Donut County, at that price, is an absolute steal. It’s such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. The soundtrack is so memorable that I bought it on vinyl!
I’ve got a PSVR, I’ve got Sony’s gold headset. 3D audio just doesn’t “work” for me. I’ll stand by a steady sound source, say a water fountain, and I’ll turn my character around. I’ll hear it going left to right and getting quieter when it’s in “front” or “back” but I can never tell which is which. I’ll close my eyes and try to determine it, and I’ve got nothing.
They should have skipped the “deep dive” and waited for the full reveal. People wanted a reveal. Even though this was in no way marketed as a reveal, people on the internet are... people on the internet.
Seems like the new Xbox is a bulked up version of what’s come before. That’s fine. But if Sony wants to really wow people, it’s got to be something more than that. It can’t be iterative, it’s got to be revolutionary in at least some way.
I’m sure they look at the lifespan of an exclusive and decide where the cutoff is—where does it stop driving system sales? At that point it makes sense, from a business perspective, to add to the potential player base and make additional money off of existing games.
I’m honestly fine with this. The games are still exclusive for a couple of years, and I’m sure they’ll have some franchises that stay firmly within the PS family of consoles.
@Col_McCafferty When trophies were announced/introduced I scoffed at them. I'd been playing games since the Atari 2600 days and never needed trophies to feel like I was getting the most out of my games.
And then I heard that first ding. Since then, I've alternated between being a trophy hunter and... being able to actually just enjoy the games. Lately I've been on an "enjoy the games" kick and I've got to say, I hope it lasts for the rest of my days. I'm finally playing Doom (2016) and if I were going for the trophies, I wouldn't be enjoying the game nearly as much as I am just blasting my way through it. It's nice when the games serve my needs, and not the other way around.
I was going to say I'll wait for PS5 confirmation before jumping to conclusions--they were late on the PS4 Pro update for the Witcher compared to XBoxX One XxXtreme.
Then I thought... yeah, I'm just going to wait for the PS5 version at that point. What if by the time the PS5 version comes out, I'm already through the game?
@gbanas92 I purchased Among the Sleep despite the reviews, feeling that for me, personally, I could overlook the game’s shortcomings and just enjoy it for what it was. Then, about an hour or two into the game, my character sunk into the floor. I could see the entirety of the map from below but of course couldn’t interact with anything. I mean, we’ve all had this exact scenario happen in numerous games. Even in AAA titles. But by this point I’d already realized I just wasn’t having fun, and so I quit out and never went back in.
I hope the team is able to stick to it, and that their next game can live up to their wonderful ideas.
This is a proper bummer. Not the game looked like it was going to compete with the heavies, but I’m always on the lookout for more walking sims with fantastic stories. Looks like the search continues!
Question, what was the last walking sim that was truly special? Edith Finch came out in 2017. It’s my favorite modern genre and I’m worried that narrative games might be falling by the wayside again.
@wiiware And it should be either a free upgrade, or $5 or something at most. If it's not, they're going to tick off a lot of people. I do think that with first party and exclusive games, that'll be the case. Sony has said they want to make the transition as smooth as possible from one gen to the next. Here's hoping! Free upgrades would be the best route for all.
I'll be keeping an eye on this one. If the worst bugs get ironed out via patches, I might take the plunge. It looks like it'll scratch a very specific itch.
Nice. 10/10 will purchase when on sale. Not that the game isn’t worth full price, I just know it’ll take me six months to get around to it with my backlog being what it is.
I recently broke down and got the Spyro trilogy on sale. The Crash games haven’t gone low enough for me to purchase it yet.
If this is true, it’ll be the first free game I’ve genuinely been interested in and don’t already have purchased but haven’t played yet, in longer than I care to remember. Here’s hoping.
I was putting money aside to preorder this and was about to pull the trigger when the delay was announced. Now I’m not going to preorder it as the PS5 is potentially out the next month. I don’t see myself investing in a PS4 game a month before the next gen comes out. If they’d said all along that it would have a PS5 patch or something, this wouldn’t be an issue. But because they’re sticking to their PS4-only guns right now? I’ve lost interest in purchasing the game at this time. When they release a PS5 patch/version, I’ll pick the game up then. Possibly at a discount.
@Its_badW0lf I used to feel that way, but the. I realized that companies are always going to make as much money as they can, and it’s silly not to read a book because we don’t like the cover. It’s not the stories’ fault.
I got the action one with the armor dude. Probably my least favorite, behind the sneaker. I wish we could choose, or at least had access to all of them.
Of course I didn’t have access to any at all as their site was broken yesterday. Haven’t yet checked today.

Is it weird that I’m actually really happy with both of these?

Re: Mini Review: Moving Out - PS4 Couch Co-Op at Its Most Literal
$30 for a game like this is crazy! It definitely looks (and apparently, reviews) like a $15 game. When it drops to $8 on sale, I’ll snatch it up.
Re: Lake Is a Lovely, Laid-Back PS4 Indie All About Delivering Mail

Ahh that’s a shame. Their first game was such a let down compared to its potential—I was hoping they’d hit their mark with this one.

Good on em. I’m interested in this game but a slew of bad reviews due to technical issues won’t help them any.

My wife loves those flipping shows. She lit up when I showed her this trailer. If we can have fun gaming together I’m always for it

Sony’s betting on the wrong horse here. Godfall looks like a generic, forgettable PS4 game.

Haven't they already talked about how they had to scale back how destruct-able the world was because of current gen hardware?
They're releasing the game a month or so before the new hardware lands. All of this could have been avoided.
