Re: PS5's 3D Audio Could Quietly Be a Game Changer

glassmusic

I’ve got a PSVR, I’ve got Sony’s gold headset. 3D audio just doesn’t “work” for me. I’ll stand by a steady sound source, say a water fountain, and I’ll turn my character around. I’ll hear it going left to right and getting quieter when it’s in “front” or “back” but I can never tell which is which. I’ll close my eyes and try to determine it, and I’ve got nothing.

Re: PS5 Is 'The Most Exciting Hardware in 20 Years'

Seems like the new Xbox is a bulked up version of what’s come before. That’s fine. But if Sony wants to really wow people, it’s got to be something more than that. It can’t be iterative, it’s got to be revolutionary in at least some way.

Re: Not Every PS4 Exclusive Guaranteed for PC Release, Says PlayStation Boss

I’m sure they look at the lifespan of an exclusive and decide where the cutoff is—where does it stop driving system sales? At that point it makes sense, from a business perspective, to add to the potential player base and make additional money off of existing games.

I’m honestly fine with this. The games are still exclusive for a couple of years, and I’m sure they’ll have some franchises that stay firmly within the PS family of consoles.

Re: PlayStation Player Celebration Participants Grab Free PS4 Theme After Reaching First Goal

@Col_McCafferty When trophies were announced/introduced I scoffed at them. I'd been playing games since the Atari 2600 days and never needed trophies to feel like I was getting the most out of my games.

And then I heard that first ding. Since then, I've alternated between being a trophy hunter and... being able to actually just enjoy the games. Lately I've been on an "enjoy the games" kick and I've got to say, I hope it lasts for the rest of my days. I'm finally playing Doom (2016) and if I were going for the trophies, I wouldn't be enjoying the game nearly as much as I am just blasting my way through it. It's nice when the games serve my needs, and not the other way around.

Re: Mini Review: Mosaic - An Intriguing Experience That Can't Stick the Landing

@gbanas92 I purchased Among the Sleep despite the reviews, feeling that for me, personally, I could overlook the game’s shortcomings and just enjoy it for what it was. Then, about an hour or two into the game, my character sunk into the floor. I could see the entirety of the map from below but of course couldn’t interact with anything. I mean, we’ve all had this exact scenario happen in numerous games. Even in AAA titles. But by this point I’d already realized I just wasn’t having fun, and so I quit out and never went back in.

I hope the team is able to stick to it, and that their next game can live up to their wonderful ideas.

Re: Mini Review: Draugen - This Walking Simulator Takes a Fatal Tumble

glassmusic

This is a proper bummer. Not the game looked like it was going to compete with the heavies, but I’m always on the lookout for more walking sims with fantastic stories. Looks like the search continues!

Question, what was the last walking sim that was truly special? Edith Finch came out in 2017. It’s my favorite modern genre and I’m worried that narrative games might be falling by the wayside again.

Re: Dreams on PS5 the 'Obvious Next Step', Says Media Molecule's Mark Healey

@wiiware And it should be either a free upgrade, or $5 or something at most. If it's not, they're going to tick off a lot of people. I do think that with first party and exclusive games, that'll be the case. Sony has said they want to make the transition as smooth as possible from one gen to the next. Here's hoping! Free upgrades would be the best route for all.

Re: Rumour: PS Plus February 2020 PS4 Game Outed By PlayStation Spain

I recently broke down and got the Spyro trilogy on sale. The Crash games haven’t gone low enough for me to purchase it yet.

If this is true, it’ll be the first free game I’ve genuinely been interested in and don’t already have purchased but haven’t played yet, in longer than I care to remember. Here’s hoping.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5? Dev Says 'Nothing Has Changed' Following Lengthy Delay

glassmusic

I was putting money aside to preorder this and was about to pull the trigger when the delay was announced. Now I’m not going to preorder it as the PS5 is potentially out the next month. I don’t see myself investing in a PS4 game a month before the next gen comes out. If they’d said all along that it would have a PS5 patch or something, this wouldn’t be an issue. But because they’re sticking to their PS4-only guns right now? I’ve lost interest in purchasing the game at this time. When they release a PS5 patch/version, I’ll pick the game up then. Possibly at a discount.
