. Althought I don´t know what is really left to show, people already have a pretty good idea of what the game have to ofter (it looks really interesting imo, by the way). Ratchet & Clank, as always, is another strong candidate to show up in the presentation. I will be keeping a close eye for frame drops in that one. Resident Evil Village may show up, but it is hard to image anything that would surpass its last awesome showcase. New game announcements is one thing that makes it a bit unpredictable. Hum... Hades for PS4, maybe?
What I want to see? More about Horizon Forbidden West.

Re: PlayStation Boss Reiterates Strong Ties with Japanese Developers

vict0RGM

I think the PlayStation platform needs a new Okami-like game. It may not be a remake/remaster or a sequel to Okami (although it would be amazing) but a new game with the same spirit. It is the closest thing to The Legend of Zelda that PlayStation ever got.
The japanese studios should treat their video game franchises with more love. It is common knowledge that they are their most valuable assets.

Re: New Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Game Reportedly Real

vict0RGM

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is probably the trickiest game in existence to make a sequel/reboot/etc. for reasons like:
1 - The combat mechanics are obsolete.
2 - There are 2 games, plus an MMO in the franchise filled with lore that is non-canon.
3 - The most interesting part of the game is Revan´s journey and it is very well told in the original game, so I think it doesn´t make sense to make a reboot to re-tell that story.
4 - It is very hard to figure out the timelapse between the original game+sequels and a new game.
5 - The fanbase is very loyal but sparse and maybe hard to reach.
6 - In a new game, will the player play as Revan or as another character?
7 - If the player plays as another character, how to make it as interesting and relevant as Revan?

If I were the one making the game I probably would throw away everything made after the original game (sequel, MMO, etc.) and summarise its storyline at the beginning of the game in a Star Wars opening crawl like format or in the game prolog (making it canon) and go from there. Also, they should do what every sequel refused to do: Creating and delivering a dignified ending for Revan's journey.

Re: Final Fantasy XVI Producer Thinks Ghost of Tsushima Was the Most Impressive Game of 2020

vict0RGM

I understand that some people loved The Last of Us: Part II. But it is not my cup of tea. For me, Ghost of Tsushima was most definitely the best game of 2020. It is also a game with huge potential for a expanded universe. See Ghost of Tsushima: Legends for example. On top of that it re-introduced feudal Japan as a theme worthy for development of commercial successful triple-A games. It is one of the games with the biggest potential for a amazing PS5 sequel, a brand new franchise made from scratch. It could be like the Iron Man movie from Marvel. I really hope they don´t abandon Jin Sakai as a character for the sequel, I believe that would be a great mistake from Sucker Punch.

Re: Bloodborne, Demon's Souls PS5 Producer Leaves Sony Japan Studio

vict0RGM

@NEStalgia It is very interesting to think about what the term "Sony games" brings to mind and how it changed from first steps of the company in the gaming industry until now. I would absolutely love to watch a video from the YouTube channel 'Ahoy' exploring this theme.
Clearly the games have become more and more "occidental" and less and less "oriental" over the time.

Re: Bloodborne, Demon's Souls PS5 Producer Leaves Sony Japan Studio

vict0RGM

That is unsettling news.
I do feel that direction at PlayStation is not fostering nor working the brand presence at the japanese gaming market (consumers and also developers) the way it would suppose to do.
It is sad because Japan is filled with iconic franchises both in the gaming and in the entertainment business.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Microsoft start closing some big moves at that region. They have precedent, money and the appetite.. people will not get to say "oh boy, we didn't see that coming!" like when they acquired ZeniMax Media.
