Kotor is a kind of game that would be extremely hard to make a remake for even if everything went well. But what we see is things getting worse worse. They should develop and release it like FFVII Remake – in three parts. Just release Taris and Dantooine for the first part, and than see where it goes from there.
Believe it or not, I once wrote, for some reason, a Lengthy document proposing a open world game intermixed with soulslike dungeons (like Elden Ring) western RPG in the Castlevania universe.
It was a bit after Microsoft acquired Bethesda and the declarations that the next Elder Scrolls will be a Xbox exclusive, when the big video game companies was in that acquisition spree time. Everybody was arguing what company Sony should buy next. I would make the case that Konami should have been the one, as a game like that done by a Playstation studio would be a worthy competitor against Elder Scrolls VI.
It would be set in a time period a little after Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and would feature a revamped Dual Set-Up System (the card system of the game) adapted for a 3d action-adventure game. It was quite cool actually.
The Freelancer mode announcement was what motivated me to purchase the complete Hitman Trilogy. It looks very interesting in this video and it is great to have a deeper look into it.
I would suggest, to expand this new mode even more, a side game where you are tasked to retrieve rare and precious objects from the levels before you leave, like for example a famous chef knife, a Imperial Filigree Egg, gold bars, a rare wine, etc. Then you could sell them for a collector for Merces or store them on a gallery at your safehouse. Hitman have in its lore The Yardbirds (a group of international thieves) that could even be used here.
There is a real chance that this Japan based Assassin's Creed announced and the sequel for Ghost of Tsushima could be launched close together. Can you imagine the debates that this would sprawl? Could be fun lol.
I never had much faith in Aspyr as the developer for this KOTOR remake. Switching to Saber Interactive would be a improvement. I don't know if it will solve the problems, though.
Regardless of the developer, creating a KOTOR remake would be a extremely complicated challenge. It is a kind of project that if you don't get it right on the concept stage the whole thing will eventually fall a part.
It would also be a extremely laborious task. One could easily develop an entire game just with Taris as setting, the initial part of original game. And then there is still Dantooine, Tatooine, Korriban, and more. Maybe the best way to go would be to do what Square Enix did with FF7 Remake, and release the Kotor remake in 2 or even 3 games.
<<Kotor spoilers a head>> Maybe the way I would go would be: The first part released featuring the Endar Spire, Taris, Dantooine and Yavin Station (which would have a bigger role). Finishing with the discovery of the Star Map. The second part featuring Tatooine, Manaan and Korriban, ending with the first battle against Malak. And the third part featuring Kashyyyk, Lehon, the Star Forge and the end of the game.
Could be cool, it is way to earlier to say anything really. But I must say that after Thor: Love and Thunder and the Ms Marvel series my interest in Marvel is in its lowest point ever since the beginning of the MCU. Maybe we are now heading to a time where anything Marvel related will be either a hit or a miss and get over with it.
I hope they improve the combat mechanics in GTA 6. Loved the single player mode in GTA 5 mainly because of the narrative and the mix between story driven missions and open world/sandbox exploration of Los Santos, but I didn't spend much time on the online mode because I didn't find the combat fun. I didn't like the combat in RDR2 either and didn't even finish the game, unfortunately. On the other hand of that are the Just Cause games. The story is the silliest thing, but the combat, both in vehicles and on foot gunplay, is so fun that it kept me going on until the end of the 3 and 4 Just Cause games.
I did not know the new map is going to be free. That is great. Although, I must say that it was the Freelance mode that made me dive head first in the new Hitman trilogy.
At the end of the last decade and the beginning of the current one (202X) the video game industry was enjoying great success by exploring the power of hyping games. We had great events and flashy game reveals. On the top of that there was the excitement for the reveal of the next-gen consoles and all the amazing games that will come with them. The apex of this hyping epoch was the stream for the PlayStation 5 reveal (June 11, 2020). By the way, I am not saying 'hype' with a judgemental or critical tone, I loved to live that time and I loved that the industry was enjoying a amazing period.
This period had come to an end with the release of Cyberpunk 2077 though, one of the most hyped games of all time and that had a disastrous launch. The disbelief caused by the Cyberpunk 2077 launch revoked from the industry that driving force of hype. And then came the effects of the covid pandemics, as a second wave. Production chains was disrupted making getting a new gen console a painful ordeal, and painful ordeals is not a good tone for a entertainment based industry. The developing of new games was also affected making reveals and releases sparser. Those factors and others made the industry lose its luster. Yes, life is tougher and this is also a important factor, it is hard to spend a good time playing video game if people are worried about how the next day or month will be and if their well being is not good.
But the beauty of video game, which seems to be forgotten, is that it is not only a industry but also a form of art, and as an art it should be able to read and feel the times that we are living and offer experiences that are able to give us new perspectives and revitalize our spirits. Take for example the new Top Gun movie, it gave us fresh perspectives and reached an enourmous success. The video game industry needs something like what Top Gun made for movies in 2022.
And I think the video game industry should dare to hype games again, take pride in their work, release games that are ground breaking and that we can feel as something really new and different. CD Projekt Red would do the industry a huge favor if they manage to fix Cyberpunk 2077. They should stop fuc***ing around and get this thing done and delivered. Third person camera with good character animation! Multiplayer/online mode! An expansion that make Night City a living thing and the star of the show, as it should have always be! Go full blown GTA Online and you will be glad that you did.
Starfield also have the potential to be something special. Bethesda should work very hard to deliver it! The PlayStation Studios should also work hard to deliver us something special. Bluepoint! Housemarque! Sucker Punch! They should make us all excited for their next projects and they can't drop the ball on them! I think the game industry can turn this bad tide around in 2023. But they must be bold and go all in.
If true, I think they made the right decision to focus on GTA 6. Loved the story mode in GTA 5 and I expect they will also deliver a good one in GTA6. Rockstar should know that it would ruin the online part of the game if they don't get the single player part of it right.
The sense of scale in those hunting games is always something that catches my eye in comparison with other games. When you see a mountain in those games, it "is actually" a mountain, unlike a mountain in Skyrim, where you can bunny hop to the top of it.
Nice trailer. She looks good. I am not 100% sure that the Avengers game had poor results just because of its end game mode. I loved Guardians of the Galaxy and I would not mind if it had some kind of content to play after you finish the game. Maybe something similar of the Battle Grid and Combat Challenges in Jedi Fallen Order. Although I admit the combat system is not the best aspect of Guardians of the Galaxy.
I would like to see a game where you play as both Jin Sakai and Tomoe. They could implement a system similar to GTA V, where you can change between the two characters seamless in the open world and you could even meet the other character while playing as one of them. I also wish they have a couple of big villages/cities with a lot of people and business in the map.
The fact that Dreams is now to the closest thing Sony/Playstation have for a metaverse product shows how far it is from having a viable product based on that concept. It will have to take many steps before we can see something like that running on a PlayStation. And I think a lot of those steps they will not be willing to take. Like: allowing external creators to monetize their creations inside the metaverse product and having a account where they can receive money, implementing a easy way for they to transfer their creations created on PC (in Unreal Engine for example) to the metaverse product and making it available there. It would be something not that different from the Google Play Store - but existing inside a virtual world.
I wonder if playing and enjoying a good single player game will be seen by the new generations of gamers the same way we see our parents and grandparents enjoying reading a book. That thought made me a bit sad.
@Ralizah I like your perspective comparing the momentum of the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 5 at launch. The lack of PS5s at people's houses itself is a bigger problem that many people realize. It is like a species population in a ecosystem, if it have problems increasing in size it will soon find itself in a real danger. The situation is so drastic that I could even imagine extreme measures being brought up — like routing new batches of PS5 to specific locations with high demand (and completely fulfilling it) to assure the "survival of the species". Let's hope it doesn't get to this point.
I would imagine that it is very weird for the US citzens this situation of having the money in your pocket, but not having the product in the store. 'Stock issue' is all I hear they saying. It have other names, you know.
Before the pandemic, we used to think that the video game industry was all set to live a new golden age. It was like all the stars was aligning, with the new console generation on the horizon and all. But the reality now is that the industry is struggling and facing many problems. I hope that the major players realize the situation, find a middle ground where they can join forces and work together to address those problems, without, off course building upon the features and values that made the users adopt each platform.
It's hard for me to understand the reason why some here seem to be celebrating this. For me, it is a sign that the video game industry is becoming less vibrant then it once was. Major players should be mindful of this and act to reverse this trend.
@Ben7982 I also have reservations about how the combat will play out in the game, but I did see a roll at yesterday presentation. Hopefully by now, after so many sequels of hits released by From Software (Elden Ring being the most recent), every game developer understand the importance of a good character positioning system during combat, instead of just smashing the attack button.
It is good that the game is single player focused, but I hope it will have online capabilities like Hitman. It could serve to create great features for this title. Also, a multiplayer spin-off mode like Ghost of Tsushima Legends could be fun to play. Anyway, if they get the open world single player aspect of the game right, people will naturally ask for it and play it if available. And this is the correct way to aproach game development in my view.
@sikthvash A collectible card game based on the Elden Ring lore would actually make an awful lot of sense. If only for a way to expose the whole lore and characters of the game in a more.. ahn.. digestible way. Why let the youtubers have all the profits, eh?
I like Harry Potter/the Wizarding World and I think it is a amazing fantasy world, but I don't think the franchise is easily translated into video game format (specially a Triple-A game). I said it once and I will it say again: CDPR really should invest on implementing a way to allow us to play the game in third person view. AND this concept will be so game changing that the first expansion for the Cyberpunk 2077 can very well be all based on it.
